Getting the first photo of all three of Detroit's new muscle cars was no easy task — taking time, hard work and more than a little luck. Want to see what transpired? The folks from Garage419 showed up to create the above "behind the scenes" video showing just how it was done. We'd also like to point out while the PR folks on the ground weren't very happy with us showing up with the competition, the GM and Chevy brand PR teams back in Detroit found the stunt humorous and took it in good stride. We give them a lot of credit for doing so. And why not? It ended up making it all across the auto enthusiast online world, with even Motor Trend picking up on the story — although they seem a little bit baffled by how it all happened . But whatever. Enough words, hit the play button above! ( Hat tip to Craig Lieberman, Garage419 and Ned! ) galleryPost('MuscleCarWarSanDiego2', 6, 'The Muscle Car Wars Are On!');

Here it is fan-boys, this is a photo we've waited patiently for what seems like an eternity to see. We believe the above shot of the threesome of new muscle cars from Detroit to be the first time the 2010 Chevy Camaro RS , a 2009 Ford Mustang CS and a 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 have all been captured in the same photo. Yes, we traveled a great distance, risked a great deal and received quite a mouthful from one snarling PR person in order to bring you this first shot of the trio. Although well worth it, at least one staffer on site wasn't as happy to have a picture of Chevy's new muscle car taken as we'd hoped he would be. Whatever. Credit Ford and Doge for being pleased as punch to welcome back the Camaro to the muscle car war block in the best way they know how — by letting us rev the engines of their latest entries hard outside San Diego's Hard Rock Hotel. They would have preferred to do a burnout, but there were too many law enforcement officers around. Check...

We're expecting official images of the ever-pending 2010 Chevy Camaro SS any day now, but the various photo shoots ahead of that day have yielded at least one gallery of good ones. An AutoInsane reader managed to get into a shoot and take some really great photos of the latest Chevy super sport. As we saw when Fergie showed off the Camaro SS , it looks a lot like the concept but with some real rearview mirrors and actual badging. galleryPost('camarossprod', 6, 'Unofficial Camaro SS Pictures'); [More at: AutoInsane ]

The first official image of the production-intent 2010 Chevy Camaro SS debuted in a Conde Nast magazine ad supplement called "Fashion Rocks" aside some singer we seem to remember used to be in the Black-Eyed Peas. This makes way more sense than dropping it into say, a buff book or, you know debuting it online like every other car these days. But, although the SS looks similar to the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro we saw revealed live in Detroit recently, there are some tell-tale differences. The mail-slot air intake on the top of the front fascia is real — which is to say there's an opening. Then of course there's the "SS" badge in the grille. Also, the front brake rotors are the 14-inch size with some big Brembo calipers. OK, so pretty much Fergie's Chevrolet Camaro SS looks exactly like the concept Camaro save the realistic sideview mirrors so, you know... surprise! [ Edmunds Inside Line ]

Welcome to Down On The Street , where we admire old vehicles found parked on the streets of the Island That Rust Forgot: Alameda, California. Can you believe, with all the first-generation Camaros built, that we're on the 327th Alameda DOTS car and we're seeing our very first one? Are they just too valuable to be allowed on the street? Or did they all go out in blazes of hoonic glory back in the day? If either is true, why do we see so many early Mustangs still on the street? I found this car parked at a meter in front of Jim's Coffee House downtown. Realizing I didn't have time to run home and get my good camera, I decided to make do with the camera in my cellphone . The General made 235,151 Camaros for the '68 model year, compared to Ford's 317,068 Mustangs that year. A V8-equipped Camaro hardtop went for $2,727, versus $2,708 for a V8 Mustang hardtop. With both cars offering roughly similar performance (i.e., terrible handling and braking, decent acceleration...

Note: Yes, I was off by a year on this one, which is what sometimes happens with cars I assume I know well enough to allow me to skip the reference books. Apologies to all you first-gen Camaro fans outraged by my mistake. I found this car parked at a meter in front of Jim's Coffee House downtown. Here we are, months and months away from the sales-floor launch of the 2010 Chevy Camaro , and already those persuasive salesfolks are prepping, poring over this conveniently leaked sales guide, readying their pitch to get you into GM's new hotness. We took a look at the nine-page talking points memo and found it unsurprisingly chock full of marketing-speak. Things like "world-class cupholders" and a "Reverse mohawk roof" prove to us that GM really put a lot of effort into the sales strategy here — just look how hard they're trying. galleryPost('camarosales', 9, 'The Camaro Sales Pitch'); [ 5ThGen.org ]

newVideoPlayer("/Trans_Am_AMC_476.flv", 506, 423,""); Sure, there were plenty of Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers- not to mention a few furrin jobs in the 2-liter class- roaring around the track in the Historic 1966-74 Trans Am Cars event yesterday, but: red-white-and-blue Javelins and AMXs! The sound of 40 V8s WFO on the track overwhelmed my poor camera's sound-recording abilities, but I did get a usable video of this Javelin warming up. Make the jump for many Trans Am photos. galleryPost('MH08TransAm', 6, 'Historic Trans Am Cars In Monterey');

