One car will be unveiled at the 2009 Seoul Motor Show and then displayed at Hyundai Motor Company’s headquarters in Seoul, while the other two will be auctioned for charity under the joint Hyundai Motor Company - Prada Transformer name. Prada’s design team will create the three special edition Genesis sedans in Italy over a four month period, working closely with Hyundai Motor Company’s engineers and own designers, using the house’s signature materials. • 2010 Hyundai Rhys Millen Racing Genesis Coupe

(from Hyundai Press Release) Rhys Millen Racing (RMR), one of the industry’s most respected tuners, designed the “Art of Speed” Genesis Coupe 2.0T with the visual impact to turn heads at the 2008 SEMA Show and the performance necessary to put the driver in the winner’s circle the following weekend. The RMR Genesis Coupe is powered by a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine enhanced by a Turbonetics turbocharger, wastegate and blow-off valve to provide extra horsepower and torque. It is equipped with a heavy-duty HKS sequential transmission and a KW coilover suspension to put that additional power to the ground. The RMR Genesis Coupe sports a silver and blue paint scheme and a RMR dry carbon fiber wide body kit, functional hood scoop and an APR GTC-500 carbon-fiber wing. RMR added SSR Type-F competition lightweight wheels and Bridgestone Potenza racing slicks, which partner well with the race-ready factory Brembo brake system. Inside, the vehicle interior has transformed into a racing cockpit...
  • Hyundai sets new sales record

Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea’s largest automaker, posted its biggest global monthly sales ever this October. Year-on-year global sales are up 12 percent while accumulated sales for the first ten months of this year were up 8.9 percent from 2008, with some 2,330,617 units sold. The overseas sales figure included a 10 percent increase in exports and a 27 percent increase in vehicles produced at the company’s overseas plants. The figures for the two were 118,890 units and 98,333 units respectively. Overall, overseas sales rose 17% from a year earlier - and this despite the company’s mid-year industrial action and the overall global economic downturn. Emerging markets in India and China helped fuel sales with the i10 seeing a 66 percent increase in the Indian domestic market, whereas in China sales of the Elantra (Yuedong) increased by 21 percent. These figures emphasize Hyundai’s sustained commitment to developing and exporting fuel-efficient small to medium sized cars around the globe...
  • Hyundai i40 will replace the current Sonata

Auto companies are under the impression that naming cars with letters and numbers are how the public sees a quality car. Blame the Germans, they started it. They are the reason you no longer by a Cadillac DeVille but a DTS, or you no longer buy an Acura Legend but a RL. It seems Hyundai is beginning to jump on this bandwagon. Hyundai has already named its small cars the i10, i20 and i30, but now this new naming trend may spill over into its bread-and-butter cars. AutoCar announced today that Hyundai is working on a new model to replace the Sonata, and it will be called the i40 . The car should make a worldwide debut by 2010 and be offered in both mid-sized sedan and wagon versions. The design will be inspired by the Hyundai Genus concept from the 2006 Geneva show. Engine choices are likely to include the 184bhp 2.0-liter common-rail diesel engine, but that may not come to the States. Hyundai will also offer other gas and diesel options for the international crowd. © Source: topspeed We...
  • Hyundai i20

Hitting the big time in small cars has become the holy grail for motor makers desperate to survive our current cash-strapped climate. Hyundai didn’t manage that with its pedestrian Getz. Now it’s hoping that car’s successor, the i20, will be able to take the fight to big guns such as the Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa and Volkswagen Polo. The i20 is longer, lower and wider than the Getz, so while its predecessor was instantly forgettable, the newcomer is rather stylish. There’s neat detailing around the front and pronounced lines that run the length of the doors. In terms of looks, the i20 is not unlike a cross between a Mazda 2 and the Corsa. The five-door that we drove will be in showrooms in January, while the three-door – which is simply shorter, rather than a different shape – comes four months later. Inside, Hyundai has played it safe. The design is functional and clear, and looks stylish without resorting to gimmicks. And as with the exterior, it’s all very well put together with tight...
  • Hyundai Portico spied

Today we've got new photos of the Hyundai with most of the heavy camouflage removed! First shown as a 2005 Portico concept in Chicago, Hyundai is hoping their R-Class-like crossover will pick up the pieces where Mercedes and Chrysler’s Pacifica failed. Flexible seating for the Portico means two rows of seating for 4 or 6 depending if the center seat is folded down or upright. With six passengers in two rows - the Portico will offer more cargo area than similarly sized vehicles. Hyundai 's Lambda 3.3-liter V6 is expected to be rated at around 240hp. In 3.8-liter form 290hp should provide ample motivation for the top of the Portico trim range. Hyundai's new 6-speed shiftronic transmission will route the power to a FWD or AWD setup. Hybrid and 4-cylinder powerplants are unknown despite earlier reports. While the Portico was slated to be built in Alabama, production has now shifted to Korea and will start in the 3rd quarter of 2009. © Source: worldcarfans We need your comments below...
  • Hyundai-Kia import ban in China

