Although we first saw n2a Motors ' Anteros back at SEMA two years ago along with the 789 retro-rod . Well, the custom coachbuilder's got a brand new bag of C6-modified tricks up its sleeve. The custom carmaker's bringing the latest version of the Anteros to the LA Auto Show later this month. This new Anteros hotness is built on the 2009 Chevy Corvette, and as usual, it's got a carbon-composite body that again looks more at home in Cambiano, Italy than Bowling Green, Kentucky. galleryPost('n2aAnterosZ06', 3, 'Z06-Based Anteros'); The new design looks to feature a ZR1-style side scoop design, but unfortunately, due to a lack of rear shots, we've no idea whether the rear gets the same googly-eyed taillights as the last model. n2a's bringing both a coupe and a convertible version of the Anteros, with the black convertible built using a stock 2009 Corvette donor car. With GM hotshoe Jan Magnussen in the cockpit of Zee Really fast One , the General's hypercar trimmed a staggering four seconds off its previous record-breaking lap time, bringing in a 7:22.4 lap around the 13-mile circuit. Although blisteringly quick, the ZR1's new time still falls short of the Viper ACR's best time of 7:22.1. We don't expect this glorious arms race to end anytime soon — not that we'd ever want these warriors of the raceway to quit duking it out. From the "now you know it's bad" files, the Corvette assembly line in Bowling Green, KY will shut down for the week of October 6, then restart at a reduced line speed of 15 cars per hour, down from 18.5 now. Automotive News claims the stoppage will be the first inventory-related closure of the line since 1995, and could result in the layoff of as many as 75 workers. GM's current "employee pricing for everyone" event includes the Vette for the first time, and has been credited with rapidly shrinking inventories, but the company is concerned about continued market contraction. The 2009 Corvette ZR1 , GM's new mega-powered super car, will reportedly only be offered to the top 338 Chevy dealers nationwide. That effectively shuts out the other 3,594 from the chance of offering one to enthusiastic fans of the bowtied brand. We guess that explains the four-times-the-price gouging we're hearing about from potential customers. That's right, although the 638 HP 2009 ZR1 gets a price tag of $103,300 ($105,000 with the $1,700 gas guzzler tax) and Corvette engineers asking dealers to respect the MSRP, we've received at least one report from a reader of being told that despite his down payment 2 1/2 years ago, he'd have to put up between two and four times the MSRP to get one in his garage. If that number is accurate, the street price will be somewhere between $206,600 and $413,200 for Zee Really fast One. We got a release from the folks at the General yesterday, and we were told we could run it at midnight-plus-one, but then we forgot about it. These things happen, you know. We mean, who gets excited about something as fait accompli as the 2009 Corvette ZR1 getting just over 620 HP? Well, if your answer is everyone, you're probably right. And why shouldn't we be excited about Zee new Really fast One from Chevy? Especially since they've now got officially certified power ratings on that beautiful Jakegasmic LS9 engine — 638 HP, nearly 103 horses per liter — and 604 lb-ft of torque, which'll let the new supercharged Corvette ZR1 break that all-important 200 MPH speed barrier. We knew there was a reason we liked this from the moment we first exploded the LS9 for all to see. Next question however is whether Wes will be back in the road test saddle in time for what we're expecting will be a summertime drive of the new ZR1 or whether it'll have to be one of...

While covering the Barrett-Jackson auction this weekend, specifically the $1 million purchase of the first "retailable" 2009 Corvette ZR1 , we did a quick Google search for the 2009 Corvette ZR1 in order to pull up our old story on the new super-Vette from the General. When the results came up, we noticed something rather odd. No, not Motor Trend being the first result -- we mean, come on, they're Motor fuckin' Trend -- the fact that Jalopnik is merely a step behind them says little about us and more about Motor Trend 's inability to leverage their brand name on the internet -- and about how low they've let their brand name go. But we digress. What was weird was that they've got their "exclusive" "scoop" on the ZR1 set up in the "roadtest" section of their site. What? Do they know something we don't? Was there some super-secret drive of the new ZR1 they partook in with Chevy? Our sources at Chevy say no. So what's the reason...

Yup, now there's video straight from the folks at ALMS of the "p***y magnet" itself, the 2009 Corvette ZR1 taking its hot lap. It's almost as if they all knew this was going to happen. In fact it appears they did. We're expecting the Corvettegasm to continue throughout the weekend. Why we even thought we'd have to pay a bounty of $1000 for any of this is beyond us. Sorry folks, it looks like even with our legions of loyal readers seeking a quick buck by way of our ground-breaking $1000 bounty on spy photos of the 2009 Chevy Corvette ZR1 , it just wasn't enough to beat some kid in a forum. That's where we found this shot of the new super-Vette which apparently hit the track this afternoon for some hot laps in the hot Monterey sun. We now hear it's been boarded back up in its truck and is now Detroit-bound. But fear not, we won't be deterred. It's obvious we just need to snag some change from under the couch cushions to drop into the basket for our next bounty. Maybe we'll even double the price and see if we can snap shots of Zee Really fast One with even less camo -- like none at all.
