(from Land Rover Press Release) Land Rover North America is proud to announce that the 2008 Range Rover Sport has received the Automotive Lease Guide (ALG) Residual Value Award in the Luxury CUV segment. The annual Residual Value Awards identify those vehicles predicted to retain the highest percentage of their original purchase price after a conventional three-year lease term. “We understand the importance of residual values in our highly competitive business and are delighted by this recognition,” said Chris Marchand, executive vice president of Marketing and Sales, Land Rover North America. The ALG awards are based on careful evaluation of segment competition, past vehicle performance and emerging trends in the industry. “The 2008 awards prove once again that compelling design, high quality manufacturing and disciplined pricing and volume programs are essential to achieve the highest residual value,” said John Blair, Automotive Lease Guide's Chief Executive Officer. Land Rover is celebrating its 60th Anniversary with the special edition Defender SVX model. The iconic new Defender retains a strong resemblance to its 1948 predecessor, yet boasts an array of modern features. More than 25,000 units are produced each year as rugged work horses, however the 60th anniversary SVX special edition model will enjoy its status as the most feature-packed model Land Rover has ever produced. Available as a seven-seat 110 station wagon exclusively in a metallic black finish, each Defender SVX features an individually numbered plaque, a restyled grille surround, tubular side-steps, unique alloy wheels, reinforced aluminium front undershield, clear-lens headlamps and LED reverse/rear fog lights. The interior is surprisingly refined for such a typically rugged off-roader, featuring custom-designed Recaro front seats, machined alloy gear knobs, a new audio system (with subwoofer and USB socket), iPod compatibility and Garmin satellite navigation. A total of 1,800 Defender...

Companies can crow about the ability of their SUVs, but for a great number of people, the Land Rover Defender is the epitome of the SUV concept. As iconic as the original Jeep, the Defender does its thing, and does it better than just about any other vehicle in its class. Wagon or convertible, new or old, the Defender will happily wade into whatever slop its driver points it at and come out the other side no worse for wear. Land Rover is building a limited run of 1,800 Defender SVX models to celebrate the marque's 60th anniversary. The SVX kit dresses up the Landie with flashier trim on the grille, side steps and roll cage; a swankier set of wheels; special badging and decals; plus interior appointments including Recaros, a Garmin GPS, and that all-important iPod hookup. Glitzing up a Defender seems akin to a mud wrestler putting on Harry Winston jewelery before heading into battle, but at the end of the day, at least you know it'll clean up nice. © Source: autoblog We need your...

Land Rover is quick to remind that the LRX is just a concept, but it's sending a pretty strong message in Geneva, where a second, black-and-silver LRX will join the original white truck that premiered in Detroit. And the new one is even hotter than the original, itself one of the best concepts of the last year. It's supposed to demonstrate how a (potential) production LRX could be personalized, and we would like to have one delivered to our personal garage approximately yesterday. The rakish shape now features a silver roof fitted with side rails and a removable carbon-composite panel. This beautifully contrasts the black primary finish, and aluminum-accented details do their part to further dress up the exterior. As a subtle reminder to onlookers that this is still a Land Rover despite its elegance, matte-finished protective trim adorns the side sills and wheel flares. Furthermore, carbon-composite skidplates supply underbody protection. Inside, a sumptuous-sounding (LR hasn't...

Land Rover is to introduce a range-topping HST variant to its Freelander 2 model, which sees it getting a Sports Styling Pack - à la Range Rover Sport - that's basically bigger bumpers, some side skirts and a roof spoiler, plus 19-inch alloys, blacked-out windows and metallic paint. It's all very obvious really, but with the RRS and Freelander 2 proving so popular, you can see where they're coming from: that + that = a cheaper RRS. It might just be down to the hideous colour options on the promo pics, but we reckon it looks like a Freelander with a nasty Essex bodykit. At least the front does; the rear three-quarter view doesn't look quite so bad. We still can't help thinking that bodykits on 4x4s are taking them even further away from their intended use, though. © Source: topgear We need your comments below >>

(from Land Rover Press Release) Enhancements to the Range Rover for 2008 add a series of further luxury touches and practical new features, including four-zone air conditioning. The improvements are expected to help maintain the strong market performance of the Range Rover , with sales in the first four months of 2007 already 19% up worldwide over last year. "That increase is largely due to the huge popularity of the acclaimed TDV8 diesel that we introduced to the Range Rover line-up last year," says Phil Popham, Land Rover 's managing director. "The engine's great combination of performance and fuel economy has not only powered overall Range Rover sales, but also shifted our diesel/petrol mix, especially in Europe. Most Range Rover customers who would previously have bought a V8 petrol now choose a TDV8 instead, which offers petrol-like refinement but with 32% better fuel economy." The list of changes for 2008 is headed by the introduction of four-zone air conditioning...

Ford’s Premier Auto Group was profitable in 2007 as Jaguar and Land Rover , which are now on the auction block, ended the year in the black. The small profit offset losses at Volvo, which was badly hurt by the decline in the value of the U.S. dollar. Don Leclair, Ford’s chief financial officer, disclosed the information about Ford’s three European brands Thursday as the company reported a net loss of $2.7 billion for 2007. Ford’s losses for the past two years now exceed $15.3 billion and the company does not expect to be profitable in 2008, Ford executives said, citing the continuing pressure from slow economic growth in the U.S. Leclair and Ford president and CEO Alan Mulally reiterated while Ford will proceed with the sale of Land Rover and Jaguar, it is planning hang on to Volvo despite the new operating loss and a one-time write-off of $2.4 billion linked to the sliding dollar. Ford didn’t disclose the size of the operating loss. The red ink is certain to increase pressure on Volvo...

(from Land Rover Press Release) Land Rover unveiled a vision of its future at the North American International Auto Show ( Detroit Auto Show ) with the world debut of the LRX hybrid concept - a bold evolution of Land Rover design that indicates the brand’s progressive shift into new areas of the market, while remaining true to its core values. As the company prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary during 2008, the three-door LRX, with its more compact size, lighter weight and sustainability-focused technologies, clearly addresses the needs of a changing world and offers the potential of 120 g/km CO2 emissions. “The LRX concept delivers the powerful message that we are as serious about sustainability as we are confident about the continuing relevance and desirability of our vehicles,” says Phil Popham, Land Rover’s managing director. “LRX is in every respect a Land Rover, but it’s a very different Land Rover . COMPACT AND PREMIUM LRX is described as a cross-coupй and dramatically extends...

Today Auto Motor und Sport published the first official images of the Land Rover LRX Concept that will be shown for the first time at the 2008 NAIAS in Detroit. The LRX is a two-door crossover with a coupè-like body that previews the future small Land Rover, which will be positioned under the Freelander. The production version is expected to make its debut in spring 2009. The car measures 435 cm in length and 155 in height, being shorter but, above all, quite a bit lower than the Freelander. The concept has aggressive air intakes, 20" rims and narrow head lights. In the side view there is a notably high belt line which creates along with the sloping roof profile a small glass surface, similar to a sports car one. The panoramic roof shows the futuristic interior, covered in two-tone leather and highlighted with polished aluminium trim. There are only four seats as the central tunnel is extended to the rear. The LRX is based on the Ford Focus platform and has a hybrid drive with the...
