This is Down On The Street Bonus Edition , where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the Island That Rust Forgot . I just got back from Denver, where I photographed a few cool old cars parked on the street, including a very nice early Mini… but you don't get to see that today. Instead, you get something even better! Denver-based Kitt and EJacobs continue to send in good stuff found in their neighborhoods (south and northwest Denver, respectively), and today we'll be admiring a trio of vintage Detroit wagons that continue to remind us that SUVs didn't always reign supreme in the family-hauling department. Make the jump for many, many photos. galleryPost('DOTSBEDenverWagonsTop', 6, 'Vintage Detroit Wagons Down On The Denver Street Part 1'); The Olds and Plymouth wagons were shot by Kitt . galleryPost('DOTSBEDenverWagonsOlds', 29, '1966 Oldsmobile Wagon Down On The Denver Street'); galleryPost('DOTSBEDenverWagonsPly'...

This is Down On The Street Bonus Edition , where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the Island That Rust Forgot . Key West, Florida, gave us the excellent Trusty Justy , and now has photographed a pair of VW Transporter competitors that still work for a living. Jump away to see all the photos and read his description. galleryPost('DOTSBEKeyWestFCVans', 6, 'Forward Control Vans Down On The Florida Street'); Hey man, Down in Key West I found two classic, American forward-control vans still rolling daily and parked on the street. You can find the photos attached.It's a GMC Handivan and a Corvair Greenbrier, two classic examples of America combating the Volkwagen Type 2. I saw the Greenbrier cruise past me the next day, driven by a woman no less. Cool! P.S: I also included a pic of the very...interesting...Key West Bible Class official van, which is very, very professional. DOTS FAQ

This is Down On The Street Bonus Edition , where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the Island That Rust Forgot . Today we're going to show that old GM cars don't always dissolve into reddish stains on the pavement, even in a damp climate like the Pacific Northwest. Zeet has photographed this pair of very solid-looking examples of The General's products for us; note that all eight hubcaps are still present! galleryPost('DOTSBEOlyGMs', 3, '1963 Pontiac Bonneville And 1974 Chevrolet Nova Down On The Olympia Street'); DOTS FAQ

This is Down On The Street Bonus Edition , where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the Island That Rust Forgot . We're heading back to New York City , where Dolo54 shot this interesting pair of vehicles for us a couple months back. Yes, a vintage XKE and a jaw-dropping van that rivals even the Spinellimobile for the world-record Custom Van Awesome-O-Meter™ reading. Make the jump to see all the photos and read Dolo54's description. galleryPost('DOTSBENYCJagVan', 3, 'Jaguar E Type And Custom Van Down On The New York City Street'); Thought I'd send you these pics even though they didn't turn out so well. Sorry about the terrible camera phone quality. It was raining on/off and the light was terrible. The van was on Prince St. in Soho, it may be there again and I'll try to get better pics. I think it was an 80s Econoline, but I'm not sure what model. All labels were shaved. The rear lights look custom. The stained...

This is Down On The Street Bonus Edition , where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the Island That Rust Forgot . Last weekend I was in Denver again, and I ended up on the streets of Golden for the Golden Super Cruise. It was early evening and I didn't have my good camera, so I figured I only had time to shoot a few cars before l ran out of light. We've all seen nine million Camaros and Chargers and deuce coupes, so I figured I could skip that stuff. "I'll just shoot AMCs and any Chrysler product with huge fins," I said, and that's just what I did. Jump away for the rest. galleryPost('GoldenAMCsTop', 6, 'AMCs And A Finned Chrysler At The Golden Super Cruise'); They make Coors beer in Golden, and the brewery is a Manhattan Project-scale operation that looms over the town and fills the air with the smell of yeast. Last Saturday, however, hydrocarbons filled the air! I found this '68 or '69 AMX (AMC experts...

This is Down On The Street Bonus Edition , where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the Island That Rust Forgot . We love old Cadillacs, of course, and we love them best of all when they're defying the odds and surviving on the street in The Rusty States Of America. Ironclad Lou shot this mean-looking Caddy in Quincy "City of Presidents" Massachusetts. Jump away for more! galleryPost('DOTSBECaddog', 3, '1964 Cadillac Series 62 Down On The Quincy Street'); Greetings, Murilee. I email you from the great commonwealth of Massachusetts. To be more specific, Quincy. Just south of Boston, and home to two of the first six Presidents of the United States, hence the nickname. I have come across a very DOTS-worthy vehicle on the streets of my fair city. I'm guessing, but it appears to be an early sixties example of a Cadillac Series 6200. The fact that the rust and potholes around here haven't sent it to the crusher already...

