To meet growing demand in China for vehicles like the 2009 Audi A4 , only 2.36 inches longer, Audi has just unveiled the A4L, an A4 with an extended wheelbase. The lengthened wheelbase should show itself in the backseats, which have increased legroom proportional to the stretch. This creates a vehicle that should sit somewhere in between the regular A4 and the A6 in both price and space and is an indicator of the lengths car makers are now going to pursue sales the world’s fastest growing car market, China. galleryPost('audia4L', 3, 'Audi A4L'); "The long-wheelbase version of the Audi A4 is being produced exclusively in China for the Chinese market. With this premium product, we chose to go even further than elsewhere in the world to meet the requirements of our Chinese customers,” said Audi Board Member, Peter Schwarzenbauer. The A4L will be offered with either the 180 HP 2.0 turbo four, or the 265 HP V6. Sales will be exclusively limited to the Chinese market. The...

According to AutoExpress , Audi is reportedly looking to fill the city car hole in their lineup with a version of the VW up! . The UK mag's even mocked up what they think an Audi version of the sub-sub compact would look like in a color that appears to be... yes, lime green. The Audi version would get the same engine lineup expected to fit under the hood of the VW up!. In fact, we're hearing there may only be one difference between the two — as always, it's what's inside that counts. galleryPost('VWUpLiveF', 4, 'Volkswagen Stands up For An Audi City Car'); Autoexpress expects to see available gas and diesel 600-cc two-cylinder engines and the VW corporate 1.2-liter inline-three. The Audi difference will likely be most apparent on the inside, where the company's up! iteration would receive high-line trim and amenities. Of course, don't hold your breath waiting for anything equipped with a diesel two-cylinder to hit our shores anytime soon. Frankly...

The new 580 HP 2009 Audi RS6 Sedan is a very exciting proposition, but for the rest of us there's this, the 2009 Audi A6 Sedan and Avant. Perhaps the most relevant additions are the new TDIe models which squeeze maximum efficiency from the 2.0-liter turbo-diesel engine via modified transmission ratios, a power steering pump which operates only on demand, and an alternator capable of regenerating energy during coasting. Combined with subtle aero tweaks and a slightly lower ride height which make for a drag coefficient of 0.28, the A6 2.0 TDIe returns about 44 MPG. It's no slouch either: With a 6-speed manual it accelerates from 0-62 in 10.3 seconds and tops out at 129 MPH. More details and full release after the jump. galleryPost('2009AudiA6', 6, '2009 Audi A6'); As you'd expect from Audi, there are allegedly many other changes to this year's line, but you might be hard pressed to spot them. There's a new range of engines hiding underhood, including a...

It's a lazy Monday afternoon in the summertime, and if you're Audi, that means it's the perfect time to reveal a new double-turbocharged quattro-equipped sports sedan. Enter the new 2009 Audi RS6 and its big twin-turbo V10 engine with an output of 580 HP and 479 lb-ft of torque — the perfect bookend to the Audi RS6 Avant revealed late last year. The RennSporty-6 sedan also gets "racing-inspired" direct-injection plus a dry-sump lube system. All will help the new Audi catapults from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.5 seconds with an electronically-limited top speed of 155.34 MPH, which can be optionally raised to 173.98 mph. Price? Well, on the other side of the pond, we're talking about 105,550 euros (round about $157K in weird Euro prices) when it hits the showroom floors in mid-October. Want more details? Hit the jump. galleryPost('2009AudiRS6Press', 6, 'New Audi RS6'); The new Audi RS 6: The confidently superior sports sedan from quattro...

It looks like Audi's got a V6 planned for the next generation of the S4. Yes, if Car und Driver 's sources are correct, the 2010 Audi S4 will get an all-new forced-induction 3.0-liter V6 — potentially wearing the designation of 3.0T — under the hood. The big buff book believes this new supercharged V6 will generate somewhere close to the 340 horses found in the soon-to-be-late S4's 4.2-liter V8. If the strategy works, the manny-tranny S4's fuel economy would see a boost of 20%. What's that you say? You don't want a V6? Well, if you simply must have the extra two cylinders, you can wait for the 2010 Audi RS4 which apparently is being designed to "better stand out" with distinct sheetmetal, bulging fenders and of course the bigger, longer and more uncut engine. What that also means is you shouldn't expect the new S4 to use different sheetmetal from it's lower-powered brother. Nope, instead expect differentiation between the new A4 and...

