  • Mercedes-Benz SLC Gullwing Spied

It has been a year since the first “C197” was spotted testing in the States, at that time it was a cobbled together mule with several Viper parts bolted on. This time – with obvious gullwing doors – this would be considered an early or developmental prototype. The “ Mercedes Gullwing” has often been referred to as the SLC , but we’re expecting the production version to have a new name and quite possible be under the AMG brand. While the details are sparse, the bright silver paddle shifter is visible directly behind the steering wheel. Whether this supercar will have six, seven or maybe even eight gears is still unknown. We can see a strip of LED, daytime running lights along the bottom of the headlight clusters. There also seem to be additional LEDs in the top section of the headlight cluster. Other details that pop out are the large cross-drilled, slotted rotors. Those large rotors will be stopping a set of Pirelli tires. We’re also pretty sure a large Mercedes star will be dead centre...
  • 2008 Mercedes CLC-Class

Mercedes yesterday launched the latest addition to its line-up - the CLC-Class . Naming it the Sports Coupe, Merc has declared it an entry level coupe in the three-pointed star’s local offerings. In an insight into the demographic this car is aimed at, Mercedes say that this car satisfies the “discerning requirements of young drivers looking for an athletic car.” Proudly boasting that there are greater than 1100 improvements over the last Sports Coupe we saw in Australia, Mercedes is pushing the economy barrow, with a claimed seven percent reduction in fuel consumption from its supercharged four-cylinder - combined cycle is 8.4-litres/100km for the automatic. But it also says that power is now up, to a healthy 135kW from the 1.8-litre engine. There’s also a new direct-steer system, which it’s claimed offers more agile cornering. Curiously, though, an automatic transmission is standard. If it’s supposed to be more sporty, wouldn’t the no-cost option manual have been a better fit? Not according...
  • Mercedes-Benz going turbo & hybrid

German giant Mercedes-Benz has announced today that it will introduce turbocharged engines across its entire model lineup by the end of 2010. The announcement comes amid upcoming legislation in Europe and the U.S. which is pushing manufacturers towards more CO2 friendly cars. The European Commission will need all German auto-manufacturers to reduce their average fleet emissions from 178 grams per kilometre to 138 g/km by 2012. Those that fail to meet the target wilo pay hefty fines. “All our vehicles will have turbocharged engines in series production by the end of 2010 at the latest,” Thomas Weber, Daimler board member responsible for research and development said Turbocharging petrol cars has till recently been a speciality of Japanese manufacturers, but demand for forced induction is growing as it provides a relatively cheap way to reduce fuel consumption without a performance loss. Fans of BBC’s TopGear would remember Jeremy Clarkson mentioning some time ago, that since the Mercedes...
  • Mercedes Benz R-Class spied

Mercedes-Benz ’s philosophy of making a car suited for nearly every single person on earth has worked to a degree, except for the R-class MPV. But as these pictures prove, Mercedes is apparently planing to give it another try with a new R-class . This prototype was snapped in the U.S. by our photographers today and wears massive camouflage on front and rear. It is rumoured the car will receive a front-end facelift in a style more we are more accustomed to, one that might resemble the more friendly B-class people mover. Whether or not a facelift will increase sales is still to be seen. There are currently four variants of the R-class available. The R280 CDI, R320 CDI, R350, R500. The car retails from $80,835 for the entry model and goes all the way to $129,111 for the 5.5-litre V8. © Source: caradvice We need your comments below >>
  • Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG spied

Spy photographers have captured exclusive photos of the all-new Mercedes E63 AMG - the high performance version of the as yet unrevealed Mercedes E -Class. Both cars are still at least two years away from showrooms, with the E-Class not due to make its first public appearance until the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show . Codenamed the W212, Mercedes will be abandoning its Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) system for the new E-Class in favour of conventional brakes. Although it will boast other features such as wet-weather disc wiping and wheel-selective cornering brake control on all variants instead. Optional ceramic-composite discs could be introduced from top-down, starting with the AMG model pictured here for the first time, on its way to the legendary German Nürburgring race circuit. Driver assistance will be a major theme for the new E-Class which is likely to feature lane-departure warnings, an eye-movement monitor, traffic-sign identification, road-condition sensors, and stability control...
  • 2009 Mercedes G-Class comes in for subtle revisions, more power

The Mercedes G-Class is like the tux and tails -- its remains in vogue no matter what's happening in the world around it. And like the tux, it looks pretty much like it did when it first arrived, and changes to it still don't come quickly. For the '09 model, the G has been given Mercedes ' new corporate face, so you can better associate it with that CL65 you've got parked next to it in the garage. The big news, though, is in the engine bay. The base V8 engine gets a whopping 90-horsepower bump from 292 to 382. Torque also gets seriously goosed from 336 ft-lb to 391. The boosted V8 and the AMG G55 get a much more modest boost of 7 horsepower for an even 500. Otherwise, the squared one gets new wheels and electronics, including a new Telematics system. There is no word yet on whether the celebrity chariot will come to the U.S., but we're sure Britney really wants one. © Source: autoblog We need your comments below >>

Auto Driven: Mercedes C 63 AMG Models tested: Mercedes C 63 AMG Saloon, Mercedes C63 AMG Estate Price as tested: £51,425 Range price: £51,425 - £52,675 Insurance group range: 19A Date and place tested: May 2008, Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, Leicestershire The C63 AMG boasts a seven-speed automatic gear box offering comfort, sport and manual settings and we work our way through each through the course of the day. Comfort mode supplies swift, effective gear changes. Sport mode makes those changes 30 per cent quicker with a double-declutching function blipping the throttle when shifting down. (This both sounds good and carries safety benefits as stability is enhanced – in particular when entering a corner). Paddle shift gears cut comfort gear change times in half and are great for the track – though switching to automatic means I am able to concentrate more on the steering and handling. There are three ESP settings and we start the day with full ESP which ensures the car’s technology “steps...

  • 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 Black Series

The most powerful Mercedes-Benz SL roadster ever goes on sale next year — and this morning Motor Trend spilled their guts on the details of the new 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 Black Series . The Black Series takes the AMG V-8 engine and twists it until it screams — upping horsepower by 66 to a total of 670 hp, MT reports, and torque to 738 lb-ft. Though it’s capable of 220 mph, Benz will limit top speed to 186 mph. The buff book estimates the SL65 Black Series can rocket to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. A five-speed automatic is the sole gearbox, and the Black Series gets a fixed roof, along with flared fenders made of carbon fiber. The electronic suspension in the standard SL range is dumped in favor of an adjustable coil spring suspension, and 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels are fitted. Overall the Black Series loses 570 pounds versus the stock SL-Class, but still pushes 4080 pounds. Expect a sticker price well over $200,000 this fall — and a relatively brief window of opportunity...

  • Mercedes Benz CL 65 AMG 40th Anniversary Edition

We're not sure if there are actually any more of these available to buy (only 40 were made total), but this special edition AMG Benz really shines. The Mercedes Benz CL 65 AMG 40th Anniversary Edition ( $295,000 ) offers the usual AMG upgrades — perfected styling and a 6.0-liter V12 Biturbo engine that's good for 612-hp — along with a paint finish that you won't find on any other production model car. Called Alubeam, the silvery paint is made with pigment particles that measure just 30 to 50 nanometers (much smaller than normal metallic paint), allowing it to coat the surface more evenly and reflect the light more intensively. Basically, it "gleams like liquid metal" and seems to be "stretched over the vehicle body like a metallic skin," as Mercedes says. © Source: uncrate We need your comments below >>
