The 2009 Roush P-51B Mustang, an aviation-themed screamer of a pony, is the newest custom to emerge from the secretive skunkworks of Jack Roush's Detroit shop. Only 51 of these bad lads will be tearing up the streets with their 510 HP and matching torque thanks to a bounty of tasty engine goods and a BFS (Big Fookin' Supercharger). The whole lot has been tweaked and tugged, including sinister black chrome wheels, a Juggernaut-approved braking system and a slathering of Olive Drab accents. More about the gritty technical specs below. galleryPost('p51mustang3', 3, '2009 ROUSH P-51B'); The powerplant of this titan only visually resembles the stock three-valve found in the Mustang GT. This mill holds a completely forged rotating assembly, including new pistons, H-beam connecting rods and crankshaft. A new clutch and an ECM specifically tailored to this combination keeps everything in control and transmitting torque to the pavement. Six-piston brakes bring the whole thing...

In addition to the Raptor pickup , Ford will be unveiling its latest purpose-built drag racer, the 2008 Mustang Cobra Jet. The Cobra Jet, also known as the FR500CJ, is an attempt by the Dearborn, MI-based automaker to expand its offerings of racing pony cars. The Cobra Jet gets a beefed up 5.4-liter V8 with a cold air intake, A/C delete, 9-inch rear end, a six speed manual or three speed auto, a roll hoop and a specialized suspension. While no horsepower figure is given yet, Ford is calling it a car any drag racer can get in and immediately be able to compete with ten second cars. Not too bad for a factory racer, sounds like it'll do the Cobra Jet name justice. Details in the press release below. galleryPost('cobrajetsema', 6, 'Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Ready To Run Quarters'); COBRA JET THE LATEST ADDITION TO THE MUSTANG FR500 SERIES OF RACE CARS FROM FORD RACING DEARBORN, Mich, Nov. 4, 2008 – With the addition of the 2008 Cobra Jet Mustang, Ford Racing will have once...

Working with Ford and Funkmaster Flex (no relation), Grammy-winner Nelly laid out a design for his own custom Ford Flex crossover; the finished result will be revealed to the artist today at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. Apparently Nelly was enthusiastic about the Flex from his first look, saying "Yo, that’s hot! How can I get one of those?" Never one to miss a PR opportunity, Ford offered to customize a Flex for the "premiere stuntastic stuntman" under the watchful eye of Funkmaster, himself a custom Flex owner. All we have so far is one photo and a press release below the jump, but Nelly's Flex will come to you as soon as we get our eyes on it, so try to contain yourselves. “NELLY” FLEX UNVEILED AT SEMA SHOW Nelly's Customized 2009 Ford Flex to be Unveiled at SEMA Show LAS VEGAS, Nev., Nov. 4, 2008 – Grammy Award-winning artist Nelly will see his brand new customized 2009 Ford Flex for the first time today when the vehicle is unveiled on the Ford stand at the...

The pictures are tiny, but Ford is apparently bringing quite a load of customs to the SEMA show in Vegas next week. There's a trio of Lincoln MKS's on the way, a couple of Foci and custom Escapes, a sinister looking Lincoln MKX, and our favorite, a tarted up Ford Transit Connect. Seriously, that thing can't hit the market soon enough; we'll take one with a set of those snazzy racing stripes too. Full details on all these customs in a healthy-sized press release below, and be sure to check out Jalopnik's on-the-ground SEMA coverage next week. galleryPost('semafords', 9, 'SEMA Taken Over By Custom Fords'); LINCOLN MKS, FORD FOCUS STAND OUT AT SEMA DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 31, 2008 – With its sleek design and strong wheel base, the all-new 2009 Lincoln MKS is opening doors in the aftermarket for customization enthusiasts looking for a full-size sedan to make their own. To demonstrate the personalization potential of Lincoln’s new flagship sedan, Ford will shine...

Good news for 2003 through 2009 Ford Mustang owners that don't want to throw down $21,000 on a complete Roush Stage 3 kit: The suspension alone is now available separately for just $1,449, meaning it's now affordable to make your 'Stang handle. The complete kit is a direct replacement for the spongy stock suspension, lowers the car 1", and includes springs, dampers, jounce bumpers and anti-roll bars. Full details follow the jump. galleryPost('roushstage3mustang', 4, 'Mustang Stage 3'); ROUSH® STAGE 3™ SUSPENSION AVAILABLE TO ALL MUSTANG OWNERS WHO WANT TO PULL Gs LIVONIA, Mich. Through me is the way into woeful repair bills; through me is the way to PBR; through me is the way among the mulleted people. Insanity moved my lofty maker: the divine welder, the supreme junkyard scavenger and the primal wielder of roof spoilers. Before me were a Jetta and a Ranger created, joined together through fortunate folly, and I, the Jettachero, eternal last. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here. For folks who want a high-po old-school ride with a minimum of effort, Roush will now sell you one of their crate engines matched to an aftermarket performance transmission — and they'll do all the fine-tuning and dial in for you. You'll need to be a Blue Oval fan in order to take advantage of the aptly-named "Ford in a Ford" program, but we're pretty sure this is exactly what your old Mustang needs. Or at least one of us does . Look for the first application, a 511SRFE engine in a 1963 Galaxie, to debut at the Goodguys PPG Nats in Columbus, OH this weekend. Full release after the jump. ROUSH(R) NOW OFFERING COMPLETE CRATE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION PACKAGES FOR SEAMLESS INSTALLATION LIVONIA, Mich. (July 7, 2008) - Street rod enthusiasts and car builders have traditionally had their share of issues mating the transmission to the engine in a project car; either one or the other would install smoothly, but rarely both would work in tandem without a lot of additional...

