Although we first saw n2a Motors ' Anteros back at SEMA two years ago along with the 789 retro-rod . Well, the custom coachbuilder's got a brand new bag of C6-modified tricks up its sleeve. The custom carmaker's bringing the latest version of the Anteros to the LA Auto Show later this month. This new Anteros hotness is built on the 2009 Chevy Corvette, and as usual, it's got a carbon-composite body that again looks more at home in Cambiano, Italy than Bowling Green, Kentucky. galleryPost('n2aAnterosZ06', 3, 'Z06-Based Anteros'); The new design looks to feature a ZR1-style side scoop design, but unfortunately, due to a lack of rear shots, we've no idea whether the rear gets the same googly-eyed taillights as the last model. n2a's bringing both a coupe and a convertible version of the Anteros, with the black convertible built using a stock 2009 Corvette donor car. The drop-top features the 430 HP, 424 lb-ft of torque LS3 V8 under the hood. The silver...

From the "now you know it's bad" files, the Corvette assembly line in Bowling Green, KY will shut down for the week of October 6, then restart at a reduced line speed of 15 cars per hour, down from 18.5 now. Automotive News claims the stoppage will be the first inventory-related closure of the line since 1995, and could result in the layoff of as many as 75 workers. GM's current "employee pricing for everyone" event includes the Vette for the first time, and has been credited with rapidly shrinking inventories, but the company is concerned about continued market contraction. What? Incentives don't solve the problem for good? Hogwash. [ Automotive News (sub. req.)]

GM's recent decision to re-offer employee pricing on all new vehicles brings the 505 HP Corvette Z06 down to an astonishing base price of $62,653. Normally, these type of incentives don't include high horsepower and halo cars, but according to the boys at Kicking Tires , GM will include both the 2008 Corvette and the Chevy's up-powered big brother, the 2008 Corvette Z06 , in their current deal. No matter how glowing of a review Wes gave it, with that heavy of a discount you'll maybe want to think twice about spending the money on the new 2009 Corvette ZR1 . galleryPost('2008CorvetteZ06Press', 6, 'A Worthy Champ'); The 638 HP 2009 Corvette ZR1's price of $103,000 (let's pretend for a moment vagaries such as dealer markup don't exist) has a cost per HP of $162. While not the best deal on price per HP, it's still a steal. But this pricing on the 2008 Corvette Z06 brings the cost per HP war to a whole new level — dropping the already amazingly...

Chop 265 pounds off of a Corvette Z06, add lighter brakes and wheels, some carbon fiber bits and a new hood, then charge $109,000 for the lot of it. Sounds like a tall proposition in the face of the recently reviewed Corvette ZR1 , but that's not stopping tuner Katech Performance from doing it. Touted as a "Superleggera" version of the Z06, the Corvette Z06 Clubsport draws a bead on weight reduction and suspension improvements. We can't speak to the results, but we can say they're going to have a tough road to hoe on this one. Full press release below the fold. We thought the Corvette Z06 cop car the Royal Oak PD is sporting for the Woodward Dream Cruise was impressive. But now they're rolling out the bigger guns with a Corvette ZR1 police car. The cop driving this 'Vette is exactly 26.3% more bad-ass than the Johnny Law in that weak-sauce Z06. Now you hooligans have to roll out some real hardware to even think about keeping up with the boys in blue, much less escaping in the blistering 3 MPH speeds seen at the Dream Cruise. And yes, we were getting the shakes: There were no fresh ZR1 stories for like, 37 seconds. galleryPost('zr1cops', 6, 'ZR1 Dons Another Kind Of Blue Badge');

When this article, nominating the ten best cars in which to play the hooligan, slid across our screens, we almost dismissed it as another high-powered, high-dollar, fried-tire fest. We're glad we took a look though, as Car und Driver actually put together a pretty entertaining and largely nontraditional set of cars we want and ones we'd love to hoon around in. Of course, obvious choices like the Corvette Z06 and Dodge Charger SRT8 are in there, but it's the others which not only raise eyebrows, but also concepts in deviance. [ CarAndDriver ]

