In last night's episode of Top Gear , Jeremy Clarkson put the show's engineering talents to work on building an answer to a question we never knew we had; Can you build a blender out of a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 Corvette engine? The answer, as you can see in the video below the jump, is yes. It's simply astonishing to watch a 436 HP, 424 lb-ft of torque metal monster rip up some meat. We all know Clarkson's got a thing for power, but who knew it extended from the track into the kitchen?

With GM hotshoe Jan Magnussen in the cockpit of Zee Really fast One , the General's hypercar trimmed a staggering four seconds off its previous record-breaking lap time, bringing in a 7:22.4 lap around the 13-mile circuit. Although blisteringly quick, the ZR1's new time still falls short of the Viper ACR's best time of 7:22.1. We don't expect this glorious arms race to end anytime soon — not that we'd ever want these warriors of the raceway to quit duking it out. Guess it depends on whomever ends up owning the Viper brand . galleryPost('ZR1reviewtrack', 6, 'Corvette ZR1 On the Track'); [ MotorGears ]

We've always liked the generation-straddling '61 and '62 Corvettes. They manage to strike a handsome balance between C1 flavor and C2 daring; no small feat considering a 'half-car refresh' would normally strike terror in heart of even the hardest auto enthusiast. Such opinions weigh heavily upon this split-window C1 Corvette being prepared for SEMA by the folks at Street Rods Only , a hot rod shop out of Decatur, IL. It seems they're taking a split-window fastback hard top they offer for sale and grafting it directly onto a replica 1961 Corvette, then dropped it all on a frame occupied by an LS crate motor. We are thus torn. galleryPost('split61', 6, 'A Split Window 1961 Vette, All Aboard The Crazy Train!'); So it's an all-new Vette, with nothing from the factory, sporting hi-po parts and custom bodywork. What's not to love? Well, nothing really, it just makes us feel icky. Call us traditionalists, but a 'Vette should look like a Vette...

Legend has it the "Jake" logo, which acts as the badge of badass for the Corvette C6.R racing teams, was born when someone scribbled a skull in the dust surrounding the Corvette badge on the side of the team's transport semi. Others source it as a scribble on a napkin in some far flung dive bar after a victorious race. Wherever it came from, it's become the officially unofficial brand of Corvette Racing and instead of being hidden away on the car as is the norm, the C6.Rs sported a new, Jake-centric paint job for last weekend's Laguna Seca race (Corvette Racing's Olivier Beretta and Oliver Gavin won in GT1 by the way). The logo was proudly displayed right over the induction cowl in a design that came directly from GM styling. Jake's appearance has become something of a tradition as last year the logo was large and in charge on the hood as well. This year's design sure is pretty, but last year was definitely badass, which leads us to the inevitable question...

Here's a whopper of a story if it ends up being true: Autoweek is reporting General Motors has placed the next-generation C7 Corvette program on indefinite hold due to the company's shaky financial situation. Sources within GM are saying the program has been shelved for now with no specific timetable for release. This is not to say the 'Vette is dead, only that GM's management has no clearly defined direction for the car. With the pressure from 2020 CAFE requirements and with coffers running dry, there are other more important programs to tend to. Autoweek goes on to look into their crystal ball and imagine a time when the C7 will actually bow as early as 2014 — yikes. Unfortunately, this doesn't sound terribly far-fetched to us. Considering the madness happening in Detroit these days, this kind of thing has to be expected, but these kinds of rumors always come as a shock. We love the current Corvette, but that's a long time to wait for the next iteration....

From the "now you know it's bad" files, the Corvette assembly line in Bowling Green, KY will shut down for the week of October 6, then restart at a reduced line speed of 15 cars per hour, down from 18.5 now. Automotive News claims the stoppage will be the first inventory-related closure of the line since 1995, and could result in the layoff of as many as 75 workers. GM's current "employee pricing for everyone" event includes the Vette for the first time, and has been credited with rapidly shrinking inventories, but the company is concerned about continued market contraction. What? Incentives don't solve the problem for good? Hogwash. [ Automotive News (sub. req.)]

You asked for more, so now you're getting it — here's another load of exclusive photos of the new Corvette Centennial Concept car (with video here ) to be featured in next summer's blockbuster Baygasm, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen . You've got all sorts of great details in these shots, including the car's badge on it's rear end below the jump. galleryPost('CorvetteInsider3', 7, 'Corvette Centennial Concept Shows Us Its Metallic Deets'); Is it a new Autobot logo? Is it a new Corvette logo? Nope, it's a stingray, baby. What this means — only time will tell, we're sure. Some say he has a tattoo of a Saleen S7 on his rear end. Others tell us he was born with a penchant for oil rather than his mum's milk. All we know is he's called the Auto Insider and he's always ready to provide the scoop from the other side of Eight Mile.

