newVideoPlayer("/ConceptGT.flv", 506, 423,""); We had a chance this morning to be one of the first to drive the GTbyCITROEN Concept on Gran Turismo 5: Prologue at the Paris Auto Show . The car, easily the hottest concept here at the show, was designed as a joint venture between Citroen and Polyphony Digital, the makers of Gran Turismo. We'll gladly admit we are not virtuosos of GT5, as we should be, but once we figured out what everything did, it was off to the races. By our uncalibrated estimates, the GTbyCITROEN has a tendency to oversteer more than we expected, but it is fast, and it'll handle high speeds pretty well. Oh, and after we took a look inside the concept, we were interested to see that dash provides a sweet heads-up unit displaying current velocity. We totally need to get a PS3. galleryPost('gtbycitroenlive', 6, 'GTbyCITROEN Exterior'); galleryPost('GTbyCitroenInterior', 6, 'GTbyCITROEN Interior');

newVideoPlayer("/GT-Citroen.flv", 494, 300,""); There has been a rumor floating around for a while that automaker Citroen would partner with Polyphony Digital to create a car exclusive for their game Grand Turismo Prologue and that a real version would debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show . Seems that rumor has some legs as a few teaser shots and a video have surfaced and they show a very low GT style car we can only assume will be digitally fast, and Frenchly weird. Check out the video for the teasiest of teasers along with images below. galleryPost('gturismocitroen', 3, 'A Citroen Shrouded in Digital Mystery'); [ LeBlogAuto (Translated badly)]

Details have emerged from Sony's "PlayStation Day" in London that Nissan will be sponsoring a Gran Turismo -branded competition with one hell of an eventual prize: the opportunity to compete in a 24-hour race in Dubai next January. Getting to that race is quite the task, though. Beginning on May 23 you can fire up your PlayStation 3 and hit up the PlayStation Network to begin the dirty work of qualifying by virtual driving races. To get to the 24-hour race it begins with elimination tournaments for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue . This will eventually whittle down to two winners who will then partake in four months worth of racing lessons eventually leading to the opportunity to take Godzilla around the track, for 24 hours of Dubai racing action. Sony will also be filming the bulk of the academy and will be made available for download on the PlayStation Network. That only means it's time to get practicing. [Via Kotaku ]

newVideoPlayer("gt5-godzilla.flv", 494, 350,""); The mastermind behind the Gran Turismo series has proven that he can handle real cars as well as he took the 2009 Nissan GT-R for a joy ride. Not only could the game's creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, handle the famed Nurburgring track, but he did so with it wet. Yamauchi even cites his familiarity with the track from the video game to help his real life driving. I doubt Yamauchi beat the 7:29 mark on the same ring , but he manages to keep it on the slippery track. See, Mom, video games are good for something. Check out the video above for the clips of him driving and follow the link to see the entire clip that features interviews about Godzilla and more. [ CarScoop ]

In honor of yesterday's release of GT5 Prologue we've been holding on to a few video game QOTD's. Monday, we asked you about your favorite racing video game from the 1980's , yesterday it was racing games of the 1990's and today we're looking at the post-Y2K years when, despite the fall of civilization and technology, we have some pretty kicking games. By asking this question today we also give anyone insane enough to buy GT5 yesterday and play it the chance to chime in. But maybe there are some Project Gotham fans out there? Perhaps someone will admit their love for Mario Kart Double Dash or maybe an arcade game like Carismo . If you own a Wii you can race through British streets in classic British cars in Classic British Motor Racing . Personally, we're partial to the arcade version of Tokyo Cop , which allows you and a friend to chose down the bad guys in a Kei Car. So many to enjoy, so much actual real person work to do. What games are occupying your time...

