Jason over at Audi tuner STaSIS just sent over these shots of a flat black R8 that they’re using as a development mule for a new range of upgrades. We’ve been hankering for a matte black Audi R8 ever since we first drove one and are pleased to see this one is getting more than just a sexy paint job. First on the list is a new exhaust system; no official dyno numbers yet, but that’s hardly the point. Click through to hear how good it sounds. galleryPost('stasisr8', 3, 'STaSIS Audi R8 Mule'); Next up is new suspension, bigger brakes and a set of gloss black wheels that Jason describes as, “B A N A N AS.” Apparently they’re quite large. That gloss paint will complement the gloss black sideblades, which are a seriously understated, but classy piece of customization. Us? We’re still holding out for a matte black R8 with gold wheels, logos and wheels, topped off with a white alligator skin interior. [via STaSIS ]

newVideoPlayer("/R8-skid.flv", 494, 371,""); We pulled our best Shia LaBeouf impersonation while watching this video of a driver losing control of his Audi R8 on a Moscow freeway and stuffing it into the wall. If there's any consolation it's that the footage is free from the sound of crunching metal — the kind that haunted our dreams after watching the wrecked Ferrari F430 get dragged away. A Swedish company called Vizualtech has rendered up an Audi R8 -inspired catamaran for a Dubai-based race boat establishment. The gorgeous 29-foot cat, called the R 8.8 BioCat, features gullwing doors, and is said to be designed for either a single biodiesel V10 or twin V8 gas engines. Top speed? 110 MPH, which is damn fast on the water. Of course, the whole thing is just pixels and math at this point, but at least the Dubai-based customer means the money might actually exist somewhere to build the thing. galleryPost('r8catdubai', 6, 'A Boattail We Could Get Used To'); [ Globalmotors via NextAutos ]

We’re seriously impressed with MTM’s take on the Audi R8 — not just with the performance made possible by the supercharged engine’s 560 HP and 428 lb-ft of torque, but with the way it looks. The tuning company has done a much better job at making the svelte R8 both more aggressive and more elegant than the Audi R8 V12 TDI concept. galleryPost('mtmaudir8', 3, 'MTM Audi R8'); Those headline power figures are reached courtesy of a supercharger, and reduce the 0-60 sprint to 3.9 seconds while bumping the top speed up to 196 mph. For reference, those figures are believed to be close to those expected from the upcoming Audi R8 V10 . But just look at that white paint and the all-black accents. Audi should offer the standard car in these colors instead of the questionable silver-on-silver. Things stay incredible inside too, with the addition of some very concept car-esque carbon race buckets lined with geometric white pads. If only every tuner car looked this good. [via WCF...

newVideoPlayer("/R8TF2.flv", 494, 350,""); This official Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen behind-the-scenes video from Wal-Mart gives a closer look at the Audi R8 during the first day of shooting on the set. Also clearly visible is Michael Bay's massive douchebagitude. With all the hype surrounding the blatant product placement that is the Corvette Centennial Concept and the production-ready Chevy Volt we sometimes forget that the R8 is going to have some screen time too. Though it's not like Audi is showing off anything we haven't seen before. [via Transformers.MovieChronicles ]

Though Audi claims that both the Audi RS6 Avant and Audi R8 are equally fast to 62 mph and 124 mph, we've always been skeptical as to whether or not the Überwagen of our dreams could actually compete. Thankfully, the folks at EVO mag had a copy of each to test out. The bottom line? Almost. Both share a quarter-mile time of 12.7 seconds, but the lighter, 420 HP R8 is faster through 90 mph and the 580 HP RS6 is faster through 150 mph. Not surprisingly, the mid-engined supercar manages to out-brake the much heavier wagon. And what about around the track? EVO took both out to the Bradford Autodrome and determined the RS6 was just 1.4 seconds off of the R8's time of 1:26.5. I guess now we know why the ultimate wagon costs more than $140,000. Based loosely on the production model, this racing version of the Audi R8 is what the company's motorsport division has been cooking up as a rear-wheel-drive, GT3-spec car that will be sold to customers for racing. Codenamed the "R16," the R8 GT3 should have over 500 HP to go up against the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup . Other upgrades include a six-speed sequential sports gearbox and an obvious aerodynamics package, but in accordance with GT3 rules, the suspension is very similar to a street car. So when can we expect to see it in action? Audi factory driver Frank Biela has already been putting the R8 GT3 through its paces. The cars are scheduled to enter production at Hungary's Györ plant, with expected delivery to customers starting some time next year. No word on how many will be built, or what they'll cost, but we're sure it's more than a road-going R8. [via MotorAuthority ]

Given the R8's brother-from-another-mother, the Lamborghini Gallardo, has been in drop-top form since 2006 it should come as no surprise we'd be seeing an Audi R8 Spyder at some point. Contrary to earlier reports, the R8 will not be a targa with a lift-off roof, but a genuine soft top convertible utilizing a similar, if not the same, stowage and roof design as the Gallardo Spyder. Hit the jump for our rendering of what the new 2010 Audi R8 Spyder may look like. Click Here For Our Rendering Of The Audi R8 Spyder! Aside from a missing top, recent spy photos show that the R8 Spyder seems to have lost its signature sideblades as well. Don’t worry kiddies, we're pretty sure that's just a clever sleight of hand by those crazy Germans to distract from the final blade design. Sources say the design will be encased by the sidecove intake shield. However there may be different versions depending on the engine — that's right, depending on whether a V10 is initially offered...

