The new Kia Forte appears to have success written all over it, that's assuming the car performs as good as it looks. The car will be powered by two 1.6L engines, one gas the other diesel. The oil-burner is the more powerful in that it puts out 128 horsepower, and the gas model offers up 121 horsepower. A 2.0 engine will be offered later. © Source: edmunds We need your comments below >>

Having already facelifted the Kia Sorento in 2006, Hyundai’s sister company Kia has begun testing the next-generation SUV in the hot deserts of the United States. As we can see from these pictures, the Sorento will be growing but not enough to accommodate three rows of seating, which will be left to the yet bigger Kia Borrego. In addition to the larger size, the Sorento is rumoured to move a little more upscale with an increase in price accompanied by better specification and bigger engines. We expect to have more news about the new Sorento before the year’s end. © Source: caradvice We need your comments below >>

After the current Sorento underwent its midlife facelift in 2006, Kia has now begun testing the second generation SUV as seen here in these latest shots taken in the American South West. In pursuit of more car-like feel, the Sorento will abandon its current body-on-chassis configuration in favor of a unibody platform that will also be shared by the Hyundai Veracruz. As seen in the photos, the Sorento will also grow in size but won’t accommodate three rows of seating. This will be reserved for the bigger Kia Borrego . Engines will include the same 2.4-liter and 3.3-liter V6, however, a revised 3.8-liter V6 with a six-speed automatic transmission could be made available later. Production will begin at Kia's new West Point, Georgia plant in 2009. © Source: worldcarfans We need your comments below >>

From an 11th place ranking in 1999, the Hyundai-Kia conglomerate has risen to become the fifth largest car manufacturer in the world. According to Automotive News, the 2008 Global Data Book shows that the group has sold 3,961,629 cars, and now has risen above the likes of Honda, Nissan, and the PSA group. “We are extremely proud of having achieved this goal in such a short period of time,” said Ik-Hwan Kim, Vice-Chairman and CEO of Kia Motors. “We have been stressing the value of our products over the last few years and our efforts have not gone unnoticed by the public or the industry, neither quantitatively or qualitatively. “ Kia will continue to focus on producing a new generation of quality vehicles with distinctive design to keep the momentum of our brand growing. As a top global automaker, we are set to move in new directions with continuous improvements in quality, design, eco-friendliness and brand innovation for years to come.” © Source: caradvice We need your comments below >>

The Kia Sportage will be undergoing a facelift for the 2009 model year, including minor updates to the front and rear fascias. We’re expecting slight revisions to the headlamps and taillights. In addition, our spies spotted some interior freshening — although they weren’t able to get good picture inside the Sportage. It’s also unclear if the crossover will receive any mechanical changes, such as new engines, transmissions, or chassis upgrades. The basic version of the Sportage ships with a 140 horsepower inline-four, while the more powerful V6 variant delivers 173 horsepower. The current iteration of the Sportage was introduced in 2005, after a two-year hiatus from the previous model. Watch for the freshened Sportage to arrive at dealerships during the third quarter of the year. © Source: leftlanenews We need your comments below >>

The European photographers snapped this new Korean car in the Swiss Alps a few days ago but admittedly had no clue as to what the car could actually be. The registration and camouflage clearly said “Hyundai” or “ Kia ” – but which model? Not to worry – we found out at last! A former Hyundai designer told us this: “I’m actually fairly certain that this isn’t the next [ Kia ] Picanto. It’s hard to tell scale from the pictures, but the car looks to upmarket to be a Picanto. It seems to have a panorama roof plus five-lug wheels that Kia or Hyundai never use on vehicles that small!” In regard to the size I’d say it’s the Hyundai SO of which a concept will be shown at the Paris show and which is a C-segment small MPV for Europe replacing the Matrix. But the camouflage and grille speak for Kia rather than Hyundai, so I reckon it’s the Kia version of the SO. I don’t know anything about it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Kia was developing such a car given the segment’s popularity in Europe.” We...

(from Kia Press Release) Kia Motors America (KMA) will add another vehicle to its line-up in 2008, the Soul crossover utility vehicle (CUV). Announced at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit that it will become a production vehicle, the Soul was originally unveiled as a concept car during the 2006 Detroit show. A collaborative effort between Kia’s design studio in California and design studio in Korea, it will go on sale at the end of 2008. “The Soul’s aggressive and youthful styling is raising the bar for vehicles in its segment, and we are excited that it will be joining the ever-expanding Kia line-up in 2008,” said Len Hunt, executive vice president and COO of KMA. “The flexibility, function and utility this vehicle provides, as well as its dynamic appearance, further demonstrate Kia’s commitment to producing vehicles that create passion with consumers.” The architecture of the Soul’s stance is reflective of its sporting and confident character. A wrap-around...

