newVideoPlayer("/TankTaxiCrush_gawker.flv", 506, 423,""); Though we're not sure why this M1 Abrams tank had to crush this lowly Iraqi cab twice, we do know that it's a lot of fun to watch (and we suspect that may have had something to do with it). And before anyone gets upset about us losing the hearts and minds of Iraqi cab drivers, we'd point out that the little cab appears to be riddled with bullet holes meaning that it was either involved in an attack or in the wrong place at the wrong time. Either way, the car would have to be removed and we applaud the tank commander for pre-compacting it for any Iraqi clean-up crews (and for shooting and uploading video of it). USA! USA! USA! After Uday's Lamborghini got blown up, you might think that all the interesting cars were gone from Baghdad by now, with just Ford Probes remaining to hold the gearhead banner over the ancient city. An accounting office from DoD was sent in to 'inventory' these and I was invited along as a resident gear head. They were reported to us by an...

Saddam Hussein's son Uday used to confiscate any cool car that caught his eye on the streets of Baghdad, so in those days it was best to drive the Kadett and leave the BMW stashed away. Those days are gone, but new dangers lurk for the brave Iraqi who wants to customize his ride. The LA Times has a story on three young Iraqis who have done their best under the circumstances; yes, we might cringe in horror at the sight of a pimped-out M3 or a Mustang convertible with a huge TURBO emblem on the hood, were we to run across such cars here in the US of A, but — given the context of 2008 Baghdad — we can't help but admire the determination these guys are showing.
