  • Suzuki Takes Crosscage Hydrogen Fuel Cell Concept To The Test Track [Motorcycles]

Proving that their Crosscage emits hot water instead of hot air, Suzuki just took their fuel cell-powered concept testing in Europe. Riding impressions are non-existent, but luckily for you, I've ridden the Intelligent Energy ENV that the Crosscage is based on. galleryPost('suzicrosscage', 6, 'Hot Suzuki Crosscage Hydrogen Action'); Both bikes use a similar power train, a hydrogen fuel cell / electric hybrid. Basically, the fuel cell produces electricity, which provides motivation and recharges the battery. When stronger acceleration is needed, the batteries — located in the belly pan — chip in. It's all completely seamless and silent in action and there's no gears or clutch, so the experience is a combination of the tall and narrow riding position of a dirt bike with the controls and power of a scooter. That might sound a bit boring, but the light weight and ease of use make the ideal combination for an approachable urban commuter. While the ENV...
  • That Old Computer Could Fuel A Vehicle [Alternative Energy]

In today's episode of The Holy-Shit-Gas-is-High Alternative Fuel Chronicles, we encounter researchers in Romania and Turkey that have devised a way to turn the circuit boards from old electronics into a potential fuel source. The process uses a combination of catalysts, high temperatures and chemical filtration to extract toxins from old electronic junk that could be a fuel for vehicles and more. In 20 years will you be cramming old, outdated iPhones into the gas tank of your flying car? We'd bet against it, but it shows that it's not just the United States thats freaking out about gas prices. [ Live Science via Giz ]
  • BBC Discovers Air Car, We Chuckle At Fill Up Procedure [Alternative Energy]

newVideoPlayer("Air_car.flv", 463, 387,""); We heard about the Tata backed and French developed Air Car back in January and are intrigued by the brilliantly simple concept. It seems the Beeb has caught wind of it too and recently ran the coverage you see above. The numbers on it are pretty exciting for something running like an air compressor with its valves reversed. A top speed of 110 km/h and a range of 200 km makes it seem almost useful. Predictions on production dates are to be taken with a grain of salt, but claims of the end of the year are bandied about. Wonder if it will be an available option on the Tata Nano ?
  • Ring, Ring, Ring, Ring, Banana Fuel, Banana Fuel [Alternative Energy]

By far, powering cars from bananas has to be the coolest way to go green. An Australian company, Growcom, is polishing off final plans to build a plant that makes biomethane, a natural gas, out of banana waste. To scatologically oversimplify the process, the plant essentially eats banana waste and poops out biomethane. The biomethane pooping process starts with an anaerobic digester that eats up all of the banana waste. Ultimately, this process yields enough methane to fulfill vehicle fueling needs. Unfortunately, it also leaves cartoon characters worldwide without their traditional means to cause others to slip. On the plus side, the technology can power cars like this bananatastic Charger R/T . [ Ubergizmo ]
