Well the Paris Motor Show surely is big stuff for the major European manufacturers. After quite a lot of them already announced to unveill new models or major facelifts for actual ones, you would think that no news could appear just a few days before the beginning of the show. Well guess again, this time Seat thought it was better late than never to begin the hype around its up coming mid-size sedan, the Exeo . The Dutch dealership has created this clever little teaser site which counts down until the beginning of the show in Paris. Besides this timer, several photos are depicted featuring some aspects of the new model. All of them point to the Exeo, Seat’s new mid size sedan, which is Audi’s old generation A4. As expected, the Exeo will be based on the old A4, after Volkswagen, the parent company of the two manufacturers decided that another rival for the Ford Focus or Opel Insignia wouldn’t hurt the sales. According to our overseas spies, this heavily disguised model is likely the new Seat Ibiza . Its large wheels and twin exhaust pipes suggest it could be the FR -variant - one below the flagship performance Cupra. A brief glimpse of the interior also reveals red stitching on a mix of leather and cloth seats. A segue between the normal range and the hot version, the FR Ibiza should boast a four-cylinder turbocharged engine from the Volkswagen family. In Europe, budget-minded pistonheads have a treasure trove of hot hatches to choose from, and SEAT will be adding another model to the mix later this year. Seat Ibiza Cupra will be officially unveiled in Paris, but Seat has dropped the first few images and a handful of specs ahead of its official unveiling in the City of Light this October. The Cupra is packing a twin-turbocharged, 1.4-liter TSI four underhood, sending 178 hp to the front wheels through a seven-speed DSG gearbox. Traction control and ESP are part of the package, along with a stiffer suspension, 17-inch wheels and bolstered buckets. New Seat Ibiza hatchback hasn’t even gone on sale in the UK, and already the Spanish car maker is showing off the three-door version- the Seat Ibiza SportCoupe. The Seat Ibiza SportCoupe has a unique profile – designed under the watchful eye of ex-Lamborghini design chief Luc Donckerwolke – and the first application of the VW Group's seven-speed DSG semi-automatic gearbox. The Seat Bocanegra was one of the stars of the 2008 Geneva motor show - but even so, few expected the Spanish manufacturer to put the car in production, relatively unchanged Despite the lower profile, the SportCoupe still offers adequate headroom up front – although taller drivers might struggle – and a reasonable boot. Draw up a list of the top hot-hatches in the world. The SEAT Leon Cupra may not be on it – although it might be – but the Volkswagen GTI will most definitely. At least it should, because the GTI is a performance icon, forged over decades of performance tempered with versatility and accessibility. And the current-generation GTI certainly lives up to the legend, burning rubber with the best Germany has to offer. SEAT , the Spanish manufacturer owned by Volkswagen, teased Geneva Motor Show visitors this year with the 3-door Bocanegra concept car. Today it unveiled the production version, which, as expected, takes on the Ibiza nameplate. The attractive 5-door had a lot of work done at the plastic surgeon's office, as the old car's bland lines have been transformed completely. Flat is definitely out, and the pair of diagonal character lines first shown on Bocanegra now adorn the new compact. In front, the Ibiza wears a new face -- one that European shoppers should get used to, as it's likely to trickle through to other SEAT s over time. While it sister company Audi continues to forge ahead in Le Mans-class racing under diesel power, the SEAT division is likewise launching an assault on the British Touring Car Championship with an oil-burning Leon TDI. The Spanish automaker is also launching a special edition Leon for the road to coincide with its competition counterpart's race debut. Mechanically, the limited-edition Leon FR550 is largely the same as the standard FR – one rung down on the SEAT performance ladder from the top-of-the-line Cupra – powered by the same two-liter turbodiesel on the Leon FR TDI. The details are what set the FR550 apart, carrying such touches as racing-style buckets seats, special badging, USB connectivity, 18-inch "Draco" alloys and a range of special colors. The turbodiesel Leon FR will hit sixty in 8.2 and return 39.2 mpg city/47 mpg highway. If they act fast enough, British customers can pick up one of the 550 examples of the FR550 being offered at a £400 premium over the standard...

SEAT is set to unveil the Bocanegra Concept tomorrow during the first press day of the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, and it previews the upcoming replacement for the production Ibiza model. For those familiar with the rather homely looking Ibiza, the Bocanegra (which literally means "black mouth") should be a welcome portent of things to come. SEAT , a subsidiary of Volkswagen , was always supposed to be the Kia to Volkswagen 's Hyundai , but has not done a great job of mixing performance and low prices together. Well, it got the latter down. The Bocanegra Concept , however, sports an aggressive, expressive design that, while not altogether original (we see Euro Focus and BMW 1-Series cues), is a major leap forward for the Spanish brand. Sources say the concept's sheetmetal is pretty darn close to what the production model will be when it debuts later this year at the Madrid Motor Show, and the hatch will also be offered in a five-door version. Every so often, we wish that Volkswagen 's SEAT brand was available here in the US. Sure, the Spanish automaker's vehicles are badge-engineering exercises that raid the corporate partsbin for powertrains, switchgear, and the like, but their styling is unique and some of the packages have definite appeal. Take, for instance, the just-announced UK-market Leon Cupra K¹ . With the stylish Leon Cupra as its base, the K¹ adds an appearance package that is, to put it plainly, pretty bitchin'. Intended to make the car look more like the Cupra BTCC racers, the kit includes new front and rear treatments, side skirts, and a sweet-looking center-exit exhaust. We think the K¹ kit is actually better-looking than the BTCC bodywork. Like its standard-bodied counterpart, the K¹ gets power from a 240 PS (236 HP) version of VW's 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder. The SEAT Ibiza 1.9 TDI DAB is powered by a 100 PS 1.9-litre four cylinder turbodiesel engine and a five-speed manual gearbox. The SEAT Ibiza 1.9 TDI DAB price is £10,995 RRP and only 300 units will be sold. The top speed of the SEAT Ibiza 1.9 TDI DAB is 118 mph and has a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 10.8 seconds. And it’s as quick as it is slick, with a 0 to 62 mph time of just 10.8 seconds and a top speed (where legal) of 118 mph. The torquey 240 Nm powerplant is frugal, too: around town drivers can look forward to 42.8 mpg while in the combined cycle the Ibiza is good for 55.4 mpg. (from JE Design Press Release) JE DESIGN well-known as a SEAT tuning specialist, is now presenting the highlight of its Leon suite - a wide body with wing doors. JE DESIGN also gives the new turbo-charged petrol engine an extra boost. The direct injection TFSI engine, which VW has recently started to fit, promises a great deal of tuning potential. By means of modification to the engine management system, JE DESIGN squeezes 180/(244) kW/(bhp) and 355 Nm from this 2 litre turbo-charged four-cylinder engine, which otherwise generates 147/(200) kW/(bhp) and 280 Nm in the Seat Leon. This power boost enables this handsome Spaniard to race along 13 km/h faster than the standard version. Even more impressive than the top speed of 242 km/h is the awesome acceleration. The 6.4 seconds it takes to sprint from 0 to 100 instead of the standard 7.3 speak for themselves! Needless to say, after this power enhancement, the engine still complies with the EI regulations. Seat will be switching to diesel power for this year's BTCC with a TDi Leon racer. Seat ran diesels in the World Touring Car Championship last year and was only narrowly beaten to the title when Yvan Muller's Leon went pop at the final round. Despite this, Seat Sport UK have an uphill battle ahead; they have yet to receive their new engines from Seat Spain, they've carried out no testing and neither their drivers (Jason Plato and Darren Turner) have driven diesel race cars.
