  • Spy Shots: Is this the next Porsche Cayenne?

Filed under: Spy Photos , SUVs , Porsche Porsche's Cayenne is starting to show its age. With the arrival of the Panamera, it's no longer the most controversial looking vehicle in the company's product portfolio, though its road-scorching edge remains undiminished in turbo form. A new Cayenne is coming in gas, diesel , and hybrid flavors , and a fresh spy shot has surfaced showing what may well be the reshaped keister of the next model. It's got a bit of Volkswagen in it, maybe, but check those wheels and the way the lower valance is a diffusery thing - very Porsche-esque. If it is the Cayenne, this next generation might actually look okay while it continues to defy physics. Before we get too vitriolic, the Cayenne's volume has helped make 911s and Caymans possible - and for that, we say thank you. • Land Rover, Jaguar get Chinese order for 13,000 vehicles

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , SUVs , China , Jaguar , Land Rover , Tata China just gave the folks at Tata the best news they've probably had all year: an order for 13,000 Jaguars and Land Rovers. Sources say the breakdown is 10,000 Land Rovers and 3,000 Jaguars to be delivered over the next three years. The value of the deal for Tata: £600 million. That's almost a quarter of the price Tata paid to buy the two brands from Ford last year and represents nearly 20% of JLR's tally of 251,650 global sales in 2008. It hasn't been revealed who all the cars are for, but the sale was concluded with a Chinese trade delegation visiting the UK. It's a little late, but we're sure Tata is wishing everyone a happy Chinese New Year. • 2010 Kia Sorento teased ahead of Seoul Motor Show

Filed under: Crossovers/CUVs , Kia , Misc. Auto Shows There isn't a ton of new information since we first spoke about it last July , but Kia has released the first "official" image of the upcoming 2010 Kia Sorento. As reported earlier, the SUV's body-on-frame platform has been dumped in favor of a unibody platform. This will improve the ride at the expense of towing capacity and off-road ruggedness, but should pay dividends in terms of ride, handling and fuel economy. Expect the crossover to arrive with Kia's next-generation six-cylinder engines, and an efficient 2.2-liter 4-cylinder diesel powerplant for Europe pumping out an expected 200 hp with class-leading fuel economy. The 2010 Kia Sorento will debut at the Seoul Motor Show in April. • World's longest fingernails clipped in SUV accident

Filed under: Etc. , Celebrities , Humor Seatbelts save lives... and prevent broken fingernails, too. An apparently unbelted Lee Redmond was ejected from her SUV during an accident earlier this week. While the noteworthy Utah resident somehow survived the crash, her record-setting fingernails didn't fare as well. The Guinness Book of World Records-certified growths (yeah, they are more than a bit grotesque) were all broken, apparently leaving Redmond rather stumped. As she recovers in the hospital from her injuries it would be wise to ponder the case of Shridhar Chillal. The previous record fingernail holder from India cut his own nails off in search of a more normal life several years ago. However, he was so emotionally distressed afterward that he had them glued back on. Apparently, when it comes to fingernails, there's nothing that a bit of super glue can't fix! • Geneva Preview: Hyundai HED-6 to presage future Hyundai crossovers

Filed under: Concept Cars , Geneva Motor Show , Crossovers/CUVs , Hyundai , Rendered Speculation Click above for a high-res image of the Hyundai HED-6 official rendering Hyundai's first post-Joel Piaskowsk i concept will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month. And while the HED-6 compact crossover concept was likely fully realized before the designer bolted for Mercedes-Benz , the HED-6 was actually penned in the company's European Design headquarters in Rüsselsheim, Germany. In any case, the HED-6 (you remember last year's HED-5 concept from Geneva, don't you?) is expected to preview future compact crossover designs for the Korean automaker, and it features pulled-back headlamps bookending a hexagonal grille, a "three-dimensional" sculpted backlight made from Lexan, LED daytime running lamps, and a surprisingly modest set of 21-inch alloy wheels (modest for a showcar, at any rate). Hyundai promises to reveal more details at next month's show...
  • Spy Shots: Mazda CX-7 nip/tuck spotted

Filed under: Spy Photos , Crossovers/CUVs , Mazda Please To our eyes, Mazda's CX-7 crossover still manages to look fresh despite having been on the market since mid-2006. While it has aged gracefully, the Japanese automaker is readying a facelift for 2010, and some early mules have just been caught by spy shooters roaming in wintery Michigan. While the prototypes have been quite heavily disguised, it is still possible to see that beneath their anti-spy cloaks, changes are taking shape. Significantly upsized air intakes have taken up residence up front, and tape around the rear lenses could indicate that the taillamp clusters may be altered as well. Click on the link below for the full monty. [Source: EVO ] Spy Shots: Mazda CX-7 nip/tuck spotted originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 05 Feb 2009 15:57:00 EST. • When foul weather falls, dealership loans SUVs to police

Filed under: SUVs , Crossovers/CUVs , GMC , Pontiac Anyone that's ever driven a Ford Crown Victoria in four inches of snow will tell you that the generations-old police interceptor doesn't exactly grip when sitting atop the white stuff. That can leave police just as stranded as the motorists they're out to need help. Coast Pontiac GMC in Portsmouth, New Hampshire provides the solution to the local fuzz's problem by loaning out SUVs during big storms. The generous dealer has been providing this public service for over 18 years, and we're not talking used junkers with 4WD. Everything from an AWD Buick Enclave to a Cadillac Escalade have been loaned during snow storms. The officer driving the loaded 'Sclade reportedly didn't want to give the plush ride back. We get that feeling all the time. What does Coast Pontiac GMC get for its generosity? A public relations victory for sure, but every storm also works as a rolling advertisement for Coast Pontiac GMC's SUVs...
  • Land Rover celebrates 500,000 sales in U.S.

Filed under: SUVs , Etc. , Land Rover Land Rover first clambered onto our shores in March, 1987. It took almost ten-and-a-half years to sell the first 100,000 vehicles in the U.S., but it took only five more to move the next 150,000. And now with an expanded lineup and the Range Rover still stalking the countryside as the king of the luxury SUV pride, Land Rover North America has taken just two-and-a-half years to sell another 100,000 units. When a Range Rover Sport left the lot in Cerritos, California this month, that totaled 500,000 Land Rovers bought and paid for. And so to you Land Rover, on your 60th birthday, a tip of the hat and half a million kudos. Press release after the jump .
