When you've got a supercharged, tubbed and roll-caged Holden Ute, burnouts, donuts and general hoonulence are inevitable, but this... this is hooning art. It seems you have to go to Australia for the real high-proof stuff, as this starts out simple and safely enough with a gross display of horsepower at a sanctioned local race track, but then the driver decides on a donut, and things go horribly, awesomely wrong as the car flips on it's side — twice — and then drives away to the roar of the crowd. Truly, we have much to learn from from this advanced civilization. ( Hat tip to Tim! ) newVideoPlayer("/holden-flip.flv", 506, 423,""); [ Youtube ]

newVideoPlayer("/98Peugeot106_494.flv", 506, 423,""); In keeping with the suspend-your-disbelief theme of 90s Peugeots in the American West , we now see a Spaniard's 106 rolling up to a stoplight in what appears to be the neutron-enhanced town of Upshot Knothole, Nevada. Naturally, there's some tattooed redneck in a tunnel-rammed truck representing the USA, sort of reminiscent of Lee Ving's character, Missoula, in Dudes , and it goes without saying that he ain't gonna let no damn frogmobile-driving' Yurpean eyeball his woman. You can see where this is going, right?

newVideoPlayer("/KalittaCrash_gawker.flv", 506, 423,""); We initially hesitated from showing you video of the crash and death of NHRA champ Scott Kalitta after we received a tip that a video from the stands had made its way to YouTube. We decided the death of a drag racer was a rather gruesome thing to show you. Although we knew the race was being broadcast by ESPN2, we figured they'd cover it with the dignity and respect it deserved. We hadn't realized it'd been replayed by "the deuce" immediately after it happened and then again, and again, and...yeah. So we figure — hey, if a mainstream sports media outlet like ESPN feels comfortable replaying it, then it must be alright. Right? Yeah, we're still not sure. But we deserve to give you the right to make that decision on your own. If you're one of those people who wants to see something like this — click the play button to see the Scott Kalitta crash. newVideoPlayer("challenger-track.flv", 494, 371,""); Loyal reader Jack found himself at Irwindale Raceway in SoCal yesterday for the run-what-ya-brung night and lookie what was there, a brand new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 . Here we catch a glimpse of the lady-driver givin' it to a Honda Civic SI in an 1/8th mile run which sees the new Mopar take it easy all the way to a winning finish. At least that's what we hope we're seeing. If a Challenger doesn't obliterate an SI at the strip something is very wrong. We're still wondering who the blonde bombshell behind the wheel was. Anyone out there know? Also, does the Challenger pictured here have the legendary drag package we've heard about for almost a year now? galleryPost('ChallengerDragsIrwindale', 12, 'Challenger Drags Irwindale, Brings Women With It');[ Youtube via Jack]

newVideoPlayer("drag_race_accident.flv", 463, 387,""); The horrible drag racing incident in Selmer, Tennessee at the "Cars and Kids" event last June has taken yet another tragic turn, with charges now being filed against the driver involved. The June incident occurred when Aussie drag racer Troy Critchley, while performing a burnout in his top fuel dragster, veered into a crowd, resulting in six dead and eighteen injured. The AP is now reporting Critchley is being indicted on six counts of vehicular homicide due to recklessness, as well as 22 counts of reckless aggravated assault. The case is expected to go to trial in November. [AP via Edmunds Inside Line ]

newVideoPlayer("DragBadWeldJob_gawker.flv", 475, 376); With great power, comes great responsibilities -- like remembering to make sure those weld jobs are done right on that rear axle. There's not much more for us to say here other than we haven't laughed this hard since we saw a a 20-year-old GM product up on 30" wheels try to drag at night . We think they're still trying to catch that last tire.
