  • Victoria police Hummer style

Victoria Police have announced plans to use five custom built Hummer H3s in a new operation to tackle the weekend violence in Melbourne’s CBD. General Motors’ Hummer brand will be loaning the five vehicles to Victoria police with media reports suggesting the cars will be ready within five weeks. The concept is for the Police force to stand out and have a stronger felt presence on city streets. The idea has already been in the works for some time, however the announcement follows yet another weekend filled with violence that left a 24-year-old man dead and another seriously injured. “The idea of going to the Hummers is that it’s about trying to measure visible impact so we’ve got to try to introduce something which might look different to our current fleet of vehicles. We want to be visibly seen and we want to make sure the police out on the streets are recognisable and that we do reassure the public that we’re there.” Asst Commissioner Gary Jamieson said. © Source: caradvice We need your...
  • Bentlummer - What is it??

So has Bentley finally gone ahead and built that much-rumoured SUV it has been muttering about for years? No, it hasn't. This thing, this assault on your poor innocent eyes, is - as you might have guessed - a Hummer modified to look like a Bentley . And painted gold. Very gold. Why? We really don't know. Suffice to say it hails from that capital of car couture, Dubai, and that the owner is heavily weighing down one end of the Money-Sense scales. We'll let you decide which end. We mock, but we've a horrible, sneaking suspicion that this might be the next big thing among the Premiership elite. Can't decide between a Bentley and a Hummer ? Have both. Bolt an Aston to the roof and you're there... © Source: topgear We need your comments below >>

  • 2009 HUMMER H2 and H2 SUT will be E85 compatible

In Dallas, a businessman has spent half a million dollars to install nine pumps that dispense E85, E10, and biodiesel. The catch: the businessman is a HUMMER dealer, and the pumps are next to his dealership. The station is called Classic Clean Fuels, and it is intended to make a statement for next year's H2 and H2 SUT, which will be the first production models to be Flex-fuel capable. You won't need to drive a HUMMER to get E85 at the station. The pumps are open to the public, a first for a dealer-owned gas station. By 2010, GM has said all HUMMERs will be biofuel-capable. GM plans to market 15 Flexfuel models next year, but only one percent of the country's service stations sell E85. GM is using that as an opportunity to open the public's (and dealers') minds to putting alternative fuel stations in alternative places. Said GM's Larry Burns, "Down the road we may even want to consider hydrogen dispensers at dealerships." © Source: autoblog We need your...
  • Remote-Controlled HUMMER H3

When I was a yungin', there was no better way to approximate the thrill of actually driving a car than terrorizing my backyard with a Tamiya Blackfoot. The Blackfoot was a 1:10 scale Ford F-150 monster truck with four independent shocks, two-wheel drive and a plastic flareside body. Fast forward to 2008, and it's not uncommon to see Adam and Jamie from Mythbusters piloting full-size rocket cars from a helicopter using an R/C controller similar to the one I used back in the day. Perhaps that's why the sight of a full-size, right-hand-drive, radio-controlled HUMMER H3 doesn't shock us much, but we still have to give mad props to engineer Dr. James Brighton from Cranfield University for creating an R/C car that rivals my Blackfoot. GM says the remote-controlled HUMMER can climb a 407mm vertical wall, traverse a 40% side slope and run through 610mm of water. Yeah, but can it jump two tree branches? I thought not. Blackfoot FTW. © Source: autoblog We need your comments below...
  • Follow-Up Test 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha

The 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha reminds us of an old advertisement for Marlboro cigarettes, the one where a cowboy is seen lighting his cigarette from a flaming log plucked from the campfire. You see, cowboys don't use Bics or Crickets. Hell, this guy is so manly he doesn't even use the manliest, smelliest of lighters, the Zippo. Hell no. He uses a chunk of fiery lumber like a real man — a Marlboro man — is supposed to. Similarly, the 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha seems to say, "Let the crossovers have their comfy rides and reasonable step-in heights and decent cargo space and fuel economy. I am the Alpha male. The leader of the pack. I will breed first, eat first, walk first in line and I will light my cigarette by whatever absurd means I damn well please." GM pumped up the five-cylinder shortly after the H3's introduction, but that was merely a stopgap until the Hummer could do the sensible thing and plunk a V8 under that fake, plastic hood vent. Sure, it required the firewall to...
  • 2009 Hummer H3T Alpha

