Since the Gumball 3000 started from San Francisco this year, I headed across the Bay to get all up-close and personal with some Pyongyang-bound rich folks' rides. While Fairmont Hotel valets brought luggage out to such machines as the Chrome Lamborghini and K.I.T.T. and hordes of crazy-eyed tourists shoved against the police barricades in hopes of catching a glimpse of celebrities I'm too culturally ignorant to recognize, I stuck my camera's snout up in some grilles. galleryPost('08Gumball3000Cars', 9, 'Cars Of The 2008 Gumball 3000');

For those who didn't watch the entire 24 Hours Of Le Mans by subsisting on a diet of Bawls and Pop Rocks this weekend, we've got a short wrap-up for you. We'll leave the salient details for below the jump, just in case there are some of you out there that TiVo'd the festivities and are planning to dole out the oil-burning goodness four hours at a time for the next week. Needless to say, some cars won. Others didn't. There was weather. If you want to know more you're going to have to click the button that says "more." LMP1 Class The big news here was that the trio of Peugeots fell to the #2 Audi Sport North America car driven by Capello, McNish and Kirstensen. Hmm... the Audis winning Le Mans. Where have we heard that before ? In case you were curious it was Audi, Pug, Pug, Audi, Pug, Audi. The drama continued all the way to the end with both the #2 Audi and the #7 Peugeot finishing on the same lap. LMP2 Though not as exciting as some of the other classes...

Ferrari wagon-izations and hypercars bathed in magnetizing yellow are just a couple hints the Sultan of Brunei is perhaps the most Jalopnik head of state in the whole world. Like us, he seems to have a maddening obsession with odd cars. However, what sets him apart is his seemingly unending pot of money with which to manifest his wildest automotive fantasies. Although word on the streets of Bandar Seri Begawan is his fiscal fortunes have depleted as of late, before he sold off some of his assets, he and his family created what may be the most impressive car collection the world has ever seen. We knew this already. But it wasn't until we were surfing the pages of our fave super car photo site that we realized the sheer height of awesome the collection truly achieved. Not only did they gather production cars, they commissioned the creation of entirely new models from manufacturers like Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Bentley. Hit the jump as we walk you through the crème de' le' crème...

With all the talk lately of Gulf Oil this and Gulf Oil that we got to thinking a lot about our own personal favorite racing color combinations. Is it the Gulf Oil blue and orange? What about the Mini Monte Carlo red and white ? What about those green-lipped racing Aston Martins ? What about the John Player black and gold ? All those prancing horses have something good to say about Maranello Red . What's the all time greatest racing livery? We're having trouble making up our mind so we need you to further complicate matters by telling us what we've missed or by making coherent arguments for and against the liveries already mentioned. P.S. The hideous photo above is from the GeigerCars Hummer GT .