China has just closed its doors to the Hyundai-Kia group, one of the strong players in the promising Chinese car market, declaring an import ban on cars from the South Korean company. The stop to imports has occurred after an apparent violation of the Chinese antitrust norms, which appears to be linked to irregularities in the local sales network, according to Reuters reports. It’s not the end of the world for Hyundai- Kia as of the 520,000 cars sold in China every year, only 50,000 are actually produced in Korea. The rest are assembled in China through joint ventures with local manufacturers. © Source: eurocarblog We need your comments below >>

  • RKSport Hyundai Genesis Spied

One of our faithful readers was hanging out a gas station not far from our Detroit offices when he spotted what was clearly a new Hyundai Genesis sedan getting a fill up. Now seeing Genesis sedans and other Hyundais in various states of camouflage is not out of the ordinary in these parts over since the Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center Inc. (HATCI) is in the area. This particular Genesis is something a little different though. Notice those indentations in the hood and missing bits of trim? A little digging revealed that this is in fact the car that is being developed in cooperation with RKSport for the SEMA Show in Las Vegas this November. RKSport is working on body and suspension modifications for the car, while the engineers at HATCI are working on engine mods. We don't know which engine will be under the hood, although the words "powertrain boosting" were heard from a source. Judging from what looks like a pattern for cutouts in the hood, a turbocharged or supercharged...
  • 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

The power is available from the 260-hp, 3.8-liter V-6 engine. An abundance of critics’ complaints centered on the six-speed automatic transmission. “Goose the gas pedal for an aggressive pass and a confused throttle or off-guard transmission causes a noticeable delay,” described MyRide.com. “In merging and passing situations the refined six-speed transmission can be a little reluctant to kick down into a lower gear,” agreed Kelley Blue Book, “but keep squeezing the accelerator pedal and the Veracruz rewards with enough power to get the job done.” The automatic transmission has Shiftronic, which brings a manual shift gate by which drivers can manually select the gears one at a time, but there was also some criticism around how it worked. “All buyers will appreciate the manual shift control, though the Veracruz executes its own upshifts early, which serves to steal some fun,” said MyRide.com. The Veracruz ’s smooth ride and safe, stable handling, but few went so far as to say that it felt...
  • Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid concept at Paris Auto Show

Toyota, Honda and nearly every other major manufacturer has beaten Hyundai to market with a hybrid powertrain solution, but the Korean company is making up for lost time as the Paris Motor Show draws near. The latest development, scheduled to make its first appearance at the French show in October, is the Santa Fe petrol-electric hybrid SUV concept. The hybrid Santa Fe (standard model pictured) still remains cloaked in secrecy but the core information has been released: it will feature a 2.4L petrol engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a 30kW electric-assist motor powered by lithium-ion batteries. Fuel consumption is claimed at 44mpg (5.35L/100km) and CO2 emissions are similarly good at 148g/km. That’s important for places like the UK, where cars are taxed based on their emissions. More details and information will be revealed in Paris. Already Hyundai has an LPG-hybrid version of its Elantra (known as the Avante in Korea) in the works, due to go on sale in its home...
  • 2010 Hyundai Portico – Spied

We expect to see Hyundai ’s 3.3-liter and 3.8-liter V-6s, and perhaps a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The vehicle will be available with front- or all-wheel drive. The Portico could have been a candidate for Hyundai's proposed luxury brand, had the automaker not shelved the idea of a separate sales channel. Read here for the full story behind this decision. The crossover likely will begin assembly in Korea in the fall of 2009 for sale as a 2010 model. It is one of seven new vehicles the automaker is introducing over the next two years as part of a product onslaught it dubs 24/7 Version 2.0. The first 24/7 program oversaw the launch of seven new vehicles in a 24-month period beginning in 2004. What remains to be seen is whether Hyundai uses this two-row, six-passenger crossover to replace the Entourage minivan in its lineup. The Entourage is the only real example of badge engineering with sister company Kia—in this case it is an engineering clone of the Kia Sedona. But while...
  • 2009 Hyundai Elantra

Hyundai has added a hatchback version of its Elantra compact sedan to battle it out with cars like the Dodge Caliber, Toyota Matrix, Mazda3 hatchback and Nissan Versa. Standard equipment includes four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, six airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system and stability control, something not standard among the competition. Other features new to the Touring model are standard USB and auxiliary audio inputs. The center stack design has also been changed. Power still comes from the same four-cylinder engine, but for an economy car it isn't completely anemic. © Source: cars We need your comments below >>
  • 2009 Hyundai i20 Spied

Hyundai’s latest generation of cars have been given the highest praise by the motoring world. The i-series is set for expansion with the release of the i10 shortly as well as the car we have pictured here, the VW Polo-rival, likely to be called the i20 . Expected to go on sale overseas sometime next year, the i20 will replace the ageing Hyundai Getz which has been on the market since 2002. Though we’ve snapped the five-door here undergoing mountain-testing in southern Europe, we’re pretty sure a three-door model will be available as well. Will the i20 come to Australia? It would seem very likely. Engine choices are still a guess, but we suspect a variety of petrol engines delivering between 50-80kW will be offered in Europe, plus at least one turbodiesel. Hyundai Australia has been contacted for comment. Check back later in the day for more on the new Getz. © Source: caradvice We need your comments below >>