(from Hummer Press Release) 2009 H3T BRINGS HUMMER’S UNIQUE STYLE AND LEGENDARY CAPABILITY TO THE TRUCK MARKET CHICAGO – HUMMER is bringing its unmistakable style and unmatched capability to the truck market with the 2009 H3T. It is based on the architecture of the popular H3, but features a five-passenger crew cab and a separate five-foot-long (1.5 meters) bed. The H3T is bigger than a midsize truck and smaller than a full-size truck, creating its own niche in the market. It also is infused with the attributes expected of a HUMMER, including exceptional off-road capability and a premium interior that is as functional as it is comfortable. In addition to its segment-defying size, the H3T also stands apart from other trucks with its signature HUMMER off-road capability. It is the only midsize truck to come standard with full-time four-wheel drive, 32-inch tires and functional skid shields. It also is the only midsize truck to offer front and rear locking differentials, as well as 33-inch...
  • HUMMER Web Site Nabs New H3T Truck

It’s embargo time again for Chicago’s auto show - and the new HUMMER H3T is the latest victim to fall. HUMMER guy.net’s Web site says this photo was taken in anticipation of a Detroit show debut, but of course HUMMER had an HX concept for the ongoing Cobo affair earlier this month. The new HUMMER truck has a short bed and lots of nifty cargo features, like a built-in lunchbox, according to the Web site. No specs are produced, but GM’s 3.5-liter in-line five and the palindromic 5.3-liter V-8 are expected to be options. The new truck will be built alongside the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon twins in the GM plant in Shreveport, La., starting this year. © Source: thecarconnection We need your comments below >>
  • 2008 HUMMER HX Concept - new pictures

General Motors is known to have had its eye on the niche occupied by the Jeep Wrangler. And at the Detroit auto show next week, it will reveal more of its intentions to field a Wrangler competitor in the shape of the HUMMER HX concept . HUMMER 's general manager, Martin Walsh said, "We've made our intentions clear that we want to expand our product line. To do this, we need another, smaller vehicle." Certainly, the H2 and H3 were smaller than the original H1, but there is clearly room beneath the H3 for a Wranger-sized SUV. Following HUMMER's naming convention, the betting money is on H4 as the model name. The HX Concept , shown in sketches at a GM press event, also embodies some of the off-road hallmarks of the Toyota FJ Cruiser. But GM says the design of the new HX concept is all HUMMER, even though it's the work of three young designers that are new to GM Design Staff. The resulting HX concept shares some elements with other HUMMER vehicles, like the seven-bar...
  • 2004 Hummer H1

2004 HUMMER H1: ONE OF A KIND "Unique." "The original." "The world's premier off-road vehicle." There are many ways to describe the HUMMER H1. Also fitting is "cornerstone," since it's the foundation upon which the HUMMER sales growth is built. "The H1 is what started it all for HUMMER ," said Michael C. DiGiovanni, HUMMER general manager. "It's the vehicle that drew the interest of adventurous consumers across the nation, as well as the interest of GM. It offers superior off-road capabilities rugged enough for the Baja and powerful highway performance." More power and plenty of poise HUMMER H1 is powered by a retuned 6.5L, turbo-diesel V-8 engine that for 2004 delivers 205 horsepower (152 kw) at 3400 rpm and an impressive 440 lb.-ft. (596 Nm) of torque at 1800 rpm. That's 10 horsepower (7 kw) and 10 lb.-ft. (14 Nm) of torque more than the 2003 powerplant. Yet enhanced performance is only part of the engine's...
  • 2010 HUMMER H2 SUT Spied!

