This futuristic take on a flying car was designed by Hungarian design student Tibor for a design contest run by his native Porsche distributor. Inspired by the “bone of a cuttlefish,” the Audi Calamaro does a good job of looking kind of like its name suggests while still adapting current Audi design themes — check out the ‘beard’ air intake — to a product clearly intended for the distant future. We can spot no obvious means of propulsion, so can only assume it uses a Mr. Fusion. galleryPost('audicalamaro', 6, 'Audi Calamaro'); [ automotto ]

Audi's apparently taking the TT Clubsport Quattro — the same show car we spotted looking much more production-like earlier this month — to the Wörthersee Tour. That's the same Tour we could make neither heads nor tails of a few days later when Audi revealed their A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro concept . At least now we understand why we're seeing the Clubsport Quattro's exterior aluminum und shteel looking a little less concept-like and a little more prêt-à-porter, it's the interior that's got us flummoxed. Audi's thrown caution, and apparently "shteel," to the wind. The interior of the new for-show version of the TT Clubsport Quattro? It's made in that typical Audi fashion — heavy amounts of aluminum — und — und — orange ? Ja, mit orange. Can you imagine what the job of vetting an Audi press release translation must be like before they go out? "Hans, that does not sound like what you think that sounds like!"...

So what's happening at the end of May in the Austrian province of Carinthia that Audi would care about? How about the 27th annual Lake Wörther Tour? Sure. What's that? Yeah, we've no idea. What we do know is that the four-ringed brand's revealing what they've buzz-worded "a sensational study" and what they've named the Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro. The concept features a two-liter TDI engine delivering 224 HP and 331.9 lb-ft of torque. That's sports car quality power from a form factor that — well, has a bit of booty in the back if you catch our drift. And the purported performance numbers are definitely performance quality — a 0-to-62 of 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph. Nice. We like. Full speed ahead past the jump for the press release. galleryPost('AudiA3TDIClubsport', 6, 'Audi Does Diesel Good'); The Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro Audi, the inventor of TDI, blazes a trail in the field of engine manufacture. What happens when you combine a BMW 6-series, Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin DB9 and a hint of Audi R8? Well, you get the M-Zero, a conceptual design by Maël Oberkampf (and not officially BMW). It's supposed to represent a BMW "synthesis" between some of the luxury manufacturers out there, but it seems predominantly a BMW, most apparent by the badging. The Audi R8 reference comes because that is the look and feel the designer was going for with this design. It's kind of like getting Shakira's ass with Megan Fox's body and Eva Longoria's face. galleryPost('bmwmzeroconcept', 3, 'BMW M-Zero Concept'); [ Tuvie ]

Just in case you thought the new Q7 V12 TDI wasn't ridiculous enough with its 757.5 lb-ft of torque, Audi has made this nautically-themed Q7 Coastline Concept. Though we've gotta say that while this thing certainly is a land yacht, Audi missed the boat by not fully capitalizing on the maritime theme. First off, any ego-stroking self-respecting yacht owner needs a captain's hat , and plainly there is none such haberdashery included. There's also a very embarrassing lack of a " tender " vehicle; you would think that with all that V12 TDI torque you'd at least be able to tow along a Rinspeed sQuba or two. And while all the dark smoked oak trim is nice, we also wish the steering wheel was wooden with external spoke-handles. Oh, and the gear selector should be a big, brass lever. However there is one extravagance the we really like on the Q7 Coastline: the sun deck, which is just perfect for catching a tan... oh wait, that's the roof. galleryPost('AudiQ7Yachtinterior'...

Audi pulled out the huge guns to reveal a car that has as much of a chance hitting showrooms as Dennis Kucinich does defeating Ron Paul for President of the Internet. How big? NBC's Today travel editor Peter Greenberg emceed the whole shebang and even managed to semi-hardball some $100 a barrel, $4.00 per gallon petrol questions to Audi folks. Not big enough? OK, how about Frank Gehry, the world renowned architect and designer of LA's own exploded artichoke Walt Disney Concert Hall. Mr. Gehry acknowledged that while he tries to build great buildings, Audi does the same when it comes to cars. Oh, the Cross Cabriolet quattro? Well, it has a 3.0-liter, 240 hp diesel mill that stumps up an impressive 369 ft-lb of the twisty stuff. It will hit 60 mph in 7.2 seconds, was designed in Santa Monica and is painted in a Sunset Blvd. inspired color called, "Sunset Copper." And... that's about it. Ah, right, funny Audi-speak phrase of the year from Chairman Rupert, "We are...

No, wait -- it's not Shanghai redux, it's actually something new. Audi's re-revealing the Cross quattro concept car from the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year except they've done something "dramatic." That's right -- they've dropped the top to now reveal it as the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro concept car. Can anyone say Chevy Camaro drop-top? Also -- we feel like we're just being teased for today's main event -- the reveal of the new Audi Q5. Well, all the new deets on the convertible concept below the jump in the press release. galleryPost('AudiCrossCabrioLAP', 8, 'Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro Concept'); Audi is introducing a new vehicle segment with its presentation of the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro concept car at the Los Angeles Auto Show (14 - 24 November 2007). UPDATE: Our gallery issue has been fixed. So check out that A1 again. Much of the speculation is now over as Audi's just let loose some details and a slew of pictures on their new A1 concept car for the Tokyo Auto Show. It's called the A1 Metroproject Quattro, and it's the same A1 plug-in hybrid concept car we told you we were expecting to see in Japan just a month or so ago. Under the hood is a 150 bhp 1.4-liter TFSI engine with power directed to the front wheels through an S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox. But wait, here's the cool part. There's a 41 HP electric motor right atop the rear axle delivering an additional load of torque on those rear wheels when you put the foot down. This A1 is a true plug-in hybrid, with the electric motor capable of powering the concept car on its own in urban areas for up to 62 miles in pure electric mode and the motor can be recharged from any power socket. On the interior you've got a radio system that looks very much like the radio from the Camaro concept...

That's right, being it's October going on November, it's time for Design Los Angeles, where car companies answer a call for futurism with sci-fi craziness. This year, the call went out for robocars from 2057. And we'll be posting the entries throughout the day. First up is the Audi Virtuea , a car Audi designers say "combines artificial intelligence with avenues of self expression." That means its design can change to suit a particular momentary proclivity. It does it by eliminating that pesky material surface and replacing it with a holograph of a body style surrounding the outside. That way, drivers can change the car's looks on the fly, thwarting the police and confounding crooks by turning into a '78 Ford Granada in bad neighborhoods. We'll take it.