Are you ready for Kia to bare its Soul ? Having built up a reputation for producing cars that are dependable, practical and great value for money, the fast-growing Korean brand is now set to turn on the style with this daring SUV-inspired supermini. The Soul was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last month as three distinctive variants, each demonstrating the potential for personalisation that the production model will offer when it goes on sale in 2009. When the wraps were pulled off the three models on the stand at the Swiss exhibition, the Burner caught our eye in particular. So we went to Kia’s European headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany, for an exclusive first drive. Walking up to the Soul, it’s instantly clear that it doesn’t quite fit into the traditional supermini class. With its tall stance, upright rear and slightly raised ride height, it stands out from every other small car. Look closer and you will spot the bulging wheelarches, sloping roofline and distinctive side window profile...

(from Kia Press Release) The all-new Kia Kee sports coupe concept vehicle today made its U.S. debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Previously introduced at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in Germany, the Kee is an expression of the company's emphasis on design and incorporates styling cues that will establish a design language and identity for the brand. The Kia Kee (pronounced 'key') is a 4.3-metre long, four-seater, 2-door coupe with svelte, newly proportioned lines resulting from a slightly lengthened greenhouse. It is a new interpretation of a 2+2 coupe with an imposing road presence that demonstrates an uncluttered, pure and timeless execution and represents a new design ethos for Kia. Designed in Europe under the guidance of Kia 's Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, the sports coupe concept is named Kee for several reasons. "Kee refers to the English word 'key' as the coupe embodies design elements which will become...

Introducing the Korean Camaro, better known as the Kia KOUP concept , which has been unveiled at the New York International Auto Show. A surprisingly fresh and attractive offering from Kia , the KOUP concept signals a new design direction for the otherwise bland brand. Flared wheel arches, twin exhaust outlets and an aggressive aerokit leave no doubt that this concept aims to lead Kia’s assault on the performance car market. Carbon-fiber highlights are used extensively both inside and out, including on the stunning alloy wheels which cradle an impressive Brembo brake package. Under the bonnet is a powerplant to match its menacing appearance, featuring a twin screw turbocharged version of the 2.0-litre Theta II four cylinder engine producing an impressive 217kW of power and 391Nm at just 2,000rpm. The KOUP has more than enough potential on paper to compete not only with fellow turbocharged Korean sports car entrant, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0t, but also the flagship V6 Genesis Coupe....

Let’s face it: some products are just, well, boring. And there’s been no better case in point than the Kia Optima , a sedan that could get lost in a crowd, even if it were on its own. For 2009, however, the Korean carmaker aims to gain a little more interest and attention for the sedan by giving it a little more expressive design. The mid-cycle update of the 2009 Kia Optima made its debut at this year’s New York Auto Show , and it shows the clear influence of the Kia Kue concept vehicle. The update goes from head to tails, starting with a more distinctive grille that hints at the new face of the Kia brand. New headlights are more distinctive and should help get the 2009 Kia Optima more attention. A chiseled rear spoiler lip offsets brand new taillights. For 2009, the Optima can be shod in standard 16-inch or optional 17-inch wheels and tires. Inside, Optima gets an upgraded audio system, for 2009, including a new USB port, and standard Sirius Satellite Radio. The car’s inline-4 engine gets...

In an automotive context, don't practicality and economy exclude a pleasant driving experience? After all, the best fuel economy means the smallest, lightest car, unless you want to pay a premium for a hybrid. And not only are small cars small, and cramped, they're slow, noisy, and uncomfortable. Right? The second-generation 2008 Kia Rio5 SX debuted for model year 2006, in both sedan and Rio5 hatchback form. The sedan section covers basic, inexpensive transportation with the $11,515 base model. The LX adds popular amenities including air conditioning and a good audio system, with the SX getting sportier interior and exterior trim to top out at just over $15,000 with a four-speed automatic transmission, or a little over $14,000 with a five-speed stick. The Rio5 version debuted as the premium model in the line, available only in SX trim. For 2008, an LX model has been added. It drops the fancier interior trim, exterior foglamps and spoiler, and replaces the SX-spec 15-inch alloy wheels...

Redesigned for 2006 along with its four-door companion, the subcompact Rio5 continues as one of the least expensive cars sold in the U.S. Available in an LX and a sporty SX model, the Rio5 sports a good-sized wagon body, with good leg and head room up front and enough passenger room in the back for medium-sized kids. A fairly large cargo area tucks beneath the hatchback. Under the hood, a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with continuously variable valve timing delivers 110 horsepower. It can be teamed with either a five-speed manual gearbox, or a four-speed automatic. Power rack-and-pinion steering and four-wheel-disc brakes are standard, as are six airbags, including side, curtain and dual front airbags. Anti-lock brakes are optional. The LX version has a good list of standard features, like a CD stereo and 60/40 split rear seats. It also offers a Power Package that includes power locks, mirrors, and windows, keyless entry, and heated mirrors. The SX version gets revised interior trim, fog...
