  • Car Security

    Car Security

    June 27th, 2008 by Shenron

Your car is probably the second biggest purchase of your life (besides your home) and while many vehicles are insured against fire, theft and collision, no one wants to go through the hassle of having their beloved vehicle damaged in any way. For those that love their cars, prevention is usually the best deterrent against damages or loss of your vehicle and by implementing some car security products, you can severely reduce the risks of damage.

    Car Alarms

Car alarms are now found installed on most vehicles or an option on many new vehicles. In addition, for those older vehicles that do not have a car alarm, adding an after market product is easy, affordable and effective. Obviously, a car alarm won’t make your car impossible to steal, but it will be an extremely effective deterrent. Any amateur will not be able to steal your vehicle without at least having the car alarm go off and hopefully waking a few of the neighbors. Car alarms work because they bring attention to the vehicle. Whether it is in a parking lot or parked on a quiet city street, the deterrent of the car alarm has been proven effective

    Satellite Tracking Devices

With GPS products now being very popular, one of the ways that you can thwart your car being stolen and never recovered is to place a small GPS tracking device in your vehicle. If your vehicle is ever stolen, you can quickly pinpoint the location of the vehicle on a digital map. Many satellite tracking devices also automatically contact the local police department to help recover your vehicle quickly before any additional damage can be done. While this technology is great for the average car, if you have a luxury vehicle or exotic sports car, this security device should be a mandatory purchase.

    Steering Wheel Locks

A low tech car security device that is a great deterrent is a steering wheel lock. These easy to spot and effective items make it very difficult and nearly impossible to drive the vehicle by keeping the steering wheel forced into a limited range of motion. Of course, someone with a tow truck or flatbed can still steal your vehicle, but for the ordinary thief that doesn’t have a huge selection of tools at his disposal, steering wheel locks make stealing a car a very tedious and risky proposition. Steering wheel locks are not only low tech, but very affordable with prices starting at about $20.

  • Car Safety

    Car Safety

    June 27th, 2008 by Shenron

We depend on our cars everyday to transport the most important things in our lives- our family. And while car safety has improved over the years there are many items that can be extremely effective in helping your family be safe in your vehicle.

    Tire Pressure

While tire pressure is not an innovation or new car safety technology it is one of the things that you can easily do to make your vehicle much more safer and even more economical to drive due to gas savings. Many vehicles are driven with under inflated tires. Under inflated tires can cause a wide range of problems including handling when turning and handling at high speeds. The problem is that many people are unaware that their vehicle has under inflated tires. Every family should take the simple step of checking tire pressure regularly. You can find the tire’s correct pressure rating on the side of the driver’s door or in the car’s user manual. Most gas stations that have air pumps also have an air gauge to check the pressure. However, you can spend $10 and purchase an air gauge for your self.

    Hands Free Communication Devices

It’s a fact that driving your vehicle while talking on the phone with your handset up to your ear can be extremely distracting. The more distractions to the driver, the less the driver is able to focus on the road and drive defensively. One way to limit (but not eliminate) the distraction of talking on the phone while driving is with a hands free device.

Hands free devices can be quite simple to use. Many are just headphones or a head set that plugs into your phone’s earphone jack. This enables the driver to carry on a conversation with both hands on the wheel. For phones that have Bluetooth technology, a form of short range wireless technology, you can set up a speaker and microphone in your vehicle to listen to and talk to those that call you in your vehicle. Many car manufacturers today are installing these systems in new cars, or you can spend a couple of hundred bucks for after market products.

    Rear Parking Sensors/Rearview Cameras

Many new car manufacturers are implementing digital camera technology into their vehicles. Using DVD/Navigational screens already installed, small digital cameras (similar to webcams) are strategically placed in the rear or side of the vehicle to give the driver a clear view of what is behind him or her. Great for larger vehicles such as SUV’s and minivans, these rear parking sensors/rearview cameras are perfect for those that find they have many blind spots. This can help reduce the incident of running over objects such as kid’s toys or hitting pedestrians behind you when backing out of a driveway or parking lot.

  • Car Moving

    Car Moving

    June 27th, 2008 by Shenron

If you are planning on relocating, one consideration will be what to do with your vehicle. For many people that are relocating long distances, whether to a new region or cross country, a long car drive is not the answer-especially if you have a family. While car moving is considered to be a pain in the neck for many families, there are several easy ways to accomplish this task.

    Auto Transport by Truck

For those that are moving their entire family including household belongings, one strategy is to simply ship your vehicle(s) along with everything else. Most moving companies offer this service, while based on distance, the cost of moving your vehicle(s) is usually reasonable. In most cases, auto transport works by having either a truck transporter carry several vehicles at a time or a smaller flatbed carrying one vehicle at a time. The price is usually affordable and the process usually takes less than two weeks (for instance transporting your vehicle cross country.

    Auto Transport by Rail

Another option is to have your vehicle transported by rail. This option is also very affordable, usually costing only a few hundred dollars. The convenience factor is great due to the fact that you don’t have to wait to take delivery of your vehicle and in many cases your family can ride on the same train that your car is being transported on.

    Driveaway Service

One of the cheapest ways to accomplish car moving is Driveaway service. Driveaway service is when you hire a company to find you a responsible driver to deliver your vehicle to your new destination. The driver is usually a person that would like to travel on a very low budget. They receive the free vehicle to drive to the new destination and only have to worry about fuel charges. For instance, if you are moving from New York City to Los Angeles, you can contact a Driveaway company to find a driver. The company usually charges you a small fee (for instance $300 to find a responsible driver). The driver receives use of the vehicle for free and only has to pay for fuel. You receive your vehicle in a short period of time for about 1/3 to 1/5 the cost of a typical truck transport.

No matter where you intend to move, you can easily bring your car along. While it usually isn’t practical to drive your vehicle cross country with your family when relocating, the above services make it easy, convenient and relatively affordable to bring your car along to your new home.
