  • Volkswagen Golf GTI in Europe

After making its first public debut in concept form at the Paris Motor Show , Volkswagen has officially unveiled the production version of its new generation Golf GTI MkVI flagship. Building upon the dynamics and driver involvement which defined the spirit of its predecessors, the new model is faster, sharper and more powerful than any standard GTI before it. At its core is an advanced new 2.0-litre TSI engine producing 154kW and peak torque of 279Nm from just 1,700rpm, linked to either a six-speed manual or DSG gearbox. This allows the new Golf GTI to sprint from zero to 100km/h in just 6.9 seconds while returning impressive fuel economy of just 6.1 litres per 100km and emissions of only 170 g/km of CO2. Despite its slightly higher output compared to its predecessor, the new GTI is assured maximum traction with the addition of a new XDS electronically controlled differential as standard. This is coupled with new springs and dampers unique to the GTI which also lowers the ride height by...
  • Volkswagen world’s most economical car

While we don’t have a great deal of information available at this stage, we do know that Volkswagen is set to reveal the world’s most economical non-hybrid car to shareholders attending the 42nd annual general meeting of Volkswagen AG in Hamburg. The single-seater is capable of 0.91 litres per 100km (or 258mpg in the old measure) and can manage a top speed of 123km/h. The prototype, as shown here, was built in conditions of such great secrecy that little more is known about the car, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted after next week’s meeting. © Source: caradvice We need your comments below >>
  • Volkswagen CC Gold Coast concept at 2009 Chicago Auto Show

It made its debut over the summer at Pebble Beach. It showed up again in November at SEMA. And finally, we have a set of our own live shots of the CC Gold Coast concept because Volkswagen sent the swanky 4-door to Chi-town. The Gold Coast is doused in a rich-looking brown finish dubbed “Pepe Pepper” by DuPont, and it adopts a squat, muscular stance riding on a set of KW coilovers. 19-inch wheels fill out the wells nicely, and a full ground effects kit brings the look even closer to the ground. Veedub’s 280-horsepower 3.6 FSI V6 sits underhood, mated to a six-speed DSG. Stopping power on this looker is further enhanced with a set of the Audi R8’s ceramic discs in front. © Source: autofans We need your comments below >>
  • Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid

The Touareg hybrid should be available come next year, according to announcements from Volkswagen . The company will further expand its BlueMotion ecological range with this sports utility, which will add to the ever-widening range of hybrid vehicles available on the market. The Volkswagen sports utility will be the first hybrid engine vehicle from the company, equipped with a V6 TSI and a 52hp electric motor, for a combined performance of 333hp. A new eight-speed automatic transmission will also feature, resulting in consumption of about nine litres per 100km. Use of only the electric engine allows for speeds below 50 km/hr, while on full power (or boost mode) performance results in 374 hp and 550 Nm. More additions to the Volkswagen hybrid offering will take place in 2010, with the expansion of the Passat range, including an EcoFuel option of petrol-natural gas combination capable of 150hp and running 100 km with only 4.5 litres of petrol. A BlueTDI engine will also emerge with 140 hp...
  • 2009 Abt Volkswagen Golf VI

(from Abt Press Release) The new ABT Golf VI – the number one That’s what a winner looks like: since 1974 the VW Golf has dominated not just its vehicle class, but since then it has been Germany’s favourite car almost every year – a success story, which ABT has also co-written. This is because for just over 35 years the Allgauers have looked after the “Golfs”, from the very first one to the current new, sixth version of the long-time favourite. And as usual, ABT has once again had great success with it: with the tailor-made body-kit the designers from Kempten underline the fine character of the number one and give it an extra dose of sportiness. The front grill and spoiler, side skirts, rear spoiler and rear skirt make the ABT Golf VI seem dynamic and give it class. The components also suit the angled 4-pipe rear muffler and the AR and BR alloys perfectly. Anyone wanting the complete ABT look can also save money with the exclusive and complete exterior Package. This package also contains...
  • 2010 Volkswagen Golf R Series Turbo

In the recent past, VW’s answer for power junkies has been the R32—a GTI with a 3.2-liter V-6 shoehorned into its engine compartment. Heavier than the GTI and equipped with all-wheel drive, the R32 failed to deliver significant performance improvements despite its 250-hp rating. We liked it, but were disappointed by the marginal performance benefits over the base GTI. Meet the new 2010 Volkswagen R-series Golf . It will feature basically the same direct-injection 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that you find in the GTI, tuned to an impressive 270 hp. Power will be transmitted to all wheels. Zero-to-60 times should be in the low- to mid-fives, and while the regular GTI tops out at a drag-limited 149 mph, the new R version will hit its governor at 155, with a theoretical top speed 10 mph or so higher. Unlike the R32, the new R model will offer performance greater than the GTI’s, with the slightly increased weight and resistance of the AWD system easily offset by the leap in power and...
