newVideoPlayer("Furai_Running.flv", 475, 376,""); You thought you had seen the last of the 2008 Mazda Furai concept didn't you? We certainly had enough coverage on the lusty concept that didn't make Popular Mechanics' Top 10 New Cars of Detroit list. What with the teaser photos , track video , live reveal shots , and super sneaky close ups - but no, we're not done yet. How about video of the ethanol powered Nagare-gasm running on the floor of the Detroit Auto Show? Would you like that? Yeah, we thought you would.

Concept cars are notorious for rarely making it to the street. But what about the enticing features that designers include in their dreamy visions of our automotive future? We combed through the files we've amassed at the show this week and come up with five features that don't stand a chance in hell of ever escaping the shimmering incubator of the world's design studios. Count 'em down, after the jump. 5.) Saab 9-4x BioPower: Stainless-steel ski rack. Sure, it looks fine, and having the titanium-carbon-fiber Rossignols on the roof is just too risky these days. But where will the douchebag couple who spends the eight hours to Vermont talking about their trip to St. Bart's sit? Think about it. 4.) Saturn Flextreme: Clamshell trunk. While shellfish and trunk space are both well liked, combining the two is a pipe dream that'll, unfortunately, never be fulfilled. Saturn designers deserve credit for out-of-the-mollusk thinking, though. Hiho! 3.) Lincoln MKT: Those massive...

Not that it's a surprise to anybody, but the new RX-8 looks a lot like the preview shots we brought you earlier. Shown in a very Subaru shade of blue, the RX-8 is in fact destined for an update. Most of the changes happen in the nose with slightly revised headlights, a new grill treatment, the hood has a bigger rotary shaped indent, and of course the trend of the day - faux side vents. Sadly those side vents can only be attributed to additional horsepower of the psychological kind. Check out the live galleries and there's an exhaustive press release below the fold. galleryPost('rx8liveext', 6, '2009 RX-8 Live in Detroit'); galleryPost('rx8liveint', 6, '2009 RX-8 Interior Shots'); 2009 MAZDA RX-8: FURTHER EVOLUTION FOR THE ROTARY REVOLUTION Launched in 2003, the Mazda RX-8 hit the global market with a serious bang. We just can't get enough of the 2008 Mazda Furai concept. We brought you preview pics , video , and live floor shots . That's all well and good, but thanks to some overzealous designers, we now have pictures showing off the whole enchilada. Engine bay, interior, detailed close ups... we want it; we want it bad. galleryPost('furaiengine', 6, '2008 Mazda Furai Engine bay'); galleryPost('furaiint', 6, '2008 Mazda Furai Interior'); galleryPost('furaideet', 9, '2008 Mazda Furai details');

We brought you the first shots of the 2009 Mazda Furai Concept a couple weeks ago, and some hot video yesterday, now we've got photos from the floor of the 2008 Detroit Auto Show . In person the Furai is poetry even without the motion - long and low and wide, it is a monster in Nagare clothing. All it needs is me in a matching fire suit and helmet. galleryPost('furaidetroit', 12, '2008 Mazda Furai Live Shots'); galleryPost('mazdafuraidetroit', 6, '2008 Mazda Furai Preview Pictures');

newVideoPlayer("furai_video.flv", 475, 376,""); The three rotor banshee planted in the 2009 Mazda Furai Concept is at full scream in this track time video at Leguna Seca. We're eagerly awaiting the unveil at the Detroit Auto Show on Monday, but it's a slim chance we'll see it blasting around like this on the frozen roads of Detroit. If you listen closely when the driver steps off the throttle, you can hear yourself wet your pants. galleryPost('mazdafuraidetroit', 6, '2009 Mazda Furai Preview Pictures');

So we were all teased with the Mazda Furai teaser photo a few weeks back -- that's the concept car we'll be seeing from the brand all about the "Zoom-Zoom" in two weeks at the Detroit Auto Show . Now we can be teased with the full press shots thanks to Automobile letting the cat out of the bag a wee bit early (and thanks to Edmunds dropping the veil completely). So take a gander at the press shots below and hit the jump to again find out what we know about this concept car cum Courage C65 chassis. galleryPost('MazdaFuraiDetroit', 3, ''); "Furai takes Mazda's unique Nagare (Japanese for "flow") design language a step further as it is translated into a concept car based on an American Le Mans Series (ALMS) racing car. The car utilizes the Courage C65 chassis the company campaigned in the ALMS series only two seasons ago, and the 450-hp three-rotor rotary engine that distinguishes it from anything else on the track."