Our buddy Scott Burgess over at the Detroit News has taken on the rekindled problem of which ponycar now reigns supreme. With the Ford Mustang GT500 and its thousands of variations, the reborn Dodge Challenger (now in SRT8 flavor) , and the recently unveiled Chevy Camaro all vying for eyes, there won't be enough Calvin-peeing-on-competitor decals to go around. Though the conclusion is left up in the air, Scott still provides an amusing simile while comparing the Ford to Chuck Norris with a Bowflex. [ Detroit News ]

The Pebble Beach Concours is always a spectacle of the well-heeled celebrating the well-known in the fancy-pants car show circuit. To go along with the car show wine is the cheese, also known as the Monterey Auctions, put on every year by the house of RM Auctions. There are always hit lists of the most desirable and historical cars crossing the blocks for huge sums of money; to wit, Edmunds Inside Line just did their "10 Best Cars at the 2008 Monterey Auctions" piece today. But we tire of such endeavors. That's why we dug around and found out what's at the bottom of the list. Below the fold: The ten crappiest cars at the 2008 Monterey Auctions. 1) 1909 Peerless Model 19 Touring Car Expected haul - $350,000-$450,000 Cough, cough, sputter! WHAT! You want how much for a clapped-out Clampit-mobile? Sure, Peerless cars have their place in history, but anything that two-boxes harder than a Volvo 240 just ain't worth that kind of scratch in our opinion. Let's say you...

Turn it on just to see Phil LeBeau look a little awkward in the passenger seat of the new Chevy Camaro as Dale Jr. rips it around an Aussie test track . Following hot on the heels of the production 2010 Chevy Camaro coupe reveal, we get a good look at a 2010 Chevy Camaro convertible roaming the streets of Victoria, Australia. The lovely blue beast has us all reconsidering GM's direction on the car as it features the hood intake present on the Camaro concept, but nowhere to be seen on the production model. Is it possible we're looking at a Chevy Camaro SS Convertible? galleryPost('camaroverti', 6, 'Camaro Convertible Faking An Aussie Accent'); That top looks pretty smooth to us, sacrificing little in the way of style and interior room. And dare we say it, it may actually have better lines than the hardtop. Also differing in the convertible, we see the wheels are of a different design, though obviously that means nothing on a mule car. In addition to a terrestrial antenna there's also a shark-fin antenna resting in the middle of the trunk lid for satellite and OnStar duties. So, a Camaro Convertible with a possible...

The most striking feature of the unveil of the new Camaro was how strikingly similar the 2010 Chevy Camaro is to the Camaro Concept . We enlisted the help of GM designer Jeff Perkins, who worked extensively on the new muscle car, to help us with the magnifying glass and determine what those changes were. Hit the jump as Jeff guides us through sort of virtual walk-around, pointing out each of the individual tweaks and changes the designers made to bring the concept to production. The New Camaro's Front "Our philosophy from day one was [to capture] the essence and philosophy of the first-generation Camaro, but with modern execution and modern materials and modern fit-and-finish. From a design standpoint, we want the Camaro faithful to recognize and love it, but we also want to have a new generation love the car for the way it is, without a history lesson." — Perkins galleryPost('2010camarofron', 6, 'Click For Front Details'); Click the photos above to see...

newVideoPlayer("/CamaroLive_gawker.flv", 506, 423,""); No, you didn't read that wrong. Our sources tell us those idling sounds you hear in the above video received anonymously from one of our tipsters (who we're still waiting for an e-mail back from!) aren't coming from a plain-Jane direct-inject 3.6-liter V6 engine. Nope, apparently the new Chevy Camaro painted hot rod red shown to journalists in Metro Detroit last night had either the big 6.2-liter LS3 V8 and its whopping 422 HP. That's enough power to take the Camaro SS around Germany's famed Nurburgring with a time of 8:20 . How do we know it was the LS3 and not the new Active Fuel Managed L99 V8 with the same displacement? Well, this particular Camaro's got a manual transmission. So yes friends, this is the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS — dressed up as a 2010 Chevy Camaro RS . Yeah baby, it's a sleeper! Nice. Also, see if you can spot Jalopnik 's fearless leader for some bonus points...
