This image popped up over the weekend being touted as a prototype BMW M1 snapped during a candid moment in a Spanish hanger. As we all know, major automakers regularly keep priceless, top secret, never before seen but completely finished supercars stored in regional airports, without camo on them. Well, there was that one time . But this time something seemed amiss. As this would be a fantastical development, especially in the wake of the surprise BMW M1 Homage reveal at Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este, we took a second look at it. Something seemed...just a bit off. Those headlights look like they're from something else, and the hood bulge and nose are just too much a BMW M3, which has a front engine necessitating a hood bulge, where this does not. We call shenanigans. Really impressive shenanigans, and way more staggeringly awesome than the actual M1 Homage, but shenanigans no less. What do you say? Sometimes, less is more. These three-wheeled knock offs of western cars might be such a case. Sure, they're not safe, they're poorly made and they're slow, but who wouldn't want to drive one? More cute and cuddly than their western counterparts, Jin Da Lu's copies are likely to be way more efficient too, powered by an assortment of electric motors and two-stroke gasoline engines. galleryPost('3wheelfakes', 6, 'Three Wheeled Fakes'); Our favorite is the pilfered Prius . By using just three wheels rolling resistance is sure to be reduced, as is weight, due to the absense of safety equipment. Would that Lincoln had a sense of humor, they might have gone with a Ranchero version of the MKT concept it's showing here in Detroit today. Of course, they did build the Blackwood pickup, so they're not a bunch of non-ironic vessels, whether they intended to be or not. We're not relying on The Man to supply such a car; instead we turn to commenter Adamskiy , who mocked up an MKT Ranchero, sans white fiberglass cap, though maybe that'll be in a future draft. May all your beers be served in Swarovski crystal.
