newVideoPlayer("PreciseBMW_Jalopnik.flv", 494, 280,""); Ze Germans are all about über-precision. So why is it that they don't even have a properly functioning set of perpetual motion balls? We found these at the BMW stand at the New York Auto Show , and our first thought was the Bavarians had busted their balls. But it turns out that these are supposedly part of some ironic demonstration of some sort of BMW safety somethingoranother. It's a bit confusing, but we still think the SLR 722 GTR parking struggle over at the Mercedes stand was a bit more embarrassing.

A committee of fat old men "experienced auto journalists" (i.e not us) have named the Mazda2 as the world car of the year. Just beating out the Ford Mondeo and Mercedes C-Class in a thoroughly interesting, relevant and credible competition. Additionally, all three finalists for World Green Car Of The Year were diesel powered, with the BMW 118d Efficient Dynamics winning. The Audi R8 surprised no one by receiving the cardboard pyramids representing both the World Car Design Of The Year and World Performance Car awards. galleryPost('WCOTY08', 6, 'World Car Of The Year');

Before calling his booth babes forth to pull the silk sheet from the CS Concept - a car that was first unveiled in Shanghai almost a year ago - the BMW Exec said that the reason he liked the New York Auto Show was that it give people a chance to see stuff they've already seen, again. We hope you agree with him, because here's he CS concept, again. Allegedly, the CS will form the basis for the design of future luxury models. However, we're beginning to think that they'll simply 'unveil' it at every car show indefinitely into the future. galleryPost('bmwcsconceptusa', 6, 'BMW CS Concept');

For those that need to see an M3 Convertible on American soil to believe it really exists, BMW just unveiled it in New York. The 414bhp, V8 supercar will set you back $65,700, a hefty $11,000 premium over the sedan and $8,000 more than the coupe. That extra chunk of change will get you a folding hardtop, the wind in your hair and a higher weight. The sedan and coupe will be available in dealers next week, the convertible later this year. Let's hope none of you are silly enough to pay $100,000 for one. galleryPost('m3convertibleny', 6, 'BMW M3 Convertible in NYC');

BMW just announced that it's going to increase the number of vehicles it produces at its plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina by 50% by 2012. This will take the total number of cars produced there per year to 240,000. This means an additional investment of $750 million will be made in South Carolina and 500 additional employees will be added. Vehicles produced there include the X3 , X5 and Z4 . The next generation X3 and new X6 will be added to that list. The US is BMW's most important market, with nearly one quarter of all vehicles it produces being sold here.

There's something fishy going on at BMW this morning. We're pretty sure what you see here is just the BMW CS Concept that was shown in Shanghai last year, but some part of us is wishing it's the new luxury flagship that's allegedly being developed along the concept's lines, or maybe even the 2010 5-series . We'll see at 11:10 when the wraps come off. galleryPost('nycbmwsecret', 6, 'Secret NY BMW');