This is Down On The Street Bonus Edition , where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the Island That Rust Forgot . The Rambler American-based Renault Torino wasn't the only license-built foreign car built in Argentina back in the day. SIAM Di Tella made a deal with BMC to build the MG Magnette in Argentina, resulting in the Di Tella Magnette 1622. Daniel of has photographed this '66 down on the Buenos Aires street for us; he didn't provide a lot of details, but the car speaks for itself: 42 years old, British engineering, and still going strong! galleryPost('DOTSBEBAMagnette', 3, '1966 Di Tella Magnette 1622 Down On The Buenos Aires Street'); DOTS FAQ

This is Down On The Street Bonus Edition , where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the Island That Rust Forgot . It's been a while since we've seen one of Denver's many cool street-parked cars, and what better place to look for one than right in the heart of the Democratic National Convention madness downtown? That's what Kitt thought, so she braved the protesters and riot-ready cops to shoot this '61 Lancer. Now, we can't say for sure, but speculation (well, my speculation, anyway) has it that Barack Obama plans to drive this car for the rest of the campaign, to show that he's a man of the people! Make the jump for more of my crackbrained theory political insight (and the rest of the photos of this fine automobile). galleryPost('DOTSBEDenverLancer', 3, '1961 Dodge Lancer Joins The Democratic National Convention'); See, the Lancer was Dodge's innovative compact car for '61, based on the new Valiant...

Charles W. Cushman traveled the globe from 1938 to 1969, shooting tens of thousands of photos of what he found interesting. Fortunately for us, he thought scenes with cars were interesting; Indiana University has scanned all the photos, tagged them, and made them available to the public online. Thanks to 57Sweptside for the tip! [Indiana University] galleryPost('CushmanPhotos', 3, 'Car Photos From The Charles Cushman Archive');

This is Down On The Street Bonus Edition , where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the Island That Rust Forgot . Now that we've started the week with a French DOTSBE car, we might as well keep it going with another. JasonTorch (of Team Make:Way fame) was up in Oregon and found this miraculously unrusty-looking Caravelle parked on the Portland street. Make the jump to see the rest of the gallery and hear what Jason has to say about this fine piece of French automotive history. galleryPost('DOTSBEPortlandCaravelle', 3, 'Renault Caravelle Down On The Portland Street'); I always loved these, the French Karmann Ghias. This one certainly seemed to be a daily driver, in an unassuming grey that camouflaged it perfectly with the dank skies of Portland. I bet from the right angle all you'd see are lights and chrome. Peugeot 404s are everywhere- why, even Ho Chi Minh drove one! It doesn't come as a shock that plenty were sold in the Netherlands, but we don't expect to see such a well-preserved example still surviving on the streets of Amsterdam after all these years. Reader James spotted this one during a recent trip to Yurp, and he did us all the favor of capturing it for our Jalopnified enjoyment. galleryPost('DOTSBEAmsterdam404', 3, 'Peugeot 404 Down On The Amsterdam Street');

Here's a car you don't see parked on the street every day, particularly if you live in a crowded city with tough parking. The list price on the '62 Bentley S3 was $16,355, about $250 less than a brand-new Ferrari 250GT California would have cost you that year... and about the same as six Ford Galaxies. Reader Michael had his camera at the ready when he spotted this dignified old gent parked in the Lincoln Park neighborhood; make the jump to read his description and see the rest of the gallery. galleryPost('DOTSBEChicagoBentley', 3, '1962 Bentley S3 Down On The Chicago Street'); 1962 Bentley S.3 - Down on the street in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL. Lazily parked behind a construction debris dumpster and includes not only a nice little door ding, but a spatter of bird do-do as well. Daily driver??? Who knows....Not afraid to be driven and parked in an insanely street parking challenged neighborhood.

You don't often see a '67 Firebird convertible parked on the street, but SoCal-based SOS10 has managed to find what appears to be a Ram Air 400 car, complete with hood tach, Halibrands, and a layer of flower petals. Yes, that's a tow-away notice on the windshield, and no, we don't like the idea of this jewel getting trashed in a tow yard full of abandoned Achievas and Excels. Make the jump to see all the photos and get SOS10's description. galleryPost('DOTSBEOrangeBird', 3, '1967 Pontiac Firebird Down On The West Hollywood Street'); Not much to say.. but on my way to Trader Joe's in West Hollywood, I noticed this car covered in orange blossoms... but I felt a good Karma here....Yes, I know, I'm an old fashioned romantic type! Denver has the Mercedes-Benz Feuerwagen , but San Francisco can hold its head up high when it comes to German Emergency Vehicle bragging rights, with this 60s Opel Blitz that Akier photographed in the Sunset District. Make the jump to see the entire gallery and read Akier's description. galleryPost('DOTSBESFBlitz', 9, 'Opel Blitz Down On The San Francisco Street'); I live right down the street from this beaut. I tried to get ahold of the owner to get some background information, but no dice.This one seems to have been converted into a camper of some sort - looks like cabinets inside in the back. Check out that medieval-looking tow hitch! I think the grille is a replacement, because all the photos I've found (about 4) show a big "blitz" Opel lightning logo in the middle. Anyways, this thing does move at least, because it disappears come street cleaning time, and makes its way back. Trying to find information on these things is like pulling teeth - here is...

Even though 1964 was the last model year for Studebakers built in the United States, Canadian production continued through 1966. I'm guessing this Lark Cruiser, which Project Car Hell Song creator Jack Astro photographed while visiting Victoria, B.C., is a '65, but it could be a '64 or a '66. Jack also shot a pretty cool Mars Base-style Boler trailer in the same lot; make the jump to see the complete gallery. galleryPost('DOTSBEVictoriaStude', 3, 'Studebaker Cruiser and Boler Trailer Down On The Victoria Street');
