newVideoPlayer("/Oklahoma_Chase.flv", 506, 423,""); After eluding numerous spike strips and attempts by a Dodge Charger Police Edition to run them off the road, the brothers behind the helm of this Mitsubishi Galant raced off the Oklahoma highway and into a Chili's parking lot. Once inside the parking lot they were easy pickin's for the state troopers, slamming into a parked car. What compelled them to race at speeds above 130 MPH to get to a Chili's? Was it a Mitsubishi Galant GTZ? According to reports , police found some Mary Jane in the car, which leads us to believe a plate of Southwestern Egg Rolls may be the real culprit. [MSNBC]

newVideoPlayer("/trucking-fail.flv", 494, 371,""); Our experience with industrial wrecking services is limited to the lost hours we spent inexplicably mesmerized by the Speed Channel show "Wrecked," but we're pretty sure this is not the correct way to right a tipped-over semi truck. Somewhere here a step was missed or a check not made, and as a result another heavy wrecker is going to be needed. Incident action plan... got one? In this case, kinda. [ Youtube ]

newVideoPlayer("/BTCCcrashnew.flv", 494, 340,""); Check out this spectacular flippin' crash from this past weekend's final round of the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch. Sure, there was plenty of other drama, with the title race coming down to the wire before being won by Vauxhall driver Fabrizio Giovanardi. But as far as sensational moments go, this wreck is hard to beat. The driver of the Honda Integra, 47-year-old John George, was able to climb out of the car by himself, but he spent the night at the hospital just to be on the safe side. [via GridCrasher ]

newVideoPlayer("/oilslick.flv", 494, 400,""); The huge pileup in this video was the result of about 30 gallons of biodiesel fuel being spilled onto the track during a recent race at the Nürburging. It happened when a BMW 120d racer crashed, cracking his fuel tank open. The track was already wet, so the resulting oil slick, inconveniently located on a turn, was enough to cause the ensuing chaos. The shaky amateur video may not be the best quality, but the carnage is still clear to see. [via BridgeToGantry ]

newVideoPlayer("/Gumball3000_Jackknife_476.flv", 506, 423,""); Is the mere sight of a bunch of Italian supercars sufficient to turn a once-orderly California freeway into a maelstrom of destruction? That was the SigAlert report on a jackknifed SUV/trailer combo on I-5 in Orange County yesterday. However, the video above taken from the in-car dash-cam of one of the Gumballers may prove otherwise. newVideoPlayer("dumb-benz.flv", 494, 371,""); This is one of those videos which leaves you just shaking your head. Operating an automobile is apparently a monumental task for this E-Class driver and the result is both amusing and confounding. And sad. Since she just drives away after her and her band of friends asses the damage. We're assuming she went directly to the toll office to pay for the damage. Yeah, that's what she did. [ JoyBreak ]

newVideoPlayer("porsche_carrera_GT.flv", 494, 401,""); Here we find a perfect example as to why using those 2x8's you've got lying around behind the shed to load a half million dollar Porsche Carrera GT is a bad idea. We're not positive of the categorization here, but "epic fail" might be as close as we can get for everybody involved in setting up this cringe-worthy scenario. You can almost hear the carbon fiber chassis going all crunchy right at the end. Ouch. [ VideoMax (NSFW banner ads)]

newVideoPlayer("AutobahnCrash_gawker.flv", 475, 356,""); The good folks at CarDomain were kind enough to point us to another example of vehicular destruction today. As if we hadn't already had our fill with that crushed Nissan GT-R in Malaysia and the toppled Genesis sedans . Maybe we're just starting to feel a little bit dangerously destructive these days. Who knows. Anyway, there was a 60-car pileup on a motorway near Seewalchen, Austria today. One dead, 30 injured. And look, there's video for all you sick fucks to enjoy. I'm going to go and open a new bottle of scotch. And no, not the good stuff -- the real rot-gut, twist up your insides kind that you buy for cheap at the bodega down the street. Yeah, it's just that kind of a day. [ MSNBC via CarDomain ]

