The 2009 Audi A5 Convertible , the latest in a long line of four-seat Audi soft tops, appears to have gotten a bit of an early unveil thanks to a photo leak onto the net. The most notable feature is the canvas roof, bucking the hard-on-top trend made popular by Mercedes, BMW, Lexus IS250C and Infiniti G37 Convertible by going soft up top. This means less weight, less complication and more trunk space. But it’s not this model we’re excited about. No, we're excited because there’s a 2009 Audi S5 Cabrio too. galleryPost('audia5cabrio', 6, '2009Audi A5 Cabrio'); The A5 will be available globally with all the A5’s engine options except for the 2.0 TDI — both 2.7- and 3.0-liter V6 diesels, two versions of the 2.0 TFSI engine making either 180 or 211 HP and a 3.2-liter V6 FSI — but we don’t currently know which of those powerplants will be available Stateside. Sales should start in the Spring. The S5 drop top will use the new S4 3.0-liter supercharged V6, making 333 HP and...

Eschewing trite teaser images , Audi has instead given us some actual eye candy, providing official design sketches of four upcoming models: the A5 Cabrio and Sportback, the all-new 2010 A7 four-door coupe and the 2011 A8 sedan . While the A5 Cabrio looks pretty much like a topless A5 coupe, the A5 Sportback is unique for not looking at all like a traditional sportback model, instead bearing resemblance to notchbacks of yore. The A7 brings TT-esque styling to the burgeoning four-door coupe market, while the revised A8, at least in sketch form, looks just about tough as hell. Take a look for yourself in the gallery below. galleryPost('audiconceptsketches', 6, 'Upcoming Audi A5, A7 and A8 Design Sketches'); [ Motor Authority ]

Audi has thrown its weight behind "Travolution," a German traffic light communication management system trying to smooth traffic flow and reduce congestion. The system works by way of 46 smart traffic lights installed in Audi's home town of Ingolstadt which communicate with specially equipped Audi A5s and A6s. The cars interpret the information from the lights and display an ideal speed to the driver which leads to smooth sailing through green lights as opposed to hitting the reds. The lights also interpret traffic density and adjust timing to reduce times at the line - and therefore minimization of fuel-sapping "stop-start" traffic. Sounds like a plan to us galleryPost('auditravolution', 3, 'Audi Travolution System'); AUDI BACKED ‘TRAVOLUTION’ PROJECT GETS THE GREEN LIGHT New traffic management system enables communication between cars and traffic lights to reduce ‘stop-start’ inefficiency * Audi lends its support to ‘Travolution’ project aimed at...

Audi's engineers did a fairly poor job of concealing the Audi RS5, the much-anticipated super-super GT from Audi, from the KGP photographers patrolling the California desert. The revised and menacing front bumper, silver side mirrors and lack of fog lamps is a fairly sure giveaway that this is the supremely sporty version of the A5. The question is, what can't we see? Is it the reported 4.2-Liter V8 out of the Audi RS4 beneath that sexy hood or is the twin-turbo V10 out of the wicked Audi RS6 motivating this mule? Conjecture and spy report below the jump. galleryPost('audirs5kgp', 9, 'Arrrrrrrr Essssss Five'); Spy Report It appears that we caught Audi engineers working on an RS5 prototype in the California desert. The aggressively revised front fascia carries all of the menacing design traits of Audi's other RS models, but it looks particularly fetching on the already seductive A5 coupe. The fog lamps have been removed in favor of extra breathing ducts to cool...

Someone in the know over at Audiblog.nl has spilled forth a detailed list of all Audi brand engines for all models through the 2011 calender year — and the release dates for new models. In addition to the big engine news, the leakers claim that we'll be seeing the rumored Audi A7 model in June of 2010, as well as an S7 version following that fall, and a return to form for the next generation Audi S4 . Look below for a detail look at what's coming up for Audi in the next three years. Audi A1 Starting at the bottom of the grid, the Audi A1 will maintain the currently planned 1.4 TFSI, but will get an 86 HP 1.2-liter TFSI good for a little less power but will be quite a bit easier on European wallets. Audi S4 It seems the B8 Audi S4 will be returning to its twin-turbo V6 roots, as early as this coming November. News of this respite from V8 shenanigans comes with virtually all positive notes, considering the engine is to displace 3.0 L but grunt out 330 HP, only 10 shy of the...

AutoBild is reporting (in German) that in calendar week 13 of 2009, Audi is planning the start of production on a new model to be called the A5 Sportback. Little is known about this possible new offering, but Autobild is going against the prevailing wisdom that the Sportback will be a wagon-like offering, saying it will compete in the emerging swoopy sedan category currently populated by the Mercedes CLS , pending Porsche Panamera and recently revealed Volkswagen Passat CC . While we're on the subject of the Passat CC, if this speculation is accurate, we're thinking this is V-Dub doing it's platform prostitution best with that new curvy roof line. We'll keep our ear to the ground for more details. [ Autobild [translated] via Germancarblog ]

The folks at CNet 's Crave blog were out driving an Infiniti G37 on the curve-tastic streets of San Francisco when they came across a brand-spanking new, and as-of-this-moment unavailable, Audi A5. Even more strange was the car was branded with white lettering declaring that it runs on E85 and that it was powered by the 2-liter turbocharged Euro engine instead of the 3.2-liter V6 it'll have when it comes stateside next year.
