We were confused and astounded at the claim of a soft top on the Webasto LigHT Concept weighing in at a mere 28 lb., so we decided to go check it out for ourselves. Seems the innovators at Webasto made the simple into reality. They just took everything out of the top that wasn't needed. All the rollover protection is transferred to the integrated headrest roll hoops and the latches are mounted on either the windscreen or the trunk. The roof itself works sort of like one of those wood-cut snakes you played with as a kid. The ones that get rigid as it folds onto itself, and then when folded onto the trunk it lays down without argument. galleryPost('webastolightgeneva', 12, 'Webasto LigHT Concept In Action At Geneva'); Seems to work pretty well as the top is pretty tough when up, but have no idea how this would work if windows got involved in the equation, or high speed, or anything a normal top has to put up with. Hey, it looks cool in profile and it has that neat super...

Ever feel like you need to have the wind in your hair while pulling 8,000 RPM powerslides in your BMW M3? Well now you can with the addition of the BMW M3 Convertible. The sleek and speedy vert has been unveiled after a long rumor mill process and the swiftly shifting hardtop is here to show the goods. While it gets 100% of all the things that make the M3 on it's own a fun little toy, the thing we noticed the most will be the something the golf playing lawyers who buy them. galleryPost('2009BMWM3Convertible', 6, '2009 BMW M3 Convertible'); Looks at that trunk space with the top down. One could barely fit a golf club in the trunk, let alone many golf clubs, so many in fact to necessitate the use of a golf bag. We dig that sporty body work and the lusty power train, but come on, if we can't get two golf bags at least , we just can't even imagine putting up with this car.

This is highly a conceptual design, but Webasto is going balls-to-the-wall trying to develop an ultra-light roof. The soft-top on the LigHT concept weighs in at a very low 28 pounds. The designers, the Italian Istituto Europeo di Design, is calling this the "roof of the future," which may be a bit of an overstatement, but regardless having a 28 pound soft-top is pretty nice. galleryPost('webastolight', 3, 'Webasto LigHT Concept'); The roof is made a new mixture of materials capable of the lightened weight. The car itself was inspired by the Fiat 124 Sport Spider from the 1970s. The Webasto LigHT concept will be shown off at the Geneva Motor Show. [ Tuvie ]
