There's little doubt we're fan-boys when it comes to the new 2009 Corvette ZR1 . Any time you take a Corvette and give it more power, lighter weight, bigger brakes and a more competent suspension, you're talking about all the ingredients to send our supercar-loving hearts thumping right out of our chest, sign in hand proclaiming, "Do Want!" Then we found this — the Fireblade design concept — a re-skinning of the already potentially iconic Corvette ZR1 by South African designer-wannabe Idries Noah. Now we know it's nothing more than a 3D dream car rather than even a one-off design, it's still making at least one of us feel a level of pants-tightening excitement we haven't felt since the first time we spotted the ZR1 in an embargoed press event the month before the Detroit Auto Show. Back when John Z. De Lorean was coming up with cars like the GTO for the Pontiac Division, he also had this crazy idea for a "Mustang killer" that would be cheaper and lighter than a Corvette. Unfortunately, the Banshee was also faster than the Corvette, so the General's overlords- still pissed about the way John Z. sneaked the GTO out the door- axed it (though much of its styling lived on in later Corvettes and Firebirds). Only two roadworthy prototypes were built, a convertible and a coupe... and now that coupe can be yours! Just pony up the Buy It Now of a mere $1,500,000 and you'll own the Coolest Pontiac Ever. To some people, the relatively affordable and fast Corvette Z06 is automotive perfection. Those some people might not like the Ugur Sahin Design Corvette Z03, which takes the Z06 and replaces the original look with a carbon fiber body that adds a touch of stallion to the America sports car. In order to make this truly a super car, the design seems to indicate that it'll be almost impossible to see out of the back of the car. Though the car is going to maintain the Z06 setup, it has the dimensions of a mid-engined sports car. And like most modern design projects, the company actually thinks they're going to build 100 of these. galleryPost('USVette03', 6, 'Ugur Zahin Corvette Ze Oh Three'); There will be three engine packages available for the Z03, with horsepower ranging from 500 to 750 hp. I was the fat kid in high school. There, I said it -- I was what you'd call "unpopular" -- I'd never get invited to the parties, never got the date with the cheerleader and most certainly never drove the cool car. But all that pent-up pain and angst finally has the opportunity to release itself this Saturday with my high school reunion at Como's in Ferndale, MI. You see, a reunion's the perfect place to finally get one's comeuppance on the "cool kids" -- whether it's through losing weight, taking the cheerleader with you or driving a cool car. I'll be trying to do all three -- but for purposes of our loyal readers here at Jalopnik the a priori issue at hand is the car. And luckily, I happen to, as an auto journalist hack pundit blogger , have a decent number of options in front of me.