Chop 265 pounds off of a Corvette Z06, add lighter brakes and wheels, some carbon fiber bits and a new hood, then charge $109,000 for the lot of it. Sounds like a tall proposition in the face of the recently reviewed Corvette ZR1 , but that's not stopping tuner Katech Performance from doing it. Touted as a "Superleggera" version of the Z06, the Corvette Z06 Clubsport draws a bead on weight reduction and suspension improvements. We can't speak to the results, but we can say they're going to have a tough road to hoe on this one. Full press release below the fold. KATECH PERFORMANCE UNVEILS LIGHTWEIGHT Z06 FOR THE TRACK New ClubSport Package Shaves Pounds to Shave Seconds off Lap Times CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Katech Performance, ever attuned to the collective conscious of the Corvette universe, knew this – enthusiasts wanted a lighter weight Z06 tuned for the track. var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/EXCLUSIVE_Transformers_Mystery_Car_Is_Corvette_Centennial'; There's been much speculation of late on the gleaming silver "Corvette-like" concept car spotted on the set of the new Transformers movie. Some outlets have incorrectly asserted the concept is a potential design for a next-generation C7 Corvette. They're wrong. Oh, it's a Corvette, but our well-placed sources tell us the concept, which we've revealed in an exclusive shot of the clay concept above, is GM's Corvette Centennial Design Concept. We expect to see it revealed early next year, months before it debuts on the silver screen in Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen . galleryPost('GMCentennialDesignConcept', 6, 'GM Has A Conceptual Hot Rod'); GM's Corvette Centennial Design Concept coincides, as you'd expect, with GM's 100-year birthday party. The concept's meant to be a means of merging design elements of the past with...

Yesterday evening we saw the Specter Werkes C6 Corvette GTR make its public debut here at Cauley Ferrari in West Bloomfield, MI. It's rare to have the chance to cover a car from its earliest concept sketches , through the build process and all the way until its public unveiling. But yesterday evening we completed that cycle with the Specter Werkes' special Corvette. The GTR shares only the roof, rear hatch and glass with the exterior of the 2008 Chevy Corvette Z06 upon which it is based and has a footprint widened by four-and-a-half inches. The overall design effect is one of taking the C6 Corvette, mixing it with a touch of Viper RT/10, and adding a liberal dash of kick-in-the-pants. galleryPost('spectergtrunveil', 9, 'Specter Werkes C6 Corvette GTR Unveil'); After the nine-foot-tall leggy models pulled the wraps off the GTR, buyer number one Rollie Purifoy pulled the car into the crush of an enthusiastic crowd, giving us an opportunity to spend a couple of minutes...

newVideoPlayer("/ZR1Build_gawker.flv", 506, 423,""); The much-anticipated 2009 Corvette ZR1 began production, as the first unit finished the assembly process and was delivered to Chevy dealer Dave Ressler during a press event in Bowling Green on Monday. What, you didn't notice? Well, it seems the build coincided with the unveiling of the new Chevy Camaro , forcing the ZR1 news under the radar. Guess those promotions budget cuts only allow one high-profile unveiling per week, eh? Jalopnik Snap Judgment: Dave Ressler, the new owner of the first 2009 ZR1 — the rights to which were sold at Barrett-Jackson , with proceeds going to charity — also happens to be the owner of the oldest known Corvette, a 1953 model. So what does Ressler do for a living? Why, he's a Chevy dealer, of course, and the owner of a large 'Vette collection in North Dakota. Ressler hasn't announced his plans for the new car, which has unique blue paint and a special VIN, but...

What It's Selling : C6 Corvette Z06 Where It's At : Middle East What This Ad Literally Says : "You Do The Math" What This Ad Intends To Say : 505 little horses + you = lots of fun What This Ad Suggests : If you live in Qatar you probably already own a stable with hundreds of horses; how much easier it would be for you if you had the power of all those horses in one awesome car? Jalopnik Snap Judgment : This actually reminds us of the " You Do The Meth " joke from 30 Rock more than it makes us think about buying a Corvette. It's a simple visual setup with a strong message, but the symmetry sort of reduces the impact. Overall, it's a "meh" to effete liberals with no desire for high horsepower. Good thing the large-walleted oil-men of the Mideast aren't known for being effete liberals with no desire for high horsepower. [ Ads Of The World ]

This jet black Corvette was spotted outside China's National Department for Automobile Quality, the agency in charge of awarding sales licenses to automakers. Our guess is this can only mean one thing — GM is planning to sell its golden child in China. The only problem is "Chevy" in China is like "Daewoo" in the US, a purveyor of bargain basement appliances. No problem! GM will just do with the 'Vette what it's done elsewhere across the globe — sell the Corvette as a stand-alone brand. Then you don't need to worry about your high horsepower mixing with your 'merican Revolution. Frankly, China's had enough of those as it is. [ ChinaCarTimes ]

We caught the rebodied and power massaged Karvajal Designs ZX-1 C6 Corvette downstairs a bit ago andare still mulling over the changes. The widebody stance appeals to our inner 17-year-old, but the hastily styled vents make us want to hate them. The rear end is where the bulk of the changes happen, and we see styling borrowed from the Porsche Carrera GT where once there was a back window. The rump gets stealthy hidden tail lights a modest reshaping. Under the hood there's an Eaton supercharger pushing 10 psi of wind into the 6.0L V8, which delivers 560 HP and 529 lb.ft. of torque as a result.
