"Big Daddy" Don Garlits is kind of a big deal when it comes to drag racing, having birthed the rear-engine top fuel dragster, and being the first in the NHRA to cross the quarter-mile lights at 170, 180, 200, 240, 250, 260, and 270 MPH, so when he buys a Dodge Challenger Drag Pack , you know it's got to be good. This Drag Pack Challenger is the third off the production line and signed right on its composite hood by Gartlits, claiming it as his own, along with everything else packed into the car like racing seats, polycarbonate door windows, manual rack-and-pinion steering, fuel cell and factory roll cage along with a stinky race-modified engine. We don't know if it's a 5.9-liter Magnum wedge, 5.7-liter Hemi or the nasty 6.1-liter Hemi, but at around 3100 pounds, we suspect it'll move — especially with Gartlits at the helm. galleryPost('bigdaddysema', 6, 'Big Daddy Don Gartlits Challenger Drag Pack');

Here's some hotness bound for the endless halls of SEMA — a pair of heavily massaged widebody Dodge Challenger s by Classic Design Concepts. Outside, the Challenger s get shaker hoods, a very snazzy wire mesh grille, and extra wide composite fenders which are particularly slick in the back, presenting a bulged-out version of the famous billboard side stripes. Under those fenders are 10-inch wide tires in the front and 11.5 inchers out back, stopped by massive Baer brakes. Those big brakes will be put to good use as both Challengers get supercharged, with a Vortech in the black version and the Procharger in the white. Think 560 HP; now that's a proper power-to-weight ratio. Details and more pictures below the fold. galleryPost('widechallengersema', 9, 'Classic Design Concepts Group 2 Widebody Challengers'); The Group 2 package includes the following all designed and developed by Classic Design Concepts: -Composite front fenders & "Billboard" graphic...

You remember that recent Dodge statement basically confirming there would not be a Dodge Challenger Convertible ? Who cares if Dodge won't bring it, because it's just opening the doors for aftermarket converters like Coach Builders Ltd. , bringing their interpretation of a drop-top Mopar pony to the SEMA show in Vegas next month. For the show, Coach Builders' Challenger gets 560 HP from a supercharger and other underhood mods, along with the requisite obnoxious wheels and what appears to be a Challenger T/A-inspired strobe stripe, though it comes off looking more like safety tape. galleryPost('semachallengerconvert', 9, 'Next Time Maybe Just Take The Top Off And Stop There'); Priced at about $16,000 on top of the cost of a Challenger, the conversion nets you hidden chassis bracing and a power hydraulic top with extra sound insulation, an integrated headliner and heated rear window. Body kit and engine package pricing hasn't been determined yet, as the company...

newVideoPlayer("/SRT600.flv", 506, 423,""); The folks at Hennessey have finally revealed the quarter-mile time on their mad-crazy Challenger SRT600 — and it's a pretty-stellar-by-Mopar-standards 11.9 seconds, with a top speed of 121 MPH. Although we already knew from our exclusive visit to the Hennessey compound , the Hennessey Challenger SRT600 churns outs 536 HP and 582 lb-ft of torque at the wheels, we'd been waiting to see just how fast it would be. Well, now we know, and we've got video from the Texas-based tuners to prove it.

Feast your eyes on one of only two Vortech-supercharged 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 's — blacked out, naturally. The Challenger SRT8 already makes 425 HP with the 6.1-liter Hemi, but would you believe this supercharged monster is currently dynoing at 540 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque? You know that scene in cartoons when the junkyard dogs see a sexy lady-dog saunter past and their eyes bug out of their heads and their tongues hit the floor as they start panting uncontrollably? Yeah, we just did that. galleryPost('vortecchall', 6, 'Supercharged Challenger'); The supercharger package is currently undergoing final tuning at the Vortech facilities and is targeted for sale in August. This one made an appearance at the All-Mopar Nationals last weekend where tipster Adam Geake, owner of HXC Performance, snapped a couple of shots for us. Expect more news from Adam soon, as HXC is working on a 'Cuda version of the Challenger for all those Plymouth fans out there.

The peaches over at Speedfactory Cars out in Georgia have employed the magic of forced induction to achieve 495 HP at the rear wheels of a Dodge Challenger SRT8. Using a centrifugal supercharger sending boost through an air-to-water intercooler, Speedfactory's dyno graph also shows maximum torque output of about 451 ft-lbs. While official figures aren't yet available — and we're not entirely sure which of the packages offered they've got running on this SRT8 — the commonly accepted 20% power loss from crank to rear wheels means this Challenger should be pounding out right around 600 HP at the crank. We'll take two. [ Speedfactory Cars via LX Forums ]

They may have taken his company , his cars and even his name, but they'll never take Steve Saleen's desire to customize cars to make them look so radically similar to the originals, they're virtually identical to all but the most carefully trained eye. Saleen and his new company SMS have just revealed the new company's first two custom cars. The twin set of Challengers, dubbed the SMS 570TM Challenger and the SMS 570XTM Challenger will, as Phil Frank, the company's Chief Creative Officer puts it "help define our design DNA." So we guess that means more of the same, eh? Anyway, these first two products of his new "Signature Series" of "ultra-high performance vehicles" are based off the 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T and will feature a SMS-supercharged 5.7-liter Hemi engine under the hood with power ratings purported to go from 500 to over 700 HP. Full press release after the jump. May 12, 2008 - Orange County, California. Steve Saleen and his...

Cardomain reader Warren is a man who, if nothing else, carries through on a theme. He's outfitted the 1996 Dodge Neon he calls his own in a very nice bright orange and neon green motif, a set of very rad wheels, a truly inspired aero package, and some cool skull themed decals and upholstery. Feeling the car lacked a certain... je n'sais quoi, Warren began work on an eye grabbing piece for the interior - a skull mounted front and center on the dash. The cheery addition practically winks with charm at you from the dash and there may be plans for the integration of a pop up nav screen. Bravo Warren, bravo. newVideoPlayer("1546_viper.flv", 463, 387,""); This has to be the loudest UPS truck we've ever heard. It's really important to notice during this dyno run how the hand held camera is shaking during one of the pulls. So it may not be quite as insane as the 2,200 hp quad turbocharged V8 we saw on Friday, but it's definitely more streetable, and has up to 100% more Dodge Viper GTS. This sucker is obviously set up for drag racing though following the advise of the video and going to undergroundracing.com gets us no additional info on the car. We did dig up pictures of the beast though and its pretty sick. This almost makes us sad that bad the Viper is as good as dead these days. How much you want to bet these guys have already rented an oversea container to Poland? galleryPost('1546viper', 6, '1546hp Viper GTS');
