Big-bucks enthusiasts annoyed that they're not the only ones at the club with a Veyron can now ensure that they arrive in total exclusivity. That's because the one-off Maybach Exelero , commissioned by Fulda to act as a high-profile demonstrator for its tire line of the same name, is now for sale. The Exelero isn't some delicate flower of a show car. Based on the Maybach 57 and powered by a 700-horsepower version of that car's turbocharged V12, the Exelero reached 218 mph at Nardo. In many ways, Exelero represents what Maybach could have and should have been -- a place where daring styling and incredible performance could merge with extreme luxury to compete with Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Instead, while the marque's sedans clearly get the luxury part of the equation right, in terms of styling, they basically work in anonymity, looking like peculiar old S-Class sedans. Maybach has announced the production version of the Maybach Landaulet - the semi-convertible ultra-luxurious limousine, with a 620 ps V12 bi-turbo engine and a € 900,000 price tag. Probably Maybach hopes that such an over the top car will save the brands’ sagging sales. The first deliveries will start in the autumn of 2008. In November 2007, Maybach revived the aura of the grand carriages of days gone by with its Landaulet study. The response from the public to this masterpiece was overwhelming, so much so that Maybach decided to offer the hand-built Landaulet based exclusively on the customer’s own specifications. A limited number of vehicles will be built in the Manufaktur workshops in Sindelfingenover a restricted period. The finest materials are painstakingly handcrafted by select craftsmen to meet the customers’ exacting requirements - just as the discerning Maybach clientele would expect. After a long wait, Maybach 62 S Landaulet will actually take shape has the Daimler is intending to take it to the production level. It is an open-air version of the ultra-luxury 62 S sedan that was first shown in November. The global head of sales for Mercedes , Klaus Mair, has said, “ Maybach hopes the Landaulet will help draw more attention to the brand.” Technically speaking, the Landaulet is powered by the upgraded V12 engine that Maybach engineers developed for the Maybach 57 S and Maybach 62 S . Thanks to twin turbochargers and water intercooling, the V12 develops a maximum output of 612 hp and 738 pound-feet of torque. Roll over for more images and also to know its estimated price tag……….. A couple of weeks ago, we asked you to come up with your own strange Maybach s. You didn't disappoint - hell, some of them were downright disturbing - but it looks like tuner Brabus has trumped you all in Maybach-modding stakes. This is the Mercedes specialists' take on the Maybach 57 , a modified limo that Brabus claims to be the fastest ultra-luxury saloon in the world. How fast? 205.2mph, since you ask, a record just set at the Nardo test track in Italy. That's the same place that the Brabus Rocket - a tuned-up version of the Merc CLS - clocked 227mph last year, and it's the same bi-turbo 6.3-litre V12 that powers the warp-speed Maybach . It develops a massive 730bhp and, just as impressively, 811lb ft of torque. That figure has actually been limited from 974lb ft by the engine electronics? presumably to prevent the Brabus from ripping a big hole in the space-time continuum. In finest tuning fashion, the Maybach gets 21-inch alloys and has been lowered by 15mm, too. Don't...

It would seem from Maybach 's latest monstrosity that it's somewhat losing their way in the world. Not just in luxury saloons, but generally. Up the proverbial creek, sans paddles. Considering this likely turn of fates, we were wondering what you lot would come up with to save a luxury car manufacturer like this, should you find yourself in troubled waters? The same Laundaulet but with added gun turret in the rear? A six wheeled version with Jacuzzi? The only limit to this exercise in frivolity is your imagination, so go forth to your photoshop equipped Mac, or Etch-a-sketch, and send us your ideas. Quality is not as important as off the wall crazy, and the best will win some sort of prize if we can cobble together something from around Piers' desk.
