The artist responsible for this sign advertising the services of Alameda Auto Lab appears to have had an interesting perspective on both human anatomy and vehicle design.

...you spot a Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe in front of you in the McDonald's drive-through. Also, the driver's ordering from the value meal menu. Oh, and it's not Britney Spears behind the wheel. [ TopSpeed ]

While the tilt-shift photographic technique is a lot of fun , you can't beat the infinite depth-of-field you get with a good ol' pinhole camera when it comes to distorting so-called reality! Here's a shot of my weathered '70 Impala model parked next to an avocado, done on a homemade pinhole camera. Actually, this image is half of a stereo pair from a homemade 3D pinhole camera.

The diminutive car-mad folks at MINI have a "Word of the Day" desktop widget just to keep the little Cooper-crazed folks out there happy. Today's word? "Farking Spot." Since it's explained above, we're not going to regurgitate them here, but suffice it to say, we've all been there. Especially here in NYC. All we've got to say is "$%&! Smart cars!" [ MINI ]

Some SUV buyers tend to feel that they're captaining the dreadnoughts of the road, impervious to all harm and thus free to futz with cupholders and electronic gadgetry rather than pay attention to traffic signals. In this incident in Texas- which, fortunately, did not result in any major injuries- a Chevy Tahoe was T-boned by a Mini Cooper and flipped right over. LeMons Neon racer and Enzo rejuvenator Matt Groner sends us these photos and a description of the wreck written by his friend, who was behind the wheel of the Mini: These pictures were taken by one of the firemen who were called to the scene, with his camera phone. The officials who responded to the accident could not believe that the Mini (and I) sustained so little damage. The other vehicle involved is a Chevy Tahoe. I was driving south on a one-way street and the other driver was driving west, also on a one-way street. The other driver ran a red light (that had been red for a long time) and appeared in the intersection just...

Reminding us of the massive Lincoln Continental and tiny MG Midget spotted parked next to each other, this time the stark contrast in size comes to us from our friend Mike Levine of PickupTrucks.com . He spotted this mighty Silverado 2500 HD with a pocket-sized Bantam pickup...in the Chevy's bed! The only thing that could possibly make this any better would be the pair strapped on the back of a flat-bed tow-truck, which in turn would be on the back of a flat-bed semi-truck. But this duo is fascinating enough. [More at: PickupTrucks.com ]

The AMC Pacer looks crazy from any angle; as we saw in the DOTS '76 Pacer , it's pretty much impossible to tell if you're getting lens distortion when you photograph- regardless of angle- due to its weird bulbous appearance. Jean-Charles, the French distributor for the Pacer, figured the best approach was to demonstrate how not all big round objects look bad. Image source: Wikipedia

I love found photos, and this yard-sale score is right up there on my all-time favorites list with the police evidence Polaroids that came with my ex-cop Crown Victoria. The sun-scorched sandy desert yard suggests that the location is somewhere in California's High Desert region, which means that it doesn't take a law-enforcement mastermind to guess the origins of the house fire in the background. The question is: what kind of car is that full-sized Detroit machine? I think it has the look of an early-70s Chrysler product, maybe a Fury… but the GM paint shop was a big fan of that shade of Bilirubin Brown back then, so maybe it's an Olds or Buick? What do you think, dear readers?

I went out to get some of the excellent Pumpkin Curry at the King Of Thai Noodle restaurant in Alameda, and noticed a Phuket Beer ad on the wall suggesting one way of beating high gas prices: instead of driving, swill large quantities of beer!

This silent Super-8 film of the 1968 Monaco Grand Prix is the perfect time warp to watch in contrast to the dazzling spectacle of the recent Singapore Grand Prix . The raw footage of the then-savage sport captures the essence of what a street-circuit F1 race was 40 years ago. For better or for worse, things have certainly changed. Film below the jump.
