While Ferrari has always been primarily a motorsport company which delved into road-going super cars, Lamborghini ’s lack of motorsport heritage has lingered as a blemish on its performance reputation - a result of founder Ferruccio Lamborghini dismissing any involvement as being unprofitable. Now under the direction of Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini has today announced ‘The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo’ – the world’s fastest one-make series. The series will debut in May 2009 comprising a grid of 30 lightweight versions of the Gallardo LP 560-4 super sports car. The Super Trofeo edition LP 560-4 racers boast a reworked chassis with double wishbone suspension all round, a specialist racing brake system and Pirelli slick racing tyres. Carbon-fibre composite body components such as the fixed rear wing combine with an ultra-light racing seat, racing steering wheel and specialized instruments for a total weight of just 1,300kg. (from Lamborghini Press Release) With the modified Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera Edo Competition Motorsport has now added a second high-profile Italian racer to its tuning program after the Murcielago LP 640. Like its bigger brother, this sports car with the bull in its logo excels through its highlighted racing genes and more aggressive appearance after being modified at edo competition. The most remarkable feature is the sensational acceleration. Edo Competition achieves these figures thanks to the installation of a massive air box, high flow catalytic converters which are a completely new design and a recalibration of the engine electronics. When the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Grand Tourer was all set to appear in special Police livery at Salon Privé's Private and Luxury Super Car Show, little did we know that cops in Italy would find lucky donations in the form of a Lamborghini Gallardo . The Italian State Police (Polizia di Stato) has received the donation from Automobili Lamborghini SpA. The V10, that boasts of 500 bhp, 190 mph, features colors of the state police and includes a siren and flashing lights on the roof. The traffic police gets the honor of using the Gallardo , which will be used during emergency situations on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway in southern Italy. It's been fitted with all the gadgets necessary to transmit critical info during road traffic accidents, fires and other disaster situations. The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 is the successor of the most successful Lamborghini model of all time. Approximately 7100 Gallardo models have left the Sant'Agata Bolognese production plant since its launch in 2003. Is it the ultimate combination? Or a complete abomination? The flashy Lamborghini Gallardo trailering a custom (and most likely unauthorized) Lamborghini chopper were recently spotted in Miami Beach. From the pictures, we can see that the Lamborghini chopper is wearing the Lamborghini badge, and the black leather seat is embossed with the Lambo seal. Production of the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera has ended in favour of the newly released LP560-4 Gallardo which made its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show . Despite having only been in production for almost a year, the lighter and more powerful Superleggera was only ever intended as a limited production model. Revisions to the Gallardo ’s V10 engine raised maximum power to 388kW at 8000rpm and 510Nm, whilst a 70kg weight reduction meant it could accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds. The Lamborghini LP560-4 Gallardo produces 412kW and 539Nm from its larger 5.2-litre V10 engine, out pacing the lightweight Superleggera in the sprint to 100km/h by 0.1 seconds. Continuing its commitment to launch a new model at every major European motor show for the forseeable future, Lamborghini took the wraps of a fresh version of the Gallardo. Badged the LP560-4 , at its heart is a new 5.2-liter V-10 gasoline engine, delivering 552 hp at 8000 rpm. That's an increase of around 40 hp over the outgoing Gallardo . Total body weight is down to 3109 pounds, which is 44 pounds lighter than the old model. The two-seater will accelerate to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 201 mph. Fuel economy is around 8 mpg, but despite the power hike CO2 emissions are down by 18 percent. Lamborghini also says the LP560-4 has improved traction, handling and high-speed stability over its predecessor. The suspension is new, the all-wheel drive system has been redesigned and the aerodynamics package improved, in part because of a new rear defuser.
