newVideoPlayer("/71_Chrysler_Royal_476.flv", 506, 423,""); The Newport Royal was priced a couple hundred bucks lower than the regular Newport; it came with less gingerbread and a 360 instead of the 383 engine, but was otherwise the same car. See, that's to get you hooked on Chryslers; the guy who buys the Royal now will go on to buy a Corboba a few years later, and by now he's in a Cirrus. Just like eating peanuts!

newVideoPlayer("71_Toyota_Crown_JDM_476.flv", 506, 423,""); The old Toyota Crown was all about the luxury , and it's pretty clear from this classic ad who the Crown's target market was back in 1971 Japan: stoic businessmen who wished to take their giggly young mistresses to the beach. We're disappointed that the Crown in this ad lacks the Super Saloon's curtains and trunk-mounted Cool Box, but you can see that it wafts along in utter silence. Well, except for the caterwauling of the schmaltzy singer.

newVideoPlayer("71_Charger_Topper_476.flv", 463, 387,""); A certain 60s movie and a certain 70s TV show have ensured that the 1968-70 Chargers will always overshadow all the others. But what about the '71-74 Charger? The 1973 model was the best-selling Charger , and in 1971 you could get whitewalls, hubcaps... and the landau vinyl roof - at no extra charge!

An automatic transmission! Hubcaps! All standard! Yes, it's no wonder the jowly small-town police chief assumes his officer has been taking bribes from the local Dodge dealer, no doubt in exchange for overlooking various legal indiscretions. And what better car for a key party than a Swinger ?

We've always liked the Pontiac T-37, the Car Formerly Known As The Tempest. Not as flashy and obvious as its more expensive (and heavier) GTO sibling, the T-37 could be ordered with (or upgraded to) any Pontiac engine in the General's option list. Here we see Pontiac trying to woo the kinda-now-kinda-wow younger crowd into a hardtop T-37, GT-37, or Firebird Esprit for 1971 . Four-speeds for all, please!
