(from General Motors Press Release) 2009 Corvette lineup includes the Corvette coupe and Corvette convertible, each powered by the 430-horsepower (321 kW) LS3 V-8, and the incomparable Corvette Z06. Equipped with the 505-horsepower (377 kW) LS7 engine and built on a lightweight chassis, the Z06 is a street-going descendent of the championship-winning Corvette racing program. The Corvette convertible now features a power-operated soft top with the 2LT package; an easy-to-operate manual top is standard on the new 1LT convertible. Judging from the big grins and thumbs up the engineers gave our photographers, they were very happy to see them. Not that we are complaining, it’s not everyday you get to see a glimpse of the upcoming “ Chevrolet ” Matiz development car. Riding under various panelling, the new Matiz is currently undergoing some early testing in France. Code-named M300, a new, ultra small car platform will also underpin the next generation Chevrolet Beat and Spark. This new platform actually has more names than we can keep track of. General Motors has yesterday finally released the first official images of its all-new Chevrolet Cruze , which will make its first public appearance at the Paris Motor Show. The four-door compact family car is set to appear in showrooms across all continents by early 2009 as one of Chevrolet ’s key models. Its boldly styled sweeping roofline, shallow rear-pillars and wrap around headlights compliment the restrained use of exterior trim giving it a clean, unfussy appearance. “Our goal with the design of the Cruze was to be bold, not evolutionary,” said chief designer Taewan Kim. “We wanted to take a big step forward, making a strong design statement for Chevrolet products around the world.” Inside, the car features a twin-cockpit design, with the centre console ergonomically divided for both driver and passenger alike - a styling cue taken from various iconic Chevrolet performance cars. The mid-size Chevrolet Malibu sedan has been completely redesigned for 2008. New proportions and very handsome, attractive styling inside and out give the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu a more upscale appearance, while a newly available 252-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 and six-speed automatic--optional on the top LTZ model--brings newfound refinement. The more popular engine choice for the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu lineup is the economical 169-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which is rated at a frugal 22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and comes only with a smooth-shifting four-speed automatic transmission. Performance is good enough with the four-cylinder, but if you plan to haul full loads or take on mountain passes, you may be wishing for the V-6, which is very responsive and much more refined than the V-6 in the previous Malibu. (from General Motors Press Release) Chevy Cobalt Continues Chevy's Winning Tradition in Pro Stock Chevrolet 's ongoing American Revolution came to NHRA Pro Stock with the introduction of the Chevy Cobalt at Bristol Dragway on April 29, 2005. It didn't take long for the new Chevy to earn a place in the NHRA record book. On June 18, 2005, Kurt Johnson qualified his ACDelco Cobalt in the No. 1 spot at the K&N Filters Super Nationals in Englishtown, N.J. One week later, Johnson put his Cobalt in the winner's circle at the Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals in Madison, Ill. In 2007, Chevy Cobalt drivers combined for seven victories in 12 final-round appearances, with Dave Connolly finishing third in the final Pro Stock standings and Johnson finishing fifth. Chevrolet 's Volt plug-in hybrid won't be arriving in showrooms for at least another two years, but a careful eye may spot one of the many development mules testing its hybrid powertrain on public roads. Our spies did just that, snapping some pictures of the Malibu-bodied test vehicle as GM engineers took it for a spin outside of the automaker's proving grounds. Although the vehicle's body is radically different from the slippery shape the production car will wear, we're told the mechanicals beneath the skin are all Volt-specific and stem not from the Malibu, but from the next-generation Delta small-car platform. That means we're expecting a small-displacement gasoline motor (possibly a three- or four-cylinder) underhood, partnered with electric drive motors. The new Chevrolet Camaro already has a place in the Australian market if GM ever decide to sell it locally, filling the void left by the Monaro’s departure. However unlike stillborn Monaro concepts of the past, Chevrolet has revealed a sneak peek of the new pre-production Camaro Convertible . Holden has previously tested the waters with a drop-top V8 Coupe in the form of the 2004 Holden Marilyn concept - basically a convertivle Monaro. (from Performance West Group) This vehicle has been equipped with a full chassis by Modern Muscle . They call a vehicle built this way a "Super Car." The chassis features Corvette C5 aluminum suspension at all four corners, including independent rear suspension and the C5 differential. Handling is on par with a C5 Corvette, which is light years ahead of a stock first generation Camaro. The top features a subtle chop, which is really a significant task on a convertible, since all of the top bows must be altered accordingly, and must still function for raising and lowering the top. Another interesting item on this is the electronic stack injection, which enables the classic Chevy big block to, quite literally, start with the push of a button. It starts easily on the first turn, and idles incredibly smoothly. After some news on General Motors’ plans for the Paris show, the revolution is that it wants to continue with the Chevrolet Volt : a compact hybrid that will guarantee at least 60km of autonomy, with only lithium ion batteries, in addition to the classic hybrid function of petrol, diesel or ethanol depending on the target market. The original concept car, seen in the following images, was presented at the 2007 Detroit show , and the hope is to see a modern and minimalist style, couragious but close to current taste in cars. 60,000 units of prodution are foreseen and Chevrolet is expecting to return big thanks to this model. The price, less than $30,000 , will contribute to this hope for success, especially as petrol prices continue to frighten the world’s markets. Corvette ZR1 chief engineer Tadge Juechter recently sat down to participate in a live chat on GMNext to answer questions about Chevy's new supercar, with topics ranging from fuel-economy to production numbers. GM hasn't run its fuel economy test yet, but in a previous release from the General, it expects the ZR1 to be the most fuel-efficient 600-hp vehicle on the market. Juechter did say that the ZR1, "will be somewhat less [fuel-efficient] than a Z06," which is currently rated at 15/24 by the EPA, "and we expect a small gas-guzzler tax [on the ZR1]." Production will be limited to 2,000 units each year for worldwide consumption and pricing will be revealed sometime this month. Juechter went on to say that ZR1 accessories wouldn't be made available for lesser Corvette models, so buyers won't be able to option up for carbon-ceramic brakes or Michelin tires on their Z06s.