When Gone in Sixty Seconds came out in 2000, the Mustang which held the lead role as " Eleanor " became an overnight sensation. You couldn't throw dead blow hammer without hearing someone compare a car to Eleanor. The brutish fastback was just the right mix of vintage and modern. In that vein, the Obsidian SG-1 is a car as modern as anything on the road, but maintaining a throwback look. Originally a puke green '67 fastback, the SG-1 (which does not travel through wormholes to faraway planets) is now a study in excess. galleryPost('obsidian', 6, 'Obsidian SG1, Starring Richard Dean Anderson'); We're not too sure about everything that goes around the engine and drive train, but nobody is going to argue with the guns this car is packing. A stroked SVO 351W V8 good for 392 cubic inches, two, count 'em, two Rotrex superchargers feeding two air-to-air intercoolers and firing up for over 830 HP and 770 lb.ft. of torque. That monster drives a Tremec 5...

We know you're a little down about the cost of gas these days, we are too. Indications are that todays $110 a barrel oil will only be getting more expensive. So what are we to do? Well, this isn't the first time gas was crazy expensive (shush you Europeans, you brought that on your socialist selves), and C&D did something cool that seems just as appropriate today as it was back then. Okay, so maybe that $11 worth of aero modifications was in 1974, so it's closer to the equivalent of $48 now, but still, the simple modifications they did gave amazing results. No brainer type stuff like switching to radial tires from bias ply, building headlight covers to improve the airflow around the front, a big chin spoiler to reduce drag under the car and other types of tricks netted an impressive effect of 25% mileage gained. The whole thing was done very scientifically and all the details with charts and such are over at Ecomodder . Wonder how some of those would work on the old premium...

newVideoPlayer("festiva_burnout.flv", 463, 387,""); Everyone seemed to like the Ford Festiva powered by a rear mounted Chevy V8 driving the front wheels. So here's the video. As expected, it features such knockout classics as front wheel reverse donuts and the ever- popular chocked wheel burnout till tire explosion . Just to spice things up, cabin smoke choking driver is thrown in for fun. We like this video, even if it's just a bunch of hoons in a backyard acting the fool in a Festiva, which alternately sounds like a tractor and a funny car.

Most sane people who would consider swapping a V8 into Ford Festiva (an admittedly small subset) would make the switch to rear wheel drive. If you're going to do all that work, you might as well make it right wheel drive. One would also imagine such a swap would stay in the family, a Ford engine for a Ford Car, GM for GM, and so on. Well, Cardomain.com member Theon Parseghian decided against both of those things when he built his widowmaker, the appropriately named Lost Innocence . Powered with a 355ci Chevy V8, with the cogs being turned inside a TH-350 running a BMW front axle, we're pretty sure the little red bomber will do some seriously stupid things. Front wheel donuts in reverse comes to mind immediately, but how about torque steering across multiple lanes of traffic? That could be fun, right? galleryPost('v8festiva1', 6, 'A Study In Subjective Reasoning');

Ford's SEMAfication continues, with a set of contract customs focusing on the company's trucks, SUVs and crossovers. It's just the latest example of the marketing juggernaut the massive Las Vegas aftermarket products show has become. Ford's latest include tuner-tart F-150s from ATS Design, K Daddyz Kustoms and its own Ford Vehicle Personalization team, a Lincoln MKX by Barry's Speed Shop, an Escape from FMS, and Edge from MRT-direct and a Lincoln Navigator L from DeBerti. The main event, at least for those left cold by mix-and-match catalog jobs, involves a 1951 F-Series (rendering above) created for the Make-A-Wish foundation. We'll be there, wearing one of those fruit hats like Carmen Miranda. galleryPost('fordsemacrossovers', 4, 'Ford's Custom Crossovers and SUVs for SEMA'); Press Release: FORD CROSSOVERS AIM TO FUEL UNPRECEDENTED GROWTH WITH VEHICLE PERSONALIZATION DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 19 - Ford is blowing the doors off the competition in crossover sales growth this year, with a 52...
