  • 2011 Chevy Volt - spied

Chevy Volt passed from the vaporware stage into the physical manifestation of GM's efforts to bring the series hybrid to production as promised. Though what you're looking at is the body of a last-gen Malibu, we have confirmation that underneath is the Volt 's E-Flex powertrain being track-tested for the first time, or at least the first time in front of a spy photographer's zoom lens. Of course, there are still a lot of questions surrounding the Volt, like whether or not GM will meet its self-imposed deadline of late 2010 for production, or if the price will continue to rise above the estimated $35,000 we've heard thrown around. What we do know is that the E-Flex powertrain will be paired with the next-generation Delta chassis. Two suppliers, Continental Automotive Systems and A123 Systems, are tasked with developing the Volt's all-important lithium-ion battery pack that has to achieve the difficult mark of allowing the Volt to operate for 40 miles on electric power...
  • Chevy Cobalt SS Sedan First official picture released

General Motors has finally let slip the first official image of the upcoming Chevrolet Cobalt SS sedan. As we previously reported, the four-door version is essentially the same as its coupe counterpart, only it has – you guessed it – four doors. That means the same two-liter turbocharged direct-injected four as the coupe version, also ubiquitously found in the Chevy HHR SS , Pontiac Solstice GXP, Saturn Sky Red Line and Opel Astra OPC. 260 horses are channeled to the front wheels through a five-speed stick, with an available limited-slip differential to help keep the power in check. The two-door Cobalt SS hits sixty in about 5.7 seconds and, impressively, lapped the Nürburgring Nodschleiffe in a class-leading 8:22.85. We'd expect the same performance out of the sedan version, with a similar price tag of around $23k when it goes on sale later this year. © Source: autoblog We need your comments below >>
  • Buyers dropping more coin on the 2008 Chevy Malibu

The 2008 Chevy Malibu has snatched up awards and media accolades, and JD Power data shows that customers are paying Chevy dealers handsomely to own one. The average transaction price of a Chevy Malibu is $22,358 -- $5,000 higher than the inherently uncool last-gen 'Bu. Twenty-one percent of buyers are also opting for the top-of-the-line LTZ vs. only 5% for the outgoing model. The news isn't all rosy, however, as most of these customers are trading in other GM products to get themselves into the North American Car of the Year. Only 1.4% of buyers traded in a Toyota Camry, 1.3% swapped a Nissan Altima, and less than 1% turned in a Honda Accord. Those aren't exactly the kind of numbers GM will want to brag about, but at least the General is pulling in the equivalent of two Tata Nanos more per car than the last generation model did. © Source: autoblog We need your comments below >>
  • Geneva '08 Preview Chevy Aveo 3-door

Chevy has completed the Aveo facelifts and will introduce the updated Euro-market 3-door at the Geneva Motor Show next month. You can sum it up like this: it's like the Aveo5, minus the doors for second-row passengers. The rear windows pop open for ventilation and an 84-horse 1.2L or step-up 1.4L that generates 101 hp will supply power. The interior styling carries over, as do the exterior visuals that share the Aveo 5-door's gigantic grille, fake fender vents, and the like. If this were offered in the US, it might make a nice alternative to the Yaris Liftback -- also a 3-door. © Source: autoblog We need your comments below >>

  • Full Test: 2008 Chevrolet Corvette

With all the feverish excitement surrounding the Corvette Z06 and the absurdly powerful Corvette ZR1, you'd almost believe that the standard Corvette had virtually ceased to exist. Indeed, it has not. And the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette we've just tested proves that while the standard Vette might sit in the shadow cast by its more publicity-friendly brethren, it has received something more valuable than media attention: performance. And considering that Chevy sells roughly one Corvette for every 10 Accords that Honda sells (and 10 times the number of S-Types that Jaguar sells), we're talking about a pretty impressive automobile. Small Block, No Extra Charge And there would be no Corvette without the small-block V8. True, there have been moments of great embarrassment in the long history of the Corvette and its pushrod V8. There was the disgraceful 1970s small-block that wheezed out a total of 165 horsepower. And all by itself, the 1982 Corvette V8 represents some kind of low. This...
