  • Price Gouging Reportedly Sets Price Of 2009 Corvette ZR1 At Amazingly Insane $413,000 [2009 Corvette ZR1]

The 2009 Corvette ZR1 , GM's new mega-powered super car, will reportedly only be offered to the top 338 Chevy dealers nationwide. That effectively shuts out the other 3,594 from the chance of offering one to enthusiastic fans of the bowtied brand. We guess that explains the four-times-the-price gouging we're hearing about from potential customers. That's right, although the 638 HP 2009 ZR1 gets a price tag of $103,300 ($105,000 with the $1,700 gas guzzler tax) and Corvette engineers asking dealers to respect the MSRP, we've received at least one report from a reader of being told that despite his down payment 2 1/2 years ago, he'd have to put up between two and four times the MSRP to get one in his garage. If that number is accurate, the street price will be somewhere between $206,600 and $413,200 for Zee Really fast One. Full report from our tipster looking for recourse from someone — anyone — after the jump. "I put a deposit down for the 2009 ZR1 about...

  • 2008 Chevy HHR SS First Drive Preview: World's 2nd Fastest Breadvan, Priced At $22,995 [First Drive]

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/The_260_HP_2008_Chevrolet_HHR_SS_Priced_at_22_995'; "I woke up this morning in Arizona and spent the day happily hooning the go fast Nurburgring-tuned version of Chevrolet's HHR on freeways, twisty mountain two-laners and the Bondurant Road Course. How does the car drive? How's the Launch Mode? How do 260 horses and 260 ft-lb of torque feel through the front wheels? How much does it cost? Why did Bob Lutz call me a "pinhead?" We'll answer a few questions -- and show you the Chevy press release -- after the jump. galleryPost('hhrssaz', 9, '2008 Chevrolet HHR SS'); First up, price: The 2008 Chevy HHR SS will set you back $22,995. That's for the manual, and trust us, you're going to want the manual. If for no other reason than the slushbox sucks up 25 hp. As for Maximum Bob, before taking to the track he and I both made a beeline for the extra large helmets. "I have a big noggin, 7 3/4,"...
  • Ad Watch: New Chevy Ad Campaign To "Prove Malibu Competes With Camry, Accord"

Now that pricing for the new Malibu is out, we've just received a missive from the General telling us the 'merican revolution's got a marketing campaign in a pot and cooking for the newly redesigned 2008 Chevy Malibu . The campaign is supposedly going to "prove the Malibu competes with" the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. How's it going to prove that? We've no idea -- we haven't seen the creative yet. But we do know it'll supposedly feature the "biggest one-day digital takeover ever by a marketer...with "an unprecedented one-day digital takeover of the leading online portals and automotive, sports and lifestyle Web sites" We'll ignore the whole redundancy of making clear "Web sites" are "digital" and "online" as we wonder whether we'll be considered "leading" enough to get a blast of the 'bu to the face. Since our well-paid ad sales team only talks to us when we go to the bar and we beg them to buy us drinks we guess we'll just have to wait and see with all of you. Full release on the...
