What comes to mind when you think of the color orange? No, besides pumpkins. That's right, the Dodge Challenger ! Now, you can combine the two and make a Challenger-o-lantern, just in time for Halloween. We know, the example provided by Dodge doesn't exactly show off their pumpkin chopping skills, but they've at least included a stencil for you to try it yourself. We're stoked that Chrysler is offering a Dodge Challenger Drag Pak turn-key racer, but how exactly do you go about ordering one from your local Dodge dealer? Since these mighty Mopars are going to be limited production, you gotta prove you're worthy. First, you're required to submit your application in writing to a dealer, who will then fax it to Mopar Motorsports' secret lair. Keep in mind that this is all first-come first-served, so you probably want to get a fax confirmation to make sure your paperwork went through. But what qualifications will buyers have to meet? It's recommended that potential buyers have "a current Competition License or sanctioning body affiliation prior to ordering their vehicle." So, n00bs need not apply. That's because Mopar wants to put their best foot forward with the Drag Challenger. The Mopar Underground folks are prepping a 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T for unveiling at this year's SEMA show. They've got a plan: make the car as long and lean as possible, with inspiration from the 1970 Challenger T/A; what they don't have is a name. The folks at Automobile are helping out by photographing the build process and offering up commenting space for suggestions. The old-school shifter gurus at Hurst are back in the custom vehicle business, choosing the 2009 Dodge Challenger as their latest canvas. The Hurst/Hemi Challenger is scheduled to make its debut at the 2008 SEMA show in Vegas, after which it's expected in dealerships during the first part of next year. A Hurst shifter is included, of course, along with branded wheels, requisite gold stripes and "H" logos. The rest of the package consists of mods in your choice of four different stages of tune, topping out with a 500+ HP blower-equipped version. Last month's review of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 may have seemed to some a blinding orgy of Detroit love. Having just moved from Detroit to New York City, I was homesick and was seemingly in need of a shot of Motor City muscle. Still, I offer no apology, because despite the rose-colored glasses, I managed to outline the three glaring issues with the low-volume '08 model year Challenger SRT8 — the outdated interior, the weight and most importantly, the automatic transmission. After spending a day this past week driving the new 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T, SRT8 and SE on the roads of New York City and on the Raceway Park track at Englishtown, NJ, Dodge has fixed at least one-third of the Challenger's problems. At this years SEMA show, Dodge will be unveiling a new supercharger kit for the 2008 Dodge Challenger , providing the potential to significantly boost output from the stock 425 HP (in SRT8 trim). The dealer-installed option will be sold through the Mopar brand, and if the co-developed kits from Speedfactory are any indication, it'll consist of a Vortec blower with a cold air intake good for a whopping 630 HP. Hey, that's right up there with the Corvette ZR1's numbers. Okay, so the Challenger will still fall behind thanks to its rather portly 4,140 lb curb weight, but that'll be one hell of a ride. Oh, and don't get yourselves in a tizzy over that Plum Crazy Purple Challenger; we did that one ourselves, Chrysler style . [ MotorAuthority ]

The brochure for the new 2009 Dodge Challenger has hit the automotive webosphere and Mopar-mad fan-boys are drooling over an item we think will be an instant classic. The car? At this point, unknown. But the brochure will totally hit the "Found on EBay" pages shortly. That's because Dodge has created a gorgeous piece of showroom lit — with the fonts, photography, and graphic touches that channel the 70's Challenger. But as always, it's what's inside that counts. And inside the brochure is shot after shot of the new pony car from Dodge in all sorts of variations — each more amazingly retrosexual than the last. There's the R/T Classic Package Challenger, complete with old-school Challenger badging and a set of strobe-style side stripes. The peaches over at Speedfactory Cars out in Georgia have employed the magic of forced induction to achieve 495 HP at the rear wheels of a Dodge Challenger SRT8. Using a centrifugal supercharger sending boost through an air-to-water intercooler, Speedfactory's dyno graph also shows maximum torque output of about 451 ft-lbs. While official figures aren't yet available — and we're not entirely sure which of the packages offered they've got running on this SRT8 — the commonly accepted 20% power loss from crank to rear wheels means this Challenger should be pounding out right around 600 HP at the crank. They may have taken his company , his cars and even