  • 2008 BMW X6 Review

In the past, BMW didn't exactly rush in to follow the trend toward larger, more family-friendly vehicles. Like a fashionable latecomer to a cocktail party, the German automaker launched the BMW X5 a few years into the SUV craze. But when the tide turned and the market clamored for scaled-down utility, BMW was ready with the nimble X3. And now that the crossover has found its way into the lineup of practically every marque in the auto industry, the German automaker steps up to bat with the X6 , a four-passenger "Sports Activity Coupe" that BMW hopes will entice customers looking for the superior handling of a sport sedan with the space and functionality of an SUV. And just to clear up any potential confusion: Yes, BMW is calling the X6 a coupe, but that's just pure marketing, as it really does have four doors. Underneath the crossover's controversial styling lies the capable, athletic handling BMW is known for. The all-wheel-drive X6 shares the same platform as the...
  • BMW X6 35D

It’s the car that’s created a new niche in the market: an opinion-splitting mix of coupé and SUV the likes of which we’ve never seen before. Or so BMW would like you to think. If BMW’s marketing men are to be believed, the X6 is in a class of its own – and when it comes to the styling, that’s certainly true. It resembles a pumped-up X5 complete with a dramatically sloping roofline, and so is hardly lacking in road presence. At the front, the X6 has a similar face to the X5. And the familiar feel continues inside, with the same dashboard layout. It’s logically arranged and flawlessly put together, and features superb materials. The driving position is perfect and space up front is generous, although the same cannot be said of the rear. Despite its size, the X6 is a strict four-seater – and passengers over six feet tall will struggle for headroom, due to that sloping roofline. Boot capacity is a healthy 570 litres with the seats in place and 1,450 litres folded flat. And although the area...
  • BMW X6 starts at $53,275

MW's newest small ute, the X6 "sport activity coupe" will start at $53,275 when it arrives in showrooms this summer. That starting price is for the 3.0 liter six-cylinder model, called the xDrive 35i. It makes 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. The twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 model, called the xDrive 50i, pumps out 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. It starts at $63,775 . The twin-turbo engine is new for the X6 . The prices include destination charges. Both models have six-speed automatic transmissions. Although BMW has dubbed the X6 a coupe, it has four doors and a hatch in the back. It has contoured side panels, a wide stance and a sloping C-pillar, giving it a coupelike silhouette. The X6 is fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels and steering-wheel paddle shifters. The production version was unveiled at the Detroit auto show in January. BMW expects the United States to be the largest market for the vehicle. The automaker also showed a hybrid version of the X6, which cuts fuel consumption...
  • BMW X6 pricing

For some, the new BMW X6 sports activity coupe may be the car you've been waiting for. For others, the vehicle is a curiosity for embodying traits of both a crossover and sports sedan. It's got the ride height of a soft roader, but the sleek design and headroom-sacrificing profile of a performance vehicle. If this kind of cognitive dissonance appeals to you, a BMW X6 can be yours starting from $52,500 for the xDrive 35i model powered by the brand's superlative twin-turbo inline six-cylinder. That's not chump change, but is certainly less than the X6 xDrive 50i that starts at $63,000 . For the extra ten grand or so, the X6 xDrive 50i is fitted with BMW's brand new twin-turbo 4.4L V8 that produces 400 hp and 450 pound feet of torque. BMW Blog also reveals a ton of optional equipment that's available for the X6, as well. These two MSRPs are just a starting point from which the cost of your X6 could take off like a rocket... that's made of money... and aimed at BMW...
  • Can you figure out the point in the new BMW X6

You are part of history. You are witnessing a world first. You are looking at the universe's only Sports Activity Coupe, the BMW X6 .There could, of course, be a very good reason why no one has previously come up with a Sports Activity Coupe (or SAC, if you prefer). But before we pass judgment, let's take a quick look over the X6 . Based on the X5 platform but adding a fastback, four-door body, the X6 combines the sporting presence of a coupe with the height and presence of an SUV, says BMW .It'll certainly be quick: the X6 comes with the choice of two petrol or two diesel engines, with the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 topping the line-up. It'll be called the xDrive50i, and develop 407bhp along with a hefty 442lb ft of torque. That'll propel the X6 to 60mph in a scary 5.4 seconds and on to an electronically limited 155mph. As you'd expect, the xDrive50i isn't the most frugal - BMW is quoting combined economy of just 22.6mph and CO2 emissions of 299g/km. Ouch. All X6s...
