Ford has said in the past that it wasn't looking to bring its lovable little Ka subcompact to the United States, but increased demand for fuel efficient transportation has the Dearborn-based automaker rethinking its plans. The Ka is very popular in Europe, where fuel-sipping cars have long been accepted, but the tiny Ka has never been sold here in the States. The new Ka, which was shown off in Paris last week, carries Ford's European Kinetic Design theme that is shared with the larger Fiesta and Focus, but in a much smaller package. Ford CEO Alan Mulally told a local Detroit radio station this morning that many within Ford Motor Company would like to bring the Ka across the pond, and that executives are reassessing the situation. The new Ka hits European showrooms in early 2009, and even if the Ka does come here, we likely won't see the sub-compact until 2011 at the earliest. Ford is expanding its relationship with Cabela 's, the world's largest outdoor outfitter, by offering a new Cabela 's FX4 package for 2009. According to customer data, seventy-six percent of F-Series buyers hunt and fish and a key way for Ford to connect with those outdoor enthusiasts is as the official truck of Cabela’s for the last six years with products prominently placed at stores nationwide and featured in Cabela’s publications and TV programming. The Cabela's FX4 package features a unique two-tone paint scheme in five colors: Ebony, Oxford White, Forest Green Metallic, Royal Red Metallic and Silver Metallic with Sterling Grey Metallic lower body accents, running boards and wheel lip moldings. The baby Ford will make its world debut at next month’s Paris Motor Show , but company bosses have already confirmed trim levels. There’s a choice of Studio, Style, Style + and Zetec, each with its own unique styling features and equipment. Buyers will also be able to specify optional extras such as Bluetooth phone connectivity and heated seats. The Ka shares platform architecture with the Fiat 500, and is built on the same production line at the Italian firm’s Tychy factory in Poland. Ford has spent thousands of hours ensuring the car is stronger dynamically than its Fiat twin, though. Engine options will be limited to a 1.2-litre petrol unit with 68bhp or a 74bhp 1.3-litre TDCi turbodiesel. Both models emit less than 120g/km of CO2, while the oil-burner promises 67.2mpg fuel returns. Ford has announced today an approved Mountune performance upgrade for the Focus ST hatchback. The Mountune Performance package comprises a larger intercooler, a high-flow air filter and re-mapped engine management software, increasing power to 256bhp and torque to 400Nm – lifting the fast Ford right into Audi S3 territory. The standard ST makes do with 222bhp and 320Nm. The increases mean the 0-62mph sprint is shaved by 0.6 seconds to 5.9 seconds, and because the upgrade is Ford approved it does not affect the manufacturer’s warranty. Priced at £1,120 plus fitting, the kit can be fitted to new or used cars by a select group of specialist dealers, a list of whom can be found at www.mountuneperformance.com. Performance modifications from Ford Racing will generate 400 horsepower. DEARBORN, Mich., July 23, 2008 - The numbers tied to the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture Oshkosh are impressive, if not overwhelming - but there's one statistic especially worth eyeing. Some 2,500 show aircraft and 650,000 visitors are expected at this year's meet, which runs from Monday - Aug. 3. An estimated 10,000 airplanes are expected to fly in to the airport in east-central Wisconsin. And here's the kicker: The event will feature one cool Ford Mustang . It hasn’t even hit UK roads yet, but Ford is already chasing the warm hatch pack with the Fiesta Zetec S . The Zetec S will sit at the top of the new Fiesta range when the car is launched in October, keeping the throne warm until the true king arrives – the scorching Fiesta ST. But the pretender will not be short on thrills, thanks to an all-new 118bhp 1.6-litre Duratec petrol engine. Designed to deliver a great mix of performance and economy, 0-62mph is dealt with in 9.9 seconds, CO2 emissions are a scant 139g/km and a gallon of fuel should be enough for almost 50 miles. It might not be quite as outlandish as its RS siblings, but the Zetec S will stand out from the hatchback crowd thanks to a dynamic body kit, including deeply-sculpted flanks, jagged side skirts and an aerodynamic splitter. These two designs show what the next-generation 2009 Ford Fiesta XR4 and a potential Cabrio variant could look like. Rumours regarding a topless Ford Fiesta are still unconfirmed and the blue oval has not released a Cabrio Fiesta for some time. With gas prices at record highs, automakers are scrambling to develop more fuel efficient models. While some automakers are developing all-new cars from scratch, Ford realized that it didn’t have to look any farther than its current European lineup for fuel-saving models. One of those models that will be making the trek across the pond is the Blue Oval’s C-Max , which are spy photographers just spotted while testing in the wild. Based on the C1 platform — the same that currently underpins the Euro-spec Ford Focus — the next-generation Ford C-Max will be arriving in the States for the 2011 model year, along with the European versions of the Focus and Kuga. But what we’re seeing here is a mule: a well-modified shell of the current C-Max, hiding evidence of the all-new C-Max underneath. Currently we don’t know exactly what will power the upcoming C-Max when it arrives in the states, but we’re expecting the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine from the Focus to find its way to the to-of-the-line version...

The Focus RS will be equipped with a tweaked version of the turbocharged Duratec 2.5-liter inline-five found in the ST, and will send between 280 and 300 hp, along with 300+ lb.-ft. of torque, through the front wheels via a six-speed gearbox equipped with a Quaife limited-slip differential. With that kind of power, the RS should be able to make the run to 60 in less than six seconds – assuming you don't torque-steer yourself into a tree in the process. The dynamic body kit, complete with gaping maw, flared fenders, side sills, rear diffuser and wing, and unfortunate fender vents, compliments the lowered ride height, 19-inch, 15-spoke wheels and upgraded brakes. If you're anxiously awaiting the (European) return of the Focus RS, you're in luck. Not only is the official launch, slated for the 2008 British Motor Show, only a month away, but Ford has also released official "spy" photos of the hot hatch hitting the Nurburgring. We've not seen an RS model since 2003, as it disappeared when Ford launched an all-new European Focus in 2004. Although a performance-tuned ST model is currently offered, the new Focus RS promises to stuff even more performance into the three-door hatch. From what we can glean from these photos, the car does resemble the Focus ST coupe, but select cues set the performance-tuned RS apart from lesser trims. We can't help but notice the oversized wheel flares wrapped around large-diameter rolling stock (possibly 19-inch alloys). And there's the matter of that front fascia; yes, it does look more rounded than a base Focus, but we see an intercooler lurking behind a large grille opening. Although Ford...
