  • Chew On This Stat: 10 Percent Of LeMons New England Racers Drive Alfa Romeo Milanos [24 Hours Of Lemons]

    Are we seeing the start of a new LeMons trend here? Rather than endless BMW E30s, Mazda RX-7s, and Honda CRXs, the Alfa Romeo Milano will become the can't-lose car of choice for LeMons teams? We know there will be at least one at the next LeMons South race, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that someone will manage to get a Maserati Quattroporte onto the track as well (come on, they're out there somewhere!). The sight of a trio of Milanos duking it out with all that Detroit and Japanese iron must be quite inspiring. galleryPost('NE083Milanos', 3, 'Three Alfa Romeo Milanos Show The Red White And Green At LeMons New England');
  • Time To Bust Some LeMons Cheaters... Wait, Is That An Alfa Romeo Milano? [24 Hours Of Lemons]

    The racers lining up for the 24 Hours of LeMons New England race today have had time to get their stories straight , so it appears that the BS Inspection went without any monstrous lap penalties. We've got UDMan on the ground in Connecticut, and he'll be sending us more photos of the rod-throwin', head-gasket-blowin', Bondo-abusin' action as the day progresses. galleryPost('NE08BSInsp', 6, 'Tech And BS Inspection At 24 Hours Of LeMons New England');
  • Ecurie Ecrappe Alfa Makes Big Splash At Concorso Italiano, Some Shiny Cars Also Show Up [Concorso Italiano]

    An Italian car with a glorious racing history should be given the red-carpet treatment at the Concorso Italiano , so you figure the Ecurie Ecrappe 1971 Alfa Romeo Spider should be a slam-dunk Best Of Show winner. Sadly, such was not the case, in spite of the car's great performance at many 24 Hours of LeMons races (when everything works, it's one of the fastest things on the track). Ecrappe member TheEastBayKid shot us a bunch of photos of the event; make the jump for the big gallery and EBK's description. galleryPost('Concorso08Top', 3, 'A Celebration Of Italian Style And American Bondo 1'); The Ecurie Ecrappe/Autodenta 1971 Alfa Romeo Spider returned to the Concorso Italiano in 2008 sporting red livery, Autodenta hood logo, and 750-series Giulietta front clip. This configuration was historically correct for Altamont 2008, though show judges did point out that while the car was accurate, fully documented, and competition-verified, it still totally sucks. Also...
  • Two Alfa Romeo Milanos For $299? Let's Go Racing! [Found On EBay]

    After Seatbelt123 and the rest of the Quattro Libre team piloted their Audi 4000 to a respectable 23rd place at the 24 Hours of LeMons South event last weekend, they decided to upgrade to some fine Italian steel for their next race. What better choice than the Alfa Romeo Milano , with its insanely complicated and fragile innovative De Dion tube/rear-transaxle drivetrain and neurotic bulletproof Italian V6? And- can you believe it?- it turns out you can get two of 'em for under 300 bucks! What could go wrong? Look out, Tunachuckers , you've got serious competition for the Index of Effluency trophy! galleryPost('EffluencyMilanos', 6, 'Two Alfa Romeo Milanos For 299 Bucks'); [eBay Motors]
  • FrankenAlfa Back In The Race! [Thunderhill Lemons]

    When we last saw the pair of broken '79 Alfettas , the combined might of both teams was being directed at making one good engine out of two broken ones. They managed to replace the busted oil pump drive in one engine with parts from the engine with the thrown rod, and now they're back on the track and looking good. For extra heart-warming points, it turns out the members of the two teams didn't know each other prior to the race; their shared love of Alfa Romeos has joined them as instant allies.
  • What Do You Do With Two Garbooned Alfetta Engines? [Thunderhill Lemons]

    Anyone who followed our coverage of the Altamont 24 Hours of LeMons race in October knows that we really, really enjoyed seeing a 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta participating in the race. And not just participating, but contending ... well, until a blown head gasket sidelined the car. So we were overjoyed to find that the California Mille Alfetta was here at Thunderhill, with another Alfetta on the track as well. Two Alfettas! We must be living right! Unfortunately, within a couple hours of the starting gun, both cars had dead engines: one busted oil pump drive, one thrown rod. Naturally, the two teams got together to make one good car... Here's an Alfa engine- looks fine from here! Oh... hold on... is that hole supposed to be there? So these guys are going to pull both engines, build a good one out of the parts, and put it in the best chassis. We're not sure which one that is, since everyone was in too much of a wrenching frenzy to chat much to us. This is why we love this race so much...
  • Ecurie Ecrappe Shows LeMons Flag at the Concorso Italiano [Racing]

    One of the coolest cars at the 24 Hours of LeMons race at Altamont was #99, the 1971 Alfa Romeo Spider built and operated by Team Ecurie Ecrappe. This aerodynamically optimized Italian machine did very well at first, leading the pack for a while on the first day, but mechanical woes put it in 52nd place by the time the race ended. But that's not all there is to the story- it turns out Ecurie Ecrappe entered the car in the prestigious Concorso Italiano car show, where (we hope) it scandalized the date-coded, numbers-matching crowd. Team member and fellow East Bay gearhead TheEastBayKid has this to say: With your ongoing LeMons coverage, I thought you might be interested in our team's trip to Concorso Italiano with our LeMons car. The standards for that event are surprisingly un-hard to meet--you go online, and they ask for year, make, model, and color. Our entry read like this: 1971 Alfa Romeo Spider Black We raced the car in July, showed it at Concorso, and raced it again in October. It...
