Hmm [^o)] Need More Speedtraps in Bay Area on Hwy 101

I think speedtraps are a good thing, we need more of them. Someone has to patrol the crazy highways and catch the speeders. Speed kills, but since there is no Driver Education program in the schools anymore, the teen drivers are probably not aware of this until it is too late. I am surprised there are not more speed-related deaths here in the Bay Area of California, specifically on Hwy 101 between San Francisco and San Jose. In fact, I hardly ever see the Highway Patrol on this freeway, given the amount of cars that travel this busy road. (Well, I have to give them credit for something - they do show up if there is an accident.) The speed limit is 65mph, but in all honesty, 80mph is the "new 65mph" here in CA, and I guarantee you will see MANY people driving way over 75mph on 101. If CA made $1 for each mph over 75mph that drivers JUST on Hwy 101 between SF and San Jose violated, this State would probably not have a budget deficit! I recently took a road trip on 101 South to San Luis Obispo, and and over a 3 day period, I saw more CHP patrolling the section of Highway 101 between Salinas and San Luis Obispo than I have seen on Highway 101 in the Bay Area for the past several years! That makes alot of sense, huh?

     Speeding doesn't kill....inattention does.

It is probably just a waste of resources to argue this here so I'll keep it brief.

@craigdh: If that were true, don't you think the death rate / accident rate would be higher on the German autobahns instead of the US freeways?