Apparently, the law of equivalent exchange is alive and well, for just as one Ferrari Enzo is rebuilt , an Audi R8 is destroyed... or at least it's really, really waterlogged. These pictures come from the Netherlands, where the straight, flat, canal-lined roads ultimately proved too challenging for the guy test driving this particular R8. That's right, the guy who boogered this one up was testing the car and lost control while driving at speeds up to an alleged 125 MPH. Dutch law calls this a total loss, so we're thinking this is the perfect time to dream up a more gonzo use for the 420 HP, 4.2-liter V8 at the heart of this beast. Now if only someone will get Wert to stop crying . galleryPost('wetaudir8', 6, 'Save The R8s'); [ AutoJunk.nl via Carscoop ]

The entire run of Audi R8 s for 2009 has sold out. There's now an 18-month waiting list for Audi's hand-built supercar. This news comes just as we were about to place our order, meaning it'll be even longer before Wert gets to drive get driven around in one . It also comes despite a price hike of $3,500, although we suppose that if you can afford a $113,700 car, that slight hike ceases to be relevant. galleryPost('08AudiR8mountains', 3, 'Audi R8'); The R8's success is good news for both the upcoming 2009 Audi R8 V10 and Audi R8 TDI , guaranteeing them a market — not that anyone has any doubt those will sell out too. Jalopnik Snap Judgment: This is the best supercar on the market, mixing gorgeous looks with excellent performance and everyday luxury. It's no surprise that the limited run has already been spoken for; in fact, it nicely validates our opinion of the car. [via Edmunds ] Photography: Grant Ray

We've seen a lot of the 2009 Audi R8 V10 since breaking the first pics and providing video of it running last month. But now we get an unblemished look from Autoweek.nl at the new hotness from the four rings in all its re-powered glory. The new R8, with it's 5.2 liter V10, flared-out side-blade, and modified nose is definitely swoon-worthy, as evidenced by these unbelievably clean shots apparently snapped outside of Quattro GmbH in Germany. We can't wait to see the times this thing posts on the Nurburgring . galleryPost('blackr8v10', 4, 'Jet Black R8 V10 Menacing The good People Of Germany'); [ Audiblog via GMI ]

Another day, another Audi R8 tearing up the Nürburgring, right? Well, look closer, because this is actually a new version of Ingolstadt's supercar. The 'ring-obsessed guys over at Bridge To Gantry say this is the much-anticipated V10-powered model , and though we can't see what's in the engine bay or hear the exhaust note on video , there are some subtle exterior differences between this car and an "average" R8. Actually, this might even be same car we saw not too long ago . Either way, we're expecting the mill to be a 5.2-liter V10 similar to that found in the R8's corporate sister, the Lamborghini Gallardo . So, what are the hard-to-spot exterior tweaks? What gives this car away are a couple of subtle changes to the intakes. Notice that the front grille now only has two horizontal bars, whereas a normal R8 has three. Also, look closely at the side scoops in the crossblades and you'll notice that they've been enlarged to feed the bigger engine...

Do you want an R8, but need it to have more power than the standard 4.2-liter V8's 420 HP? Well, you could sit around waiting for Audi to bring out the V10-powered model . Or you could try to swipe the V12 TDI concept . But, if you don't feel like waiting or stealing, you could have a Novidem supercharger bolted to the standard V8. galleryPost('r8supercharged', 1, 'Powwahh!'); So, how much power is the blower good for? How about 537 HP at 7000 RPM, and 405 lb-ft of torque at 5900 RPM. That means the sprint from 0-60 should take less than 4 seconds. No word on pricing or US availability, but if you really want more punch from your R8, you'll find a way. [via GermanCarScene ]

Adding to our recent video proof of the new R8 V10, plus still shots , we've got even more 5.2L Audi goodness. And just to prove they're serious, Audi's giving the new beast a shakedown on everyone's favorite test track, the Nurburgring Nordschleife. While we don't have lap times yet, rest assured that we're working on arranging a triple shootout with the Zonda F and the Nissan GT-R . Hey, a guy can dream. galleryPost('r8v10nrb', 3, 'Audi R8 V10 testing at Nurburgring');