his name, but they'll never take Steve Saleen's desire to customize cars to make them look so radically similar to the originals, they're virtually identical to all but the most carefully trained eye. Saleen and his new company SMS have just revealed the new company's first two custom cars. The twin set of Challengers, dubbed the SMS 570TM Challenger and the SMS 570XTM Challenger will, as Phil Frank, the company's Chief Creative Officer puts it "help define our design DNA." So we guess that means more of the same, eh? Anyway, these first two products of his new "Signature Series" of "ultra-high performance vehicles" are based off the 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T and will feature a SMS-supercharged 5.7-liter Hemi engine under the hood with power ratings purported to go from 500 to over 700 HP. I was wandering around the floor of the New York auto show yesterday afternoon, trying to find a free scone. No, I was looking for automotive inspiration to break some second-day malaise. I never did find the scone, but I did stumble on the 2009 Dodge Challenger S/E up on its dais. I've been thinking of nothing else for 24 hours. The S/E isn't exactly carnival-midway material. First, it lacks the Challenger R/T's six-speed Tremec TR6060, or any other manual transmission. Second, with 250-horsepowers' worth of sad ham under its hood, the weighty S/E's zero-to-60 time is probably closer to that of a '78 Tradesman van than a 268-hp Toyota Camry SE. Can you imagine a greater humiliation than being dispatched by a middle-aged suburban bank branch manager late for her 11:15? I can, but it would involve farm animals, Irish whiskey and glossy photos. Despite all of that - and it's quite a lot to spite -- the Challenger S/E has remained foremost in my thoughts. Yup, more evidence that the Muscle Car Wars are on! After we showed you that single shot of the new 2010 Ford Mustang interior and after we ran the two covers Car & Driver saw slip out way too early, we happened upon the above shot of the interior for the 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T on a few of the forums all about the new muscle car from the Ram-headed brand. So what do we see? Well -- we see a lot of standard instrument panels, radio units and HVAC controls. But check out that silver plastic around the instrument cluster. Most importantly, check out that leather-and-chrome wrapped shifter. Now that we like. Although we already broke the detail photos of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 to you first two days ago, it now seems "The New Chrsyler" has deemed it safe to get in the act. Dodge has gone and revealed the same shots today -- only this time in high resolution. So check the photos out below in their full glory -- and note again the crossbar-delete option they've added since the concept car design. Dodge just issued a release exclaiming how excited they are over all of the excitement for the Dodge Challenger SRT8 (yes, the same Challenger we just revealed the first detail shots of earlier today, and first to show you a commercial on last week ) -- an excitement instigated by their release of pricing for said muscle car earlier this week. In fact they've already had a whole 6,000 folks drop a deposit down since Monday, with 4,300 slapping their piggy bank on the table on the first day alone. They're also claiming that they'll be revealing some form of "eye candy" later this week. All of this is fine and good -- and we'll even let them slide for using our service-marked and patent pending phrase " Muscle Car Wars " at the end of the release below the jump without charging them the usual $2 per use we normally charge. So there's what appear to be scans of a Dodge dealer pamphlet for the 2008 Challenger and Challenger SRT8 making its way around the internet. While some of the shots in the scans appear to show off the concept vehicle (the tiny words that say "concept vehicle shown" are the dead giveaway), some of the detail photos appear to show off a non-concept front-end, fuel cap, badging and rims. The folks at ALLPAR , who are rarely known for idle talk, have uncovered some details on the all new 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT-8. What we've learned is that the first SRT-8 Special Editions will come fully loaded at $40,095 with the 6.1-Liter Hemi engine and five-speed autostick. If you're in the market for one, we hope you like Hemi orange, silver or black, as these are the only colors the SE will come in. The only options are a MyGig Nav/Audio System ($890), Summer Tires ($50) and a Power Sunroof ($950). The other addition is Hill Start Assist, which was previously available on Chrysler truck products like the Ram, Commander, Liberty and Grand Cherokee. The system works by maintaining the same level of brake pressure applied before the driver switches to the throttle, and then releasing the break in proportion to the increase in throttle. This is helpful if you're set to run away from a determined police detective in San Francisco. [ ALLPAR ]
