  • 2008 Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the benchmark for luxury sedans. Completely redesigned just a year ago, the Mercedes S550 and S600 are superb automobiles. The S-Class cabins are among the most beautiful interior executions on the market today. These cars are loaded with technology yet the COMAND system is easier to operate than the systems from BMW and Audi. Underway, the S-Class cars are smooth, quiet, and powerful. The S-Class is made up of the S550 models, which come with a V8 engine, and the S600, which comes with a turbocharged V12. The S550 4MATIC adds the all-weather capability of all-wheel drive. Two AMG versions bring racecar performance to this big luxury sedan. All of them boast quick acceleration and are comfortable and stable at high speeds. Performance goes up with the more powerful engines, of course. The S600 can accelerate from 0-60 mph in about 4.5 seconds, according to Mercedes, which is very quick indeed. These cars handle remarkably well for big luxury sedans. They are...
  • Mercedes-Benz SLC Gullwing Spied

It has been a year since the first “C197” was spotted testing in the States, at that time it was a cobbled together mule with several Viper parts bolted on. This time – with obvious gullwing doors – this would be considered an early or developmental prototype. The “ Mercedes Gullwing” has often been referred to as the SLC , but we’re expecting the production version to have a new name and quite possible be under the AMG brand. While the details are sparse, the bright silver paddle shifter is visible directly behind the steering wheel. Whether this supercar will have six, seven or maybe even eight gears is still unknown. We can see a strip of LED, daytime running lights along the bottom of the headlight clusters. There also seem to be additional LEDs in the top section of the headlight cluster. Other details that pop out are the large cross-drilled, slotted rotors. Those large rotors will be stopping a set of Pirelli tires. We’re also pretty sure a large Mercedes star will be dead centre...
  • 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Today we’re publishing a fresh look at the 2010 Mercedes E63 AMG . Both the headlights and taillights of the next E-Class remain heavily disguised, while the side contours are again relatively distinguishable despite the heavier camouflage over both the front and rear wheel arches. As for the technical details of the 2010 Mercedes E63 AMG , power is expected to be supplied courtesy of the 6.2-Liter AMG V8 featured in the current variant, while 0-62 mph time should remain consistent with the outgoing model (4.5 seconds). Completing the package will most likely be the usual array of AMG-tuned goodness, including a high performance braking system, sport suspension system, etc. We will of course keep you posted as new details of the next E-Class emerge. © Source: emercedesbenz We need your comments below >>
  • Mercedes-Benz going turbo & hybrid

German giant Mercedes-Benz has announced today that it will introduce turbocharged engines across its entire model lineup by the end of 2010. The announcement comes amid upcoming legislation in Europe and the U.S. which is pushing manufacturers towards more CO2 friendly cars. The European Commission will need all German auto-manufacturers to reduce their average fleet emissions from 178 grams per kilometre to 138 g/km by 2012. Those that fail to meet the target wilo pay hefty fines. “All our vehicles will have turbocharged engines in series production by the end of 2010 at the latest,” Thomas Weber, Daimler board member responsible for research and development said Turbocharging petrol cars has till recently been a speciality of Japanese manufacturers, but demand for forced induction is growing as it provides a relatively cheap way to reduce fuel consumption without a performance loss. Fans of BBC’s TopGear would remember Jeremy Clarkson mentioning some time ago, that since the Mercedes...
  • 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK350

It looks like a Mini-Me version of the SL coupe/roadster. A face-lifted front end leads things off, with a splitter reminiscent of the SLR’s nosecone. New wings flank the M-B tri-pointed star in the grille, along with angular cuts under the bumper for a look that reminds one of the front wings on Lewis Hamilton’s F1 car. These in turn, lead the eyes back along sculpted sides to the short overhang rear bustle of the SLK . Along the way, new mirrors with revised directional indicators, and a pair of tinted taillights offer visual distinction to the body. And that’s just with the hardtop convertible roof stowed in the trunk. By the way, cargo space in the trunk is 10 cubic feet with the roof up, and 6.5 cubic feet with it stowed. An amalgam of old world craftsmanship coupled with high tech touches resides in the cockpit of the SLK. Newly aluminum-adorned speedo- and tachometers reside in front of the driver. Beautiful burled walnut trim and butterscotch tan leather surrounds the doors and...
  • 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class Roadster

For those who can’t quite stretch the budget for the new SL-Class, the next-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK Roadster offers a more conventional balance of price, performance and luxury. Following an extensive facelift incorporating around 650 newly developed components, the updated SLK three-model range begins at a far more obtainable $86,780 . The range begins with the SLK 200 KOMPRESSOR, which boasts a four-cylinder supercharged engine producing 135kW and peak torque of 250Nm. Engine refinements see fuel consumption drop by a substantial 1.2-litres to just 8.0L/100km, which in turn reduces CO2 emissions by 30 g /km to 190 g/km. The mid-range SLK 350 is powered by a high-revving 3.5-litre V6 engine developing 224kW and 360Nm, hitting red line at 7200rpm. When coupled with the 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission, the SLK 350 consumes just 9.2-litres per 100km - 1.9-litres less than the previous model. The pinnacle of the range is the SLK 55 AMG which features a familiar 5.5-litre V8 power plant...
  • 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class Review

Mercedes-Benz 's three-pointed star has long been synonymous with style and prestige, but it has historically taken a backseat to BMW's blue and white propeller as a symbol of driving excitement. This was certainly true of the first-generation SLK roadster, which offered decent straight-line speed and a then-novel folding hardtop but lost points due to its archaic recirculating-ball steering design and generally less-than-sporting demeanor. But when the folks at Mercedes set about redesigning the SLK a few years ago, they had evidently grown tired of playing second fiddle to their Bavarian rival in the minds of discerning drivers. That's the only way to explain the downright frisky performance of the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class roadster. Now in its fourth year of production, the current-generation SLK continues to offer sports-carlike handling, broad-shouldered power and the all-weather convenience of a retractable hardtop. Blessed with numerous updates for 2009, this aging...
  • 2008 Kicherer Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG

(from Kicherer Press Release) The prevailing notion that sports cars are just a pleasure for two was now contradicted by Kicherer . The renowned Mercedes embellishing specialists from Stockach have enriched the CLK 63 AMG , which is actually a two-seater, with a sporty back seat. When you take the north loop in less than 8 minutes with this bolide, all those seats will defnitely provide more fun – and adrenaline – than any rollercoaster. The radiator grill, already quite impressive on the standard version, is replaced by an even sportier variant made of carbon and featuring carbon fibre struts. The beautiful forged three-part wheel, Kicherer RS-1, also fulfls a double function as it is a visual and – thanks to weight reduction – also a sportive gain. The chassis – specially developed for Kicherer by DTM specialist H&R – also improves the racer’s cornering dynamics by several degrees. Since the Kicherer engineers have taken care of the engine, too, they have further underlined their...