Kazanori Yamauchi told us that Polyphony Digital were getting close to finally including deformation, or damage modeling, in the Gran Turismo series, and we finally have some confirmation. Yamauchi recently said that the series will finally be implementing the long-awaited feature in the release of Gran Turismo 5 and it may even be available as a software update for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue as early as this fall. GT5 Prologue is still slated for an April 15 release in the United States. It's already available in Europe. It's good to see the automakers warm to the idea of kids across the world smashing the hell out of their cars. It may not sound like a feasible idea at first, but it adds a completely new level of realism to the GT series that is already pushing the realistic boundaries of racing sims. [ IGN via Kotaku ]

You saw the list of the cars and features the other day, but now we've got pictures of one of the hottest cars available for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue , the 1992 Ferrari F40. I've played my fair share of games in the Gran Turismo series and I gotta say that this F40 is one of the most beautiful creations so far. So uh, stop reading and check out the high-resolution images below. Please be sure to keep your pants on, as well. [ GT Planet ] galleryPost('gt5prof40', 2, 'Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Ferrari F40');

newVideoPlayer("gt5pro-trailer.flv", 463, 387,""); Remember Gran Turismo 5 Prologue? You know that glorified full-priced demo of GT5 ? The car and feature list is now available, and I am mighty impressed for the semi-real-game nature of GT5 Prologue. Some of the interesting features include a drift mode where drifting is judged based on multiple variables, in-depth car tuning, two-player split screen racing and a few new race events for online and offline play. Click through to see the full list of cars and check out the new trailer that is so beautiful the dragons from the fantasy games perk up their ears in anticipation. Gran Turismo 5 may still be a little ways off, but Logitech is already jumping to have an official steering wheel available for this long-anticipated PlayStation 3 title. It was developed by Logitech and Polyphony Digital, and includes a lot of features that will tighten the trousers of any driving enthusiast. The force-feedback system is capable of simulating oversteer, understeer and traction loss. It includes paddle shifters and a standard stick shift. Probably one of the better features is the 24-position adjustment dial on the wheel. This little red doodad will allow you to adjust brake bias, TCS and damper settings on the fly. The wheel will be available in May for $150. [ Driving Force GT via Uncrate ]

newVideoPlayer("gt5-prologue-preview.flv", 463, 387,""); The most beautiful and highly anticipated next-generation racing simulator is inching its way towards completion. The Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is out to day, and we've got a preview. "Prologue" means it's not the full game. Actually, it's like a glorified demo that will cost $40, include 5 tracks, 16-player online racing and more than 30 cars. Prologue is slated for an April 17 release date on the PlayStation 3, with the full GT5 game coming sooner or later. At least by the time PlayStation Ocho rolls around. [ Techeblog ]

newVideoPlayer("GT5_Intro.flv", 475, 376,""); In case you missed it, there has been a playable Gran Tourismo 5 demo available for download since October. If you have a Playstation 3, we'll assume your thumbs have been bleeding since then. If not here's the intro video. Pretty would be an understatement. If the GT5 trailer we brought to your eyes last year was just sip of the full game, this one is a Big Gulp of Jolt Cola. The game that always falls like manna from racing-sim heaven is already out in Japan, but we have to wait till February 19 for the full version of Gran Tourismo 5 Prologue to hit the US.

newVideoPlayer("gt5trailer_jalopnik.flv", 475, 376); The Gran Turismo 5 trailer has emerged and we couldn't be more excited (though, we still haven't shelled out enough dough for a PlaySation 3). And while we can enjoy other racing simulators and motorsports games, we've been hooked since the Mazda Demio braking test in the original Gran Turismo for the PS1. In the trailer we get a mixture of vehicles (including a new Nissan GT-R), some track shots and one wicked soundtrack (no offense Cardigans). What we know about the GT5 is that it's super realistic looking , it'll have the Nissan GT-R , the track from Top Gear and us scrounging for a few hundred bucks.

We have to admit, telling the difference between the photorealism of the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and the real realism of, well, reality is harder than it sounds. We were absolutely positive about our answers the first time trying this quiz, and still got only 10 out of 14. Of course, we've been waiting for it since 2005 so the graphicals surely had to be this good. Think of where Britney Spears was in 2005; it's been a long road. (Thanks to Sidney for the tip.)
