Dodge is known for bucking conventional pickup-truck wisdom. The '94 model polarized everyone with its brazen big-rig styling. For 2009, the Dodge Ram gets perhaps its most significant breakthrough yet: rear coil springs. That's big news, as is the 390 horsepower rating of the revised 5.7-liter Hemi. But is class-leading power and a new suspension enough to lure more half-ton shoppers to Dodge's lots? With Ford and GM well entrenched in the pickup game and Tundra and Titan nipping at Detroit's heels, Dodge has to do better than good enough. And that's especially true in these, the hardest times yet for the full size pickup market. The verdict from down south? Dodge has created the smoothest riding full size pickup yet. The most-popular Ram 1500 engine should continue to be the Hemi. The 5.7-liter V8 gets "next-generation" massaging which results in 390 hp, a 13 percent increase over 2008's 345 hp rating. The big V8 now delivers 407 lb.-ft. of torque too...

Dodge figures the full-size Charger's styling will work just as well on a mid-size car. And so we have the Avenger, which basically looks like a three-quarter-scale Charger. Mechanically, the Avenger is a twin to the Chrysler Sebring sedan, sharing its underpinnings and powertrains. And like the Sebring, the Avenger hopes to out-value the Honda Accord, the Nissan Altima, and the Ford Fusion. To that end, the Avenger starts at $18,895 --$ 1605 less than an outgoing Stratus but with $985 more content. The Avenger 's cabin is spacious enough for two six-foot, two-inch occupants to sit one behind the other in comfort. Perceived quality is a big step up from other recent Chrysler efforts, and the unique dashboard architecture is characterful. Other neat cabin touches include the Chill Zone (a beverage cooler mounted in the dash) and MyGig (an optional audio, navigation, and entertainment system that allows you to download music and photos to a hard drive). The driving experience is not...

Dodge's entry in the 2008 Detroit Auto Show concept sweeps is the new ZEO , a concept that is perhaps the polar opposite of the Viper. The four-door, four-seat sport-wagon has the typical Dodge aggression but, like its partners this year, big eight- and ten-cylinder engines are out the picture. The ZEO is a battery EV with a claimed 250-mile range courtesy of a lithium ion battery pack. It will be interesting to see if this one is a runner like most Chrysler concepts or just a mock-up. © Source: youtube We need your comments below >>

Chrysler Group Australia will join Volkswagen and Audi in offering a dual-clutch transmission later this year when it launches the all-new Dodge Journey in Australia. The Journey is a vehicle CGA says takes the practicality of a people-mover, the capability of a sport-utility vehicle (SUV) and the overall efficiency of a passenger car and blends all the best attributes of each into an all-new “right-sized” crossover for the Dodge brand. CGA says the dual-clutch transmission, developed in conjunction with gearbox maker Getrag, will provide consumers a fuel economy improvement and CO2 emissions reduction of six percent. Chrysler says that dual-clutch transmission technology improves fuel economy and CO2 emissions by reducing parasitic losses—first, by eliminating the torque converter, and second, through the use of synchronizers instead of shift clutches. In its first Chrysler LLC vehicle applications, the new dual-clutch transmission will debut in international markets on the all-new 2008...

Sweet quarts of Pennzoil, why must every automaker jump on bandwagons they have no business being on? Chrysler, the reason people put DUB wheels and parts on their cars is to be unique and stand out from the crowd. By partnering with DUB for the 2008 DUB Edition Chrysler 300 Touring and 2008 DUB Edition Dodge Charger SXT , you're missing the point. Now you have two underpowered cars, with largely unremarkable styling, and overblown Kicker sound systems that will be replaced anyway. Has at everyone Chryslerberus taken crazy pills? © Source: jalopnik We need your comments below >>

Upon first glance it could be mistaken for a piece of military equipment capable of running over small houses. On second glance though, rubber tyres and a chrome grille slot it into the category of SUV. There is literally a large step to get to the driver’s seat, where a commanding position is then taken. The bonnet seems like it goes on forever, making the front corners of the bonnet easy to see. The driver’s seat is comfortable and offers a relaxing position for long drives. The interior – much like most American cars – is seemingly made entirely of plastic. I couldn’t believe the degree of plastics used in the Dodge Caliber I drove last year. Although the Nitro has a lot of plastic in use too, it’s not as bad as the Caliber, but on the same token, is not at a level I would call acceptable for a ~ $40,000 car. We test drove the Nitro SXT CRD , under the bonnet a Mercedes-Benz sourced diesel motor and gearbox powers the Nitro. Nail the throttle and after a short stint of turbo lag, a torrent...

If you ever ask a 1960's Mopar fan who the king of high performance is, they'll instantly tell you "Mr. Norm!" Owner of Grand Spaulding Dodge in Chicago, Norm Kraus was known for fitting performance parts to all types of Mopars, and even started the development for factory cars like the 383 and 400 Dart GTS. The king of all Mr. Norm's cars, however, was the Hemi GSS Dart . Each of the cars was fitted with a 426ci Hemi V8 with a pair of Holley carbs, a heavy duty cooling package, and aftermarket headers. In an effort to save weight, a fiberglass hood and front fenders were used, as well as a front bumper and doors stamped for a lighter gauge steel. In addition, the radio, rear seats, exterior mirrors, and window mechanisms were all removed. The result was a non-street legal drag car that could run down into the 10's in the quarter mile, making it the fastest factory built muscle car ever produced. Forty years later, Mr. Norm is producing a limited run of 21st century...

Overview The 2008 Dodge Nitro is a mid-size sport utility vehicle distinguished from other SUVs by its squared-off styling with exaggerated fender flares. Nitro shares its platform with the Jeep Liberty. It is 22 inches shorter than the Dodge Durango full-size SUV. The Nitro looks and feels larger than its size, with a high seating position that SUV owners like, and good cabin space. It features Load 'n' Go, a cargo storage system whereby the rear seats and front passenger seat fold totally flat in seconds; additionally, the cargo floor slides rearward out over the rear bumper, and can hold 400 pounds, making the loading of heavy objects much easier. It could prevent back injuries. The Nitro comes with either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, with a choice of V6 engines. The newer 4.0-liter V6 is better than the old 3.7-liter, with 50 more horsepower and fuel economy that's only one or two miles per gallon less. However the 4.0-liter engine only comes in the top-of-the-line...