Judging by this prototype caught under test, it looks like the HUMMER H2 SUT is on the verge of a growth spurt. This H2 SUT tester--parading around in what appears to be a faux army paint scheme (complete with star)--has clearly been lengthened behind the rear doors. It appears that a good 12 inches has been added both fore and aft of the rear wheel, resulting in a significant increase in hauling capacity over the compromised bed of the current H2 SUT. We would guess that this new, longer H2 is making use of the stretched GMT 900 platform used on the Suburban instead of the H2's normal Tahoe-based package. The strategy was probably deemed necessary to properly differentiate the H2 SUT from the upcoming H3 SUT, which sports a similarly stretched bed when compared to its SUV counterpart. If the H2 SUT has ever made any sense, its relevance would be severely challenged if the smaller H3 pickup actually trumped the H2 in functionality. The General is now in the process of rectifying this...
  • 2008 HUMMER HX Concept

General Motors is known to have had its eye on the niche occupied by the Jeep Wrangler. And at the Detroit auto show next month, it may reveal more of its intentions to field a Wrangler competitor in the shape of the HUMMER HX concept . The HX Concept, shown in sketches at a GM press event today, also embodies some of the off-road hallmarks of the Toyota FJ Cruiser. BUT GM says the design of the new HX concept is all HUMMER , even though it's the work of three new designers. David Rojas, Min Young Kang, and Robert Jablonski are the artists GM assigned to envision a future off-road vehicle for the HUMMER brand. All three are graduates of the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. The vehicle would have to evince HUMMER's off-road credentials while passing muster with Carl Zipfel, the director of the brand's design studio. The resulting HX concept shares some elements with other HUMMER vehicles, like its flex-fuel-capable powertrain. But as the HX model is smaller and is a two...
  • 2007 Hummer Racing

(from General Motors Press Release) HUMMER H3 Alpha and H3 first stock class vehicles to finish Baja. Racing legend Rod Hall earns 19th career win in 40th Anniversary race DETROIT – Team HUMMER once again demonstrated the inherent off-road capability of the HUMMER H3 as Rod, Josh and Chad Hall piloted their stock class H3 Alpha and H3 nearly 1,300 miles to become the first stock class vehicles to finish the 2007 SCORE International Baja 1000. The 2007 Baja 1000 marked the 40th anniversary of the grueling off-road race and covered 1,296.39 miles from Ensenada in Baja California to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Baja California Sur. It ran from November 13-15, 2007. Team HUMMER races in the SCORE International full and mini stock classes which feature production-based vehicles with stock frames, stock suspension designs and production-based engines. With 18 entries, the 2007 race boasted the most stock class vehicles in the history of the 1000 and included models from seven different automakers...
  • 2007 SEMA Show: Hummer H3 Is Crossed With Corvette Z06

LAS VEGAS — The Hummer H3R Off-Road Concept unites the H3 SUV and the 7.0-liter V8 from a Chevrolet Corvette Z06, with some intriguing results, at the 2007 SEMA Show. But don't get too excited. Hummer hustles to say, "No, a production H3 equipped with an LS7 engine isn't in the cards." "The H3R pays homage to the racing SUV while pushing the envelope on what could be considered 'stock' — supposing the factory decided to drop in the 505-horsepower 7.0-liter V8 from the Corvette Z06," Hummer said in reference to Team Hummer, led by Rod Hall. One smart bit of detail here includes a forward-tilting hood with a Lexan see-through insert, as well as power-operated hood hinges. The H3R has a racing-inspired paint job with custom badging, 20-inch wheels and Mickey Thompson Bear Claw 35-inch off-road tires. A washable rubber floor replaces the carpeting, and there's a navigation radio system and auxiliary performance gauges. What this means to you: Unlike some of GM's other SEMA show offerings, this...

The Hummer H3 GT Alpha achieves its additional power by means of a Geiger Tuning Kit, which raises the engine’s maximum performance to 300 bhp. The engine produces a peak torque of 3876 in-lbs, which allows the 2.3 ton Hummer to effortlessly reach a top speed of 124 mph. GeigerCars.de has employed three specific components to produce this performance upgrade: software for the engine and transmission, a sport air filter, and a complete stainless steel high performance exhaust system. The distinctive sound emitted from its impressive tailpipes...
