"Doggone it! That's a bit ruff." That's the response Clayton Dwyer, a landscaper from Darwin Australia, gave when he discovered a pack of wild dogs had torn off the front bumper of his work ute and gnawed it to pieces. According to Dwyer, the dogs had been terrorizing the neighborhood for some time and had savaged his girlfriends car to a similar effect. The dogs are so problematic, the neighbors have taken to throwing mangoes at them to get them to go away. This story proves once again that Australia is a considerably more interesting place to live than your average country (as if more proof was needed). [You should head over to NT NEws because Dwyer has a lot of good one liners]

So you're taking the Holden Commodore SV6 out for a 93 MPH drive, you're firing your rifle out the window at passing kangaroos, and you've got five kilos of reefer in the trunk and a couple of pot plants in the back seat. Well, hell, at that point you might as well indulge yourself in a little bout of videotaped onanism, right? Sadly for Brendon Alan Erhardt, 39, the police disapproved of at least some of those activities, but at least they let Mr. Erhardt out on bail so he could marry his girlfriend. Thanks to 57Sweptside for the tip! [Northern Territory News]

You should be well aware of your own state's laws regarding use of cellphone while driving, but how about those Aussies? A recent report shows that police in Victoria have managed to wrangle approximately $5 million worth of revenue from silly drivers talking on the phone. They way the Aussies take the fines is an interesting one. Upon being pulled over for driving while talking on the phone, the base fine is $145 that is paid on the spot . I'm not too sure how the legal system works down under, but damn, having to pay a fine of that magnitude on the spot sucks, really. The $5 million comes from approximately 40,000 violators over the year. Don't think it is the Chatty Cathys doing all of the talking--men accounted for well over half the violations. Yes, 28,500 mates had to cough up $145, no questions asked. Now that's a fine. [ Scopical ] ( Image )

Today's "World's Best Dad" just happens to be a mom, proving that stupidity is not a genetic trait. It all started when two Australian women in their late 20's were popped by an unmarked car racing from traffic light to traffic light in Elizabeth North, Adelaide. No word on whether they were driving modified Holdens or just a pair of Taragos, though it didn't seem to matter to the police when they found the 22-month-old toddler in the back seat. Police described themselves as "shocked" and "horrified" at the discovery and charged both with speeding and hoon driving. Both cars were also seized and, we're hoping, someone is looking into getting that kid into safer hands. Australia! [ News.com.au ]

newVideoPlayer("AussieCopHoon_gawker.flv", 475, 376); The Aussie policehoon we told you about yesterday has been identified as a 30-year-old first class constable of the West Australian police. The officer had a reasonable excuse, as the organizer of a local carshow asked the trained pursuit driver to show off his moves. Nevertheless, the local authorities are trying to send a message and have suspended the cop over the impromptu demonstration. An interesting twist, his wife and partner was in the passenger side of the car but has not been suspended. All of this happened more than a year ago, but it's politically convenient to make an issue out of this now. [ The Age ]

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/motorsport/Australian_street_racers_cars_to_be_crash_tested_shown_on_YouTube'; The New South Wales Government is fed up with illegal street racing and has decided to implement the "YouTube Law," wherein confiscated cars will be crushed in "crash test experiments" and then shown on YouTube for hoons to watch. Prompted by the deaths of two citizens in August in an alleged street racing accident, the police have confiscated nearly 300 cars for their little experiments. While we kind of think watching heavily modified Falcons and Commodores plowing into each other is kind of awesome (it's sort of a big thing around here), we probably wouldn't feel the same way if we put forth the thousands of dollars for the mods. As soon as we find some of that video we'll happily share it with you. [ AuBC ]