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/Toyota_reveals_A_BAT_El_Camino_like_concept_pickup_truck'; This is it -- whatever "it" is. Actually "it" is Toyota's newest concept they'll be bringing to the Detroit Auto Show in two weeks, the A-BAT Concept Pickup Truck. And A-BAT is more than just a winged rat, it's actually, as we're told by our friends at PickupTruck.com , an acronym for "Advanced Breakthrough Aero Truck." That's a name that has us kinda scratching our heads. How did Toyota name a concept vehicle a "breakthrough" when it looks like the love child of some sort of menage-a-truck involving the Honda Ridgeline, the Chevy Avalanche and the Toyota Prius. Yeah, you heard us -- the Toyota Prius -- you know, for that tint of green. But despite what appears to our eyes as the obvious Ridgeline-esque styling, Toyota claims the look of this unibody-platformed concept truck is unique -- based on "the 'trapezoid'...

Looks like the General's bringing the big guns out at their " GM Style " pre-Detroit Auto Show party. That's right, they'll be bringing the "racing inspired" Hummer H3R concept -- that's the LS7 7.0-liter V8-powered concept first seen at the SEMA show in October -- and the Opel Corsa OPC hot-hatch right up on stage at the show before the big show. Also, Maroon 5 will be joining the already announced Mary J. Blige in the non-auto portion of the show. But who really cares about that? Full press release after the jump. galleryPost('07semaHummerH3R', 2, 'Hummer H3R Concept'); Maroon 5 Joins the Stage at GM Style GM also announces Opel Corsa OPC and HUMMER H3R concept, and fashions by Royal Underground and Argyle, will be featured at pre-North American International Auto Show bash DETROIT - Pop/rock/soul sensation and two-time Grammy Award winner Maroon 5 will perform in GM Style, an invitation-only celebration of cars, music and fashion that...

Nissan's long strip tease over the new Forum concept is finally over. We had a chance to touch the new Forum in Vegas at an embargoed event one evening and we can tell you, it's -- umm -- a minivan. Yeah, let's be honest, it's hard to get excited about a concept minivan. And although we applaud Nissan for wanting to design a concept vehicle that's unique and different, no matter what hyperbolic verbiage you use -- whether it's "the next revolution in family transportation" or a "family passenger vehicle" -- it's still a minivan. But hey, they've done a really good job of proving they've got some technology that could step their own bar up to compete with Chrysler. I mean check out those seats -- they actually swivel and stuff! But somehow we think a design that de-emphasizes a B-pillar is probably not the best idea for the safety-minded minivan buyer. But what do we know, right? Fully breathless press release after the jump. galleryPost...

Now that Land Rover has deemed Jalopnik an embargo-break free media outlet , we've been treated with the ability to treat all of our readers to some high-resolution photos of t he new Land Rover LRX concept five days ahead of the official embargo. As many of you know already, this is the new baby Land Rover set to debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month. It's a bit more muscular than your average Freelander and features enough interior lighting to light the Singapore GP. In addition to the 20-inch show alloys, the car is designed to be both lightweight and partially recyclable. Full details below: galleryPost('landroverlrxconcept', 9, 'Land Rover LRX Concept Car'); Land Rover unveils a vision of its future at the NAIAS (Detroit Show) in January 2008, with the world debut of the LRX concept - a bold evolution of Land Rover design that signals the brand's shift into new areas of the market, while remaining true to its core values. Apparently the Tuetonic magazine site of auto motor und sport didn't quite get the memo sent out by Land Rover on images of the Detroit-bound LRX concept car from the brand still very much tied to Henry Ford's baby in Dearborn, MI. They've put out ten shots of the new concept along with a whole mess of info about it to add to the one shot we'd already seen earlier this week. We'll give you the link and a bit of detail so you know what you're looking at. Again, it's all German to us, so what do we know. [ auto motor und sport ]

Mazda's just revealed the above shot of the Mazda Furai concept vehicle along with the release below the jump detailing the Japanese-by-way-of-Dearborn automaker's game plan for the 2008 Detroit Auto Show next month. Want to know what the Furai is? Well, if the track background behind the cockpit doesn't give you some indication, here's a paragraph lifted directly from the press release: "Furai takes Mazda's unique Nagare (Japanese for "flow") design language a step further as it is translated into a concept car based on an American Le Mans Series (ALMS) racing car. The car utilizes the Courage C65 chassis the company campaigned in the ALMS series only two seasons ago, and the 450-hp three-rotor rotary engine that distinguishes it from anything else on the track." C65 chassis and a 450-HP rotary? Yes, please. Oh, and did we mention they'll be showing off the "heavily revised" Mazda RX-8? Waiter, would you mind adding one of those to...
