Who doesn't love a little high-speed humor? Especially when it's linked to a post about a car that was born during the first Roosevelt administration and later, much later, modified for unholy speed. We also enjoy a smidgen of classic SoCal pop and just a whiff of the revivalist fervor that has lately gripped Jalopnik. Guessed it yet? Well, then follow the jump. Our COTD is 13oostedwagn, who produced this comment, in response to Autorama's 1932 Ford bearing a Viper V8 and laying down 0-60 in--dear Lord--4 sec: She's my lil' deuce coupe You don't know what she...AHH MY FLESH IS BURNING!!! Yuk, yuk, yuk...

"I've sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber. I didn't want to do it. I felt I owed it to them." Who can forget Judge Smails from Caddyshack, or Ted Knight's immortal performance? Some hear, "yachting cap" and immediately think of Jim Backus and Thurston Howell III. We think Smails. However, a certain recently deceased fashion designer who was once asked to do a job for Ford can also come to mind, as well as the cinematic commander of an undersea boat. That's what happened today among the Jalopnik commenters, prompted by our post on the Audi Q7 Coastline concept. It's a tie! We've had our fun with the Bill Blass Lincoln, and now so has co-COTD BZR offering up these thoughts on the Coastline's, um, destiny: This will surely be the future equivalent of the Bill Blass edition Lincoln Continental, for future Jalops to revel in and blast future proto-punk music through their futuristic ghetto-rigged speakers from future sheets of plywood...

Maybe story tellers get better with age. Or, perhaps the stories were that much more interesting back in the day. But is there a single one of us who wouldn't kill siblings for a time machine back to the early 60s just to watch the cars race? Imagine actually being able to see a Shelby Daytona Coupe being unloaded from a carrier; being able to smell the freshly welded metal and paint. I'm typically not one to look backwards, but certain cars are worth a 402nd look. And no matter how many books I read, DVDs HD DVDs Blu-Rays I watch or tales I get told, I will never tire of modern racing's heyday. Today I put up a little ditty about Auto Futura's "new" GT40 recreation, the Gulf Oil liveried CAV GT . Lighter, faster and better all around than the original GT40, we've been smitten for the past 24 hours over this bad sucker at it's 500 horsepower at the crank 5.6-liter V8. Commenter SRekauqh had only the following to say: I effing love it. Both the prosecution...

El Loverman Misterioso is out tracking down the true culprits behind the 1916 Preparedness Day bombing, so I'm doing Commenter of the Day duty in his stead. Sometimes we choose a COTD based on a commenter's hard work and/or research, but today we're going to bestow it on the commenter who whupped some concise eloquence on an automaker's silly branding games and (as an added bonus) led me to waste several hours obsessively reading the Nuclear Weapons FAQ ... ...and that commenter is Seth_L , who had the following to say about today's 2008 Ford F-Series Super Duty review : I'm waiting for the 'Fat Man' edition. To be followed by an F-150 trim package, 'Little Boy.' Bravo, Seth_L! Can we expect a Joe 1 Edition Volga next?
