With Max Mosley pushing a one-engine-for-all agenda as a cost-saving measure for Formula One teams, Ferrari has threatened to get out of the F1 business entirely. Ferrari believes that, after more than 50 years of consecutive commitment to the racing series, it would be better served looking elsewhere for race wins if the spec engine proposal gets approved. Mosley has tried to ignore the problem — which he's proven is a winning strategy . Ferrari is probably just mouthing off, as they have made so much history in F1 people are naming buildings after their drivers. The Ferrari statement below the jump. No, Tanner Foust is not being considered as a replacement for Kimi Raikkonen at Scuderia Ferrari, but the Top Gear USA host spent some time behind the wheel of a Ferrari Formula One racer. Though by "seat time" we mean that he just sat down in the car, and was then asked politely to get out. Lame. Apparently is was all a shtick for the SPEED Channel show "Supercars Exposed," hosted by Tanner. Although, you know, it sort of makes his Lamborghini Reventón test drive seem really exciting. Anyone doubting Formula One's temperance movement has legs need only cast their F1-geek eyes on the latest Constructors' champ's entry for the aught eight season. Yesterday, Ferrari's F2008 car became the first showing among new cars that must comply with the latest technology prohibition by Formula One's own Robin Hood, Bernie Ecclestone and his "Merry Man" Max Mosley. They've robbed from the rich and given unto the lowest common demoninator, standardizing engine computing and banning most driver aids. All that, they say, to force F1 to be more of a drivers' contest. This is just an intermission, however; the next wave of development will start before next decade. Just as we finished, or so we thought, with all the FIA spying madness , it all comes back up again. The McLaren team has finally made a full apology for stealing data from Ferrari (and then, maybe, letting derivative data sneak into the hands of Renault). In a letter to the FIA, Martin Whitmarsh, the head of the team, wrote "We apologize unreservedly if our prior ignorance of some of these facts has misled World Motor Sports Council and we can only assure you all that this was never our intention." Of course, McLaren was heavily fined and kicked out of the constructors' championship. So the damage has been done there. Hopefully, everyone will tone down the stealing and focus on important things, like developing new engines... oh, wait . [ Canadian Press ]

When you're Michael Schumacher, you can pretty much do whatever you want to whatever Ferrari that crosses your path. In this case, he was lending a hand to his old teammates and testing out their revised F1 car, sans traction control. Though technically in retirement, the seven-time world champ racked up 64 laps and set the fastest pace of the day in Barcelona. Though Schumacher's purpose is to help the Ferrari team and drivers, we wonder if his secondary purpose isn't to remind everyone that he's still their superior. [ ITV-F1 ]

Renault has issued a sort-of-denial, claiming that they had McLaren data but it didn't end up in their car. As we mentioned yesterday , Renault was accused of having stolen McLaren F1 data (which might have originally been stolen from Ferrari). The best part is where they admit that engineers may have seen some "reduced scale" drawings but that they didn't influence the Renault's design... right. The statement, in all its hilarious glory, below the jump: STATEMENT FROM RENAULT F1 TEAM On the 6th September 2007 it came to our attention that an engineer (Mr Phil Mackereth) who joined the team from McLaren in Sept 2006 had brought with him some information that was considered to be proprietary to McLaren. This information was contained on old style floppy discs and included copies of some McLaren engineering drawings and some technical spreadsheets. This information was loaded at the request of Mr Mackereth onto his personal directory on the Renault F1 Team file system...
