Audi’s fancy seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox will be an optional extra on the Euro-market 2009 Audi S3 , reducing the 0-60 time and upping fuel economy. The 2.0-liter TFSI engine makes 265 HP and 258 lb-ft, scooting the hatch to 60 MPH in 5.7 seconds and delivering 27.6 MPG when equipped with a boring old manual transmission. Spec the $2,610 twin-clutch and that time drops to 5.5 seconds and economy increases to 28.3 MPG. It’s the exact inverse of the effect usually achieved by adding an automatic transmission, in which mode the twin-clutch is capable of operating. The entire run of Audi R8 s for 2009 has sold out. There's now an 18-month waiting list for Audi's hand-built supercar. This news comes just as we were about to place our order, meaning it'll be even longer before Wert gets to drive get driven around in one . Though not the next generation of the Audi A3 line which winked at us from the cover of Autobild, this shot of what appears to be the new Audi S3 Sportback sure does look good in a shrunken, well-powered wagon sort of way. Snapped somewhere in Germany behind the oppressive bars of what we're assuming to be some sort of Audi facility, the upgraded four-door hatch gets a set of 18 inch wheels and some aggressive body work. We're told to expect an engine to match that aggressive-looking exterior — specifically, a 265 HP 2.0-liter turbo four with a six speed manual or a flappy paddle shifter. We're happy to see the more powerful version is just around the corner, as one of the biggest complaints of the A3 is its relative lack of motivation for the price — though we suspect all that motivation will motivate Audi to command a meaty premium over the standard A3. The Skoda loving Swedes over at Bilfeber caught a completely undisguised 2009 Audi RS6 Sedan undergoing winter testing in the frozen north. This is the first time we've seen the 580bhp twin turbocharged V10 TFSI engine without a station wagon on its back. Clearly visible are the RS2-style fender flares in addition to R8-influenced lower air intakes. RS6 badging is prevalent on both the interior and exterior. Earlier this month, Fourtitude speculated on Audi's returning to a bi-turbo V6 setup to the next S4. Now, AudiWorld says they've confirmed with unnamed insiders the next S4 will debut with a new 3.0-liter TFSI twin-turbo producing 330 horsepower. Despite a 10-horsepower drop, they say zero-to-60 times will fall from the current model's 5.4 seconds into the low five-second range, all with a fuel-economy gain from 17 mpg to over 20 mpg. And aside from besting the BMW 335i, the return to the turbo six means tuners will have a wider range of options for making even more horsepower. The new, B8-platform model will also get Audi's new vectoring quattro-drive system, which will allow on-the-fly torque allocation to all four wheels. No word on price, but expect an auspicious, champagne-soaked debut at the New York Auto Show in April '08. [ AudiWorld ]

The thinking wishful, the rumors longstanding. Still, Audi watchers say the Audi TT-S is destined for four-rings forecourts any time now. Word is the Porsche Cayman S / Boxster S rival will see 300 horsepower. Now, a member of the Audi TT Owners Club says he's caught what looks to be the spunkier TT roadster on German roadways.