We're always suspicious of the covers from Autobild , they're like the National Enquirer of the German automotive press. Regardless, they've got what is claimed to be the 2009 Audi A1 on the cover and it's sporting the familiar gaping maw grille and yet even more aggressive headlights. Audi, maybe we should talk, we feel you may have anger issues, your cars used to be so nice and clean, everybody was happy (except BMW). Now, with this tasty sport hatch, you're just being mean, tempting us with forbidden fruits. [ GermanCarBlog ]

We could barely contain our excitement when we saw the first pictures of the 2009 A4 Avant , a fine wagon if there ever was one. Audi has now released details on the power lineup for the US market and, while diesels aren't in the picture yet, we will be getting an upgraded version of the 2.0 TFSI inline-four good for 211 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. That's enough juice to carry the entry-level A4 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. galleryPost('09A4Avant', 3, 'Audilicious'); The optional 3.2-Liter V6 will still be in the picture, but it is important to point out that the increase in torque (51 lb.-ft. to be exact) means the turbocharged four puts out more torque for less money. A steptronic gearbox is also an option when the vehicle goes on sale this October. [Source: Audi via World Car Fans ]

Autobild seems to have gotten their mitts on a picture of the new and improved Audi A3. We're not certain about the details of this new A3 and without the ability to see the all-important cargo area we can't actually confirm it is the A3. We can see that the new A3 gets the LED-accented headlights spreading across the Audi lineup. It also looks like the headlights and grille get slimmed down from the gaping maw we're used to seeing. More importantly the Deutsch-bags at GermanCarBlog even tell us to expect a notchback version. Theres a zoomed-in view of the sneaky leaking below the fold. [via Germancarblog ]

Seems that somebody is pushing forward with more diesel cars. In this case it's the Ingolstadt jungen heeding the call with the freshly announced Audi TT 2.0 TDI Quattro. Everything Audi TT we've seen already but with added oil burning flavor for maximum enjoyment. The turbocharged four pot common rail diesel manages 170 hp at about 4,200 rpm and a healthy 258 lb.ft. or torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. That meaty power band is good for 0-100 km/h sprints in the neighborhood of 7.5 seconds - not bad for an engine good for a claimed 42 mpg. More news as things develop, but for know, gnaw on the press release below the fold. Audi TT Roadster 2.0 TDI quattro Powerful performance with maximum efficiency Ingolstadt - Audi is once again setting standards, this time with the new Audi TT and its TDI engine--a model that combines pure sportiness and powerful performance with sensational efficiency. We've now got the official scoop and pics of the Audi TTS Roadster & Coupe that broke through the embargo shields on Tuesday, sans that horrible watermark from Motorpasîon . Confirming what we'd heard, the Audi's will get the more potent 2.0-liter Turbo FSI four banger good for 272 horsepower. This will give them a 0-62 time between 5.4 and 5.6 seconds for the coupe and roadster, respectively. They'll go on sale in the UK sometime around mid year. galleryPost('audittscoupenow', 6, 'Audi TTS Coupe'); galleryPost('audittsroadstnow', 6, 'Audi TTS Roadster'); Audi TTS Roadster & Coupe • New even higher performance version of acclaimed TT sports car available in Coupé and Roadster body styles • Debuts at the North American International Auto Show on January 13 and is expected to open for UK order in mid-2008 • Powered by an extensively modified version of the 2.0-litre Turbo FSI petrol engine delivering 272PS and peak torque of 350Nm between...

newVideoPlayer("audi4s6pro_jalopnik.flv", 475, 376); We're not sure if this video includes a subliminal ploy by the folks at Audi to show quickly spliced photos of rocks to get us to say that their 2008 RS6 Avant rocks, but we guess it's working on us. Of course, it's just like your average grocery getter (assuming that your average grocery getter is powered by a twin turbocharged V10 TFSI engine good for 580 horsepower). Our man in Bologna snapped these shots of the brand new A3 in brilliant white, looking very much like what we saw earlier . It's so bright, the spokesmodel in the picture can hardly look at it. As a reminder, the A3 vert is getting a pair of gas engines and two diesels with a power range from 105 bhp to 200 bhp. They'll be dropping their tops in Germany like Bild girls starting February 2008. galleryPost('a3cabriobologna', 9, 'Live Shots A3 Cabriolet');

The folks at CNet 's Crave blog were out driving an Infiniti G37 on the curve-tastic streets of San Francisco when they came across a brand-spanking new, and as-of-this-moment unavailable, Audi A5. Even more strange was the car was branded with white lettering declaring that it runs on E85 and that it was powered by the 2-liter turbocharged Euro engine instead of the 3.2-liter V6 it'll have when it comes stateside next year.