At today's NextCruise announcement, automakers dragged out their leanest, meanest, greenest vehicles as a backdrop for the action. Of course, the fact that they were all SUVs was a bit ironic. But also on hand was a hot Corvette Z06 modified for Detroit Grand Prix pace duty and sipping E85 fuel. While no announcement was made, racing legend Emerson Fittipaldi's name is planted smack-dab on the driver's side B-pillar, making it pretty clear who's going to be at the helm during the 2008 Detroit Grand Prix. galleryPost('e85z06', 6, 'E85 Burning Corvette Z06 Pace Car'); This will be a return to a familiar place for Fittipaldi, considering he won two CART races at Belle Isle, in 1989 and 1991. The Corvette itself is pretty slick in its color-shifting paint, moving between gold and green. Way better than the '98 Corvette Indy Pace Car dressed in terrifying purple and yellow. It's kind of shocking, but even the light bar up top is kinda cool. That right...

To some people, the relatively affordable and fast Corvette Z06 is automotive perfection. Those some people might not like the Ugur Sahin Design Corvette Z03, which takes the Z06 and replaces the original look with a carbon fiber body that adds a touch of stallion to the America sports car. In order to make this truly a super car, the design seems to indicate that it'll be almost impossible to see out of the back of the car. Though the car is going to maintain the Z06 setup, it has the dimensions of a mid-engined sports car. And like most modern design projects, the company actually thinks they're going to build 100 of these. galleryPost('USVette03', 6, 'Ugur Zahin Corvette Ze Oh Three'); There will be three engine packages available for the Z03, with horsepower ranging from 500 to 750 hp. Prices will be announced in March and the first vehicles will apparently be available to costumers late in 2008. Call us a touch skeptical. [ Supercars.net ]

Oh god no -- please Chevy, don't go down Mustang Road. We're really hoping Corvette's not heading down the same road as the Ford pony car -- with random "limited-production" runs hitting the stage of random small-market auto shows. But then we see this number straight from the Ford playbook -- the 2008 Corvette 427 Limited Edition Z06. This new 'vette, unveiled at the Cleveland Auto Show (we mean Cleveland rocks, but who knew?) is supposed to pay homage to the big-block Stingray from the mid-1960's with the "427" signifying the cubic-inch displacement of the biggest of the big-blocks offered between 1966 and 1969 and also happens to be the cubic-inch equivalent of the Z06's 7.0-liter small-block V8. Yup, nothing says big-block like big small blocks. But what else makes this here Z06 special? Nothing really. Well, not nothing, but can we really count Crystal Red Tintcoat paint? Yes, it may be the first Z06 ever offered with a red metallic tintcoat...

The General's bargain brand will again be running Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the official pace car for the Indy 500. This year -- the 92nd running of the race -- there'll be two Corvettes serving as the official pace cars. Pace car numero uno is a customized Chevrolet Corvette Z06 concept that runs on E85 ethanol and will be driven during the race's pace lap by two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Emerson Fittipaldi. The second pace car will be the Corvette 30th Anniversary Pace Car featuring a black exterior with silver graphics honoring the 1978 model - no word yet on who'll be driving that one. How do we put our hat in the ring? I was the fat kid in high school. There, I said it -- I was what you'd call "unpopular" -- I'd never get invited to the parties, never got the date with the cheerleader and most certainly never drove the cool car. But all that pent-up pain and angst finally has the opportunity to release itself this Saturday with my high school reunion at Como's in Ferndale, MI. You see, a reunion's the perfect place to finally get one's comeuppance on the "cool kids" -- whether it's through losing weight, taking the cheerleader with you or driving a cool car. I'll be trying to do all three -- but for purposes of our loyal readers here at Jalopnik the a priori issue at hand is the car. And luckily, I happen to, as an auto journalist hack pundit blogger , have a decent number of options in front of me. I've narrowed my choices down to two diametrically opposite vehicles -- the Jeep JT concept and the new 2008 Corvette Z06. Now here's the fun part -...
