Toyota executive vice president Masatami Takimoto has reportedly confirmed the brand is set to revive the MR2 nameplate as a hybrid performance coupe to rival Honda’s upcoming CR-Z. The hybrid MR2 will swap its traditional roadster shape in favour of a coupe design - effectively becoming a more exciting two-door version of the Prius. The new hybrid would feature a specially developed version of the Prius hybrid powertrain, adapted for performance, economy and low emissions coupled with a paddleshift transmission. “We are aware of the fondness with which the MR2 is held in the UK and Europe, and are developing a small hybrid sports car.” said Mr Takimoto speaking with Auto Express. “We have set a tough price point, as it will be easier to sell if it is affordable. It has to be fun to drive, too, which means the hybrid set-up must be different to the Prius’, with greater responsiveness.” While virtually nothing is known about how the new coupe will look, an artist’s rendering integrating...

Toyota Australia has released information on a new concept car in advance of its 2009 Melbourne International Motor Show debut. The Toyota HC-CV , is a sign of the near future when Toyota's down under facilities will begin production of a new Camry hybrid car. Toyota announced that the production version of the concept will likely have a four-cylinder petrol engine paired up with a large electric motor, making it a full-hybrid vehicle. Design-wise, the production model will also share many details with the new HC-CV. Also designed in Oz, the HC-CV is noticeable almost immediately by its vertical fog lights, headlights with a blueish hue, and its small-but-bold upper grille. Toyota logos have a blue background, and the rear LED lamps also have a blue tone. Some of the lights' lenses have a waterfall graphic on them as well. This concept car will be Toyota 's major presentation at the Melbourne International Motor Show this year. President Yasuda said, "The startling paintwork...

In the latest example Toyota has updated the 2009 Yaris for the Euro market. The update includes the availability of a new 1.3-liter engine with a six-speed manual, a minor facelift, and Toyota's Optimal Drive. The new 1.3-liter inline-four (Toyota calls it a 1.33-liter) is borrowed from the iQ mini car. It produces 100 hp and is attached to a six-speed manual transmission. It also boasts start/stop technology that shuts off the engine at idle to save gas. Toyota 's Optimal Drive is included as well. This improvement enhances combustion, saves weight and reduces friction all in the name of higher efficiency. Toyota says the combination achieves 55.4 mpg on the Euro combined cycle. The other two engines available are the gas-powered 1.0-liter three-cylinder, and a 1.4-liter diesel. Just to compare, in the U.S. we're stuck with the lone 1.5-liter four-banger with either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. It's just not fair. Pricing in the UK starts at £8,585 on...

Toyota and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced today a major Safety Recall involving 134,900 Yaris units. The Toyota Yaris recall refers to vehicle sold in the United States and built from 2006 through 2007. The Toyota Yaris is equipped with driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioners that retract the seat belts in case of a crash. The reason for this Toyota Yaris recall is that the pretensioner deployment may affect the sound insulating foam in the center pillar, following a collision. Toyota will inform owners of the involved vehicles with a Safety Recall notification via first-class mail beginning in early February. Owners are requested to contact their local Toyota dealer for repair. The repair will take approximately one hour, depending on the dealer's workload. © Source: zercustoms We need your comments below >>