newVideoPlayer("drag_race_accident.flv", 463, 387,""); The horrible drag racing incident in Selmer, Tennessee at the "Cars and Kids" event last June has taken yet another tragic turn, with charges now being filed against the driver involved. The June incident occurred when Aussie drag racer Troy Critchley, while performing a burnout in his top fuel dragster, veered into a crowd, resulting in six dead and eighteen injured. The AP is now reporting Critchley is being indicted on six counts of vehicular homicide due to recklessness, as well as 22 counts of reckless aggravated assault. The case is expected to go to trial in November. [AP via Edmunds Inside Line ]

newVideoPlayer("car-lift-hoons.flv", 463, 387,""); I remember back in the day when I was a young lad first learning how to drive a manual transmission. My father repeated one essential learning point to me over and over: "Son, treat your parking brake like your [colorful term for a part of the male anatomy]--always grab it, touch it and most importantly, use it." And to this date I have followed those guidelines and never yet had to deal with a runaway vehicle. These hoons, on the other hand, haven't followed my old man's wisdom. Such a simple thing, so easy to overlook. I guess they could always claim a wonky throttle. [ Neatorama ]

newVideoPlayer("MinivanTrainCrash_gawker.flv", 463, 387,""); Today's Hoon of the Day comes to us from NBC's Today Show and the little city of Hinsdale, IL. Here's what happened. At about 5:42 p.m. on Monday, 72-year-old Franciszek Chudzik drove over a train crossing in downtown Hinsdale and attempted to make a left turn onto the third set of tracks of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe line, according to witnesses. The same witnesses claim they next saw Chudzik get stuck on the tracks -- as a '96 Plymouth Voyager is want to do -- and unable to move his van off the tracks, he then got out, put the keys in his pocket and walked off. But wait, it gets better. Reporters approached emergency personnel, asking about the condition of the driver. "I am the driver of the car," Chudzik told one reporter while chuckling. The reporters noted the 72-year-old smelled of alcohol and wobbled when he walked. In a move that was no surprise to those on scene, Chudzik...

newVideoPlayer("berlinettacrash_jalopnik.flv", 475, 376,"");We at Jalopnik have sort of become connoisseurs of the Ferrari crash. And while the Eddie Griffith Enzo Crash may be considered an enjoyable appetizer and the the original Ferrari Enzo crash the piece d'resistance , this video of a dumbass in an F355 is merely a refreshing Apéritif . You can do burnouts? Cool, so could my old Taurus. (Moderately NSFW Language) [Source: YouTube ]

Looks like the writers' strike is really starting to take its toll... This clip comes to us from Jason Torchinsky, our pal who owns the Scimitar . In fact if I'm not mistaken, the video appears to be shot in Jason's driveway and you can see the roof of the Reliant. This all has something to do with a comedy group called the Van Gogh-Goghs . So, just relax and stuff.

newVideoPlayer("LAHighwayCrash_gawker.flv", 475, 376); A "treacherous" 550-foot-long tunnel on the I-5 near Santa Clarita, forty miles north of Los Angeles, CA, was the scene of a deadly truck crash yesterday. The flaming multi-truck crash has reportedly already taken the lives of three truck drivers and left almost a dozen injured. Apparently the truck-only stretch of freeway mixes three of the problems truck drivers most dread -- darkness, blind spots and curves. According to the LA Times: "Big-rig drivers say they dread the tunnel. Some call it the worst in the state. The traffic lanes curve left toward Los Angeles and then, abruptly, the drivers find themselves in the tunnel, blinded in the dark...the curve plays a big role, too. If you're going too fast, you're dead meat." Note to self, if ever driving a truck near Santa Clarita -- stay the heck away from California's I-5. In fact, better yet -- don't even try driving a truck out there. And them's words to live by. [via LA Times ]
